something really motivates them and I think they know that we've had moments we've played well we've had halves we've had stretches of games but really looking for the full 40 minutes defensively the effort and execution we're looking for offensively attacking the paint and sharing the basketball um we know that on a given night someone may have the hot hand but we're looking for one of those nights where everybody's at their best on both sides of the basketball and that's something we're striving for on a daily basis with each practice with each film session hopefully they'll show up for us today we saw mullum hit a a big shot late in still water and he certainly has the capability to do that he also has the ability to kind of go off how do you try to limit him yeah you got to make sure that you keep him in check early you don't give them things in transition your rotation got to be quick no no good looks make sure you keep him out of the pain as well he's somebody that just an aggressive offensive player he can really score the basketball and playing with a lot of confidence so guys like that you never want to let them get going coach your consistency that you've gotten from Curtis Jones 10 consecutive double figure games now how much of a difference has that made for your team and you didn't have that the first time you faced Oklahoma yeah huge difference maker coming into this one at 19 and8 overall looking for their 20th wi of the season and the Sooners are 7- seven in the Big 12 Conference which puts them squarely in the middle of the pack they were picked 12 in the preseason poll let's take a look at the individual matchup there well you look at the guy that's really been hot for them Javen McCollum just to give you an idea how much confidence he has he misses his first seven threes in bedum game in still water on Saturday makes one late in the second half and then makes an unbelievable step back three to win the game so they have confidence in him and I think that match up you know with keesan Gilbert or Tam and lipy I mean I think they Iowa State's going to switch a lot of things but the two guards usan and and and McCollum versus lipy and Kean Gilbert one thing that Iowa state has an advantage I think Iowa state is physically stronger McCollum you know 62 6-1 160 lbs but but he but I tell you what he's he's very efficient in what he can do but I think you can get him uncomfortable I've seen some games where he was it was a a big game for him the other day to come back cuz he' kind of been struggling a little bit lately that's going to be a big matchup and and how they defend Iowa State as well and we talked about the importance of the back door Cuts uh for Iowa State it's also a big thing uh for the Sooners and then jayen Mo the Georgia Tech transfer 67 220 plus pounds super athlete and he's playing really well right now too and that match up with Trey King that is a big match up and then there's kind of a mismatch if you will an outside guy in mle m chilov and egga oay o 65 they list him at 215 once again uh he's certainly every bit of that 215 he is really put together course his brother a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens a very physical player he was shooting lights out in non-conference from three not high volume and he's kind of reverted to the mean there and he's he's not shot the ball particularly well from the perimeter but he had six consecutive games of single digit scoring heading into the game of Still Water he was able to get to the basket and I think for the big match up there will be how well Milan can do to keep him uh keep o from getting to the basket he's going to want to drive the ball so take his right hand away first and foremost but man uh that's a tough match up on the other hand can Iowa State find a way to get Milan going he has struggled a little bit uh to say the least from a scoring standpoint however his defense has has really so if you have a guy at a score and he he's not making shots you can't play him sometimes but in me's case he's become a good Defender not a great defender but a good Defender so you don't have to worry about that and you just hope cuz you have so much confidence in mean that he's going to start making shots that you can continue to play him and that's why he's playing the minutes that he is leads Iowa State in minutes in conference play and and then how about the X Factor coming off the bench raldo sorz 65 transfer from Oregon another guy super athlete he can shoot the three you got to keep him off the boards and IA State's got a guy coming off the bench and Kurt Jones it was 10 straight games double figure scoring and man he has been really good in that stretch uh shooting around 40% from three
