Roosters lose Manu and Tigers hit by sin bins (The Daily Telegraph NRL Podcast)

Roosters lose Manu roosters G they've been outstanding the past month or so but the big news out of that game is probably joery Manu couple of fractured bones in his hand needs surgery he'll be out for four to five weeks huge blow for the uh for the roosters Joey yeah huge huge blow he's obviously probably their best player um isn't he so they're absolutely flying at the moment though but over the last couple of years don't you reckon they've had so many injuries um and then have just been able to cover them they just have had such a bad run um but yeah how long's he out for 4 weeks or four to 5 weeks to say surgery four to 5 weeks so it is one area that that they are reasonably well Billy Smith out as well I suppose and Joey Joe still got think a week to go and sup so I was going to say they're reasonably deep there but they've actually got some injuries yeah Michael Jennings as well as yeah he's out too and Pa is suspended as well yes yep so concern for you Tyson not really Will the Roosters miss Manu I think that the the r is they stting to click like I think we we saw similar in 2018 2019 when they won the comps um so yeah like I'm not too concerned because I think around the park they've got places to cover I think if they end up having to put Michael Jennings in there uh they can still get the job done or or whoever they really call up with the roosters it's almost like that penth mentality next next man in at the moment they're they're on so much of a high I think it'll take more than Joy Manu getting injured to really probably a bad time to make a penth reference the way they play but we'll get to them later goodness what's their draw like over the next couple yeah the way they're playing I don't think it really matters yeah I don't think so either I mean Brandon's Smith's been back last couple of weeks I I think he's been outstanding for Brandon Smith Victor rley at second row Bradley yeah which is interesting I I always thought he was really good in the 1 but he's been great on the edge hasn't he I think just Robinson's finding a way to fit kind of their best 13 on the field and that's I think with Conor Watson on there cuz Connor's been Roosters schedule playing out of his skin as well yeah so they have the dragons and then aai so that's during origin and then Melbourne and then Manley that's a big game that Melbourne game yeah robbo's record against um Craig bellam is horrific I think he's he's lost a heap in a row so that would be that would be origin players backing up so that's on the Saturday yeah so they might rest a few blocks both those teams in that game but yeah um the way they're play they' just been ramping at times you know they um they just got so much strike haven't they particularly their outside backs but the other guy Angus kon's been killing it he's close to doing a new two-year deal there they expect that to be done in the next 24 to 48 hours um obviously that's huge for them but it means probably cly t t leaves he played did he play C yesterday yeah was in the S yeah yeah so I mean I don't know do we is there any concern that that might be a bit of a disruption for them uh uh I Will the Roosters be disrupted don't know not I don't think so I mean you just like I said before everyone's just striking at the right time this is this is where kind of premierships are won and losses in this middle part of the Season especially around origin so I can't really see any disruption to The Roosters at the moment I'm I'm a tiger supporter so I'm memor memorized by what I we'll get to them soon don't worry a PTSD yeah I don't think so either I think yeah I was I had my doubts about the roosters at the start of this year I think maybe that it was fair too um just considering you know last year and they still kind of have the same roster they added in domy obviously but um wow they've just really clicked together this year um even though they they've obviously had some they've been hit pretty hard with injuries in that backline yeah um they're the type of team that you just trust to scrape through it's interesting with that backline cuz the Wild Card all this I suppose is is Mark and I've got to get his name right I've phonetically done it here so let's look at it Will the Roosters get an exemption from the NRL noazi the rugby young wab kid is um The Roost will sign it for next year um they're trying to get in he's going to the olyp Olympics We Believe will go to the Olympics with the the sevens team the roost are trying to get an exemption for him to sign for them and then after the Olympics are over yeah come back and play for them now normally this wouldn't be allowed right because it's a June 30 cut off um you've got to be um signed and registered before June 30 I think that obviously today's July 1 um as I said they're trying to get an exemption for him to come back and play do we have an issue with that do you have a concern that they make an exception for yeah they already made exception for the roosters with Jo Su Ali to play before he was 18 now you got potentially Mark no no need toi coming back and helping in them in the run of the finals any concerns I don't think it's fair I think that's a rule for a reason Fair yeah I I I agree with P I don't I don't think I don't think they need him like so so what we're just bringing someone in to Who will take Manus place say we've got him for this year like and realistically well I think the idea is get him in so you can up upscale him to so he's he's ready next for the start of next year there's no rule saying he can't he can't start training with them there's there's no rule against that because clubs bring in people to train with them all the time so who who does Mark take out um of that rooster side at the moment I can't really see