sad news was just released about the star player of this year's National Championship team Ashlin Watkins was arrested and charged with first-degree assault battery and kidnapping following an incident Saturday on the school's campus as we all know Don Staley is a super strict coach and has kicked a player off of her team for much less even though Watkins was one of the key pieces of her team South Carolina will likely have to at least suspend their star player for an entire season citing a warant issued by University of South Carolina Police the local news in Columbia reported that the incident occurred at a student housing center Watkins per the warrant obtained by the local news allegedly assaulted the individual by forcefully grabbing her face pulling her by her arms and pushing her Watkins also allegedly picked up the individual and carried her against her will then ultimately grabbed the victim's head and forced her to walk down the hall thus controlling her movement while preventing her from leaving the the individual allegedly escaped and pulled a fire alarm the local news reported and was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries Richland County records show that Watkins was released on a $30,000 personal recognizance Bond and has a court appearance scheduled for the end of October it is really sad to see a really young player make such a poor decision hopefully she is able to come out of this as a better person that doesn't use their power to allegedly harm others in a statement to the media a South Carolina program spokesperson said we are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information Watkins a junior forward from South Carolina was a key reserve on the Gamecock National Championship Squad this past season she was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2022 and the leading scorer for the team last season let me know what you think in the comments section below what do you think da Staley will do about this situation how do you think this could impact the team's upcoming season
