ladies and gentlemen uh directors actors guests and uh fellow garment workers um I wanted to just say a word about the extraordinary uh purpose and efforts that this organization of the American cinematic I could say that better than that American cinematic tonight you're going to add to that list a man that has dedicated himself to doing everything that Shakespeare indicated that we should do and um that's John Travolta hi John uh uh John I think merits this honor that he's getting this this evening he's made me scream with laughter and as he has all of us I don't think he's be he's even begun to touch his talent uh we saw him early on and just dancing stuff and um and then uh he took a an upper cut and a Biff in the ribs and uh and some heavy shots and he went down but people that have really important talents are not going to be kept down and he had a chance to do a film called Pulp Fiction in which gave him a new start and now he's going to be with us till the end of time and uh I I wish he'd do a film where he would sing cuz he he's dance but I don't think he's ever sung but I heard him the other night at his house uh he had a recording of himself and Carly Simon singing one of the old standards and it was really wonderful anyway I'm I'm tickled to be here this evening and to have the opportunity to say something real most of the time you're asked to say something and you you think oh God what am I going to say I can't really think of anything to say and it's just all baloney but I care about John I'm I'm a I'm very deeply attached to John his talent and uh uh I want to welcome you here and so let's let let's lift our glasses here tonight whatever you're drinking even if it's just perer let's lift the glass and be glad that John tonight is going to join the RoR of these Extraordinary People here's do you John I hope to see you soon that c good night