anyone when Joey comes back uh Sali comes back he'll be in there when Manu comes back he'll be in there uh tupo and Dom young aren't going anywhere you're not moving him to fullback so where are you using him you just you're just bringing him in to be an extra number I think for the roosters there's no point going through the headache of trying to get him over as well what are your thoughts um I look I'm I'm a bit with you the only issue is um if they get an injury potentially comes into contention if you give him the exemption so he's allowed to play potentially then you know I think it probably creates a little bit of an unfair that's what I think if he's going to be eligible to play yeah then I think that that's not really fair yeah if they went on a horrid injury run that's it's it's a different story right now they've lost all their outside backs you can kind of be like well maybe they could use use him but there's no need for him currently so in three months time when their team's probably going to be more healthy than it is right now there's going to be no need for him then either yeah well let's talk about your Tigers I've been pretty good the last few weeks this was a bit of a slap in the face we were you obviously there couple 10 BS during the game yeah I hate was this was this a huge step back or was this cuz they had the teams they beaten they hadn't I think it was the Titans and the Raiders so two two teams who hadn't exactly been playing well and then the next three weeks they were they've got tough games they got Melbourne after this I think they canala so this is a real test the next three weeks did you was this worse than you'd hoped it to be or what you think every year that I see that roosters game get brought up I'm always kind of scared because I don't know what it is but no matter how good we're doing at a time how poorly roosters are doing vice versa they always just manag to put a score on us um I'm not one to believe in those kind of myths or anything but it just does happen uh but look I thought after that first half um their completions were quite High the Tigers it just like the RIS were just better I think they um then the second half comes along and and you bring in at one point there's 11 on the field and silly penalties I think they've got 11 12 Innings now for the year like it just it just adds up and it compiles um it it's must be frustr is that frustrating as a fan yeah I think yesterday yesterday yesterday's ones were um I mean aby's was a bit of a spear tackle like I can kind of see I didn't really agree issue with either of them or what yeah I thought appy appy was probably a Sim bidding just like from what we've seen consistent consistency um but then yeah the Adam Dy want gets hit by his own Adam Dykes player and just swung around he doesn't actually drop on the back of the hip I just think yeah they I like the hip drop rule but they just got to be a bit more polish on it because like what what is a hip drop like because he's been hit swung around and then like basically he hasn't tried to drop back he he's just been swung around the back of it and and ended up falling back which happens in footy like you know I think if we're trying to prevent all injuries like you're going to get a head knock sometimes just by having a good tackle and ramming someone into the floor you can't stop every hip drop you can't stop every head knock like we just there needs to be at what cost though Pam like you telling me if if you know Stefano Stefano is coming up to tackle someone puts a good uh midot on him drives him into the floor and they get whiplashed and hit their head are we going to start penalizing him for that are we going to start penalizing uh you know Dominic young has great leg drive and that's why people are getting dragged around the back if they're not intentionally dropping their hip on someone like he he Consistency swung around there not to try and drop him drop himself down I don't feel I just feel there has to be you know a bit more polish on it bit more a bit more black and white than than what there is see I have an issue with the you you said I think you used the word consistency before you're never going to get consistency I hate that word it's impossible you got different people in the Box different people in the bunker different people at different views I I look at that Adam Dewey tackle and I go well you know what I don't I don't necessarily have a problem like if you're I think that's a hipop like that's a hip drop to me cuz his legs are out because where his laser as well he he hasn't he hasn't tried to drop down on the back of him though he has stopped himself from falling back either yeah I don't know whether you s or not then yeah it's just that's that's the issue for me because I think the issue at the moment is the sin biddings are so like as I said you're never going to have consistency but wild incist you you can narrow the Gap narrow level of inconsistency but I think at the moment it's so wildly inconsistent you know I see um some hip drops and I go well how's that guy not in the bin then you see one potentially like that where you go well that's a bit lineb and he goes to the bin that's the issue for me I don't I I hate people talking about consistency it drives me nuts cuz you'll never get it man because you and I disagree right and and it's just like having two different officials in the in the bank never never going to necessarily agree referees on the field they're never they're never going to be on the same page but you need to reduce you need to have it at least minimal inconsistency at the moment it feels like to me the inconsistency is just huge across game so that's why I think they got to work out they got to try and you know but I mean obviously it's been an issue all weekend the Sim Innings and six again
