when the Toronto Blue Jays play here at the Rogers Center it's always a bit of a reunion tour when you look at the other team there's usually a former Toronto Blue Jay on it most recently Santiago espanol with his new team the Cincinnati Reds and former Blue Jays catcher Luke mey spend in three years here you know there was definitely like a feeling when you got into the Rogers Center every day as a home player and even as a visiting player before I before I came over to Toronto there goes Gregorius here's the throw for meas on the money and he guns him down the 33 y- old back stop was with the Jays from 2017 to 2019 and the Kentucky native is living out a dream right now playing for the Cincinnati Reds a team he grew up watching but on Tuesday night he had to step outside his comfort zone and do something he's only had to do a handful of times the Reds were down 10 to two and the catcher had to go to the mound and Pitch Luke Bailey with two perfect how did your mentality switch when you go to do that do you find try to find join it or is it just a moment you're like I just want to get this over with I I think you have to try and find some joy in it I think you'll drive yourself crazy if you don't um you know I got a lot of the guys give me a hard time because I walk around like I've been pitching for 20 years and I always tell them like you know that's that's literally all I try and do I just pretend like I've got six or seven Sai Youngs and and I just try and create that mound presence it's fun you know you just uh and also you get to see the game from a different side of the field um which is always interesting mey recorded six outs on Tuesday against the Jays becoming the first position player of the year to pitch multiple perfect innings in one game he made his pitching debut as a catcher with the Jays back in 2019 oh that was my first one and I was able to get my first uh career strike out and then I came here and I remember uh for whatever reason sticks out the Raptors were uh getting ready to win the NBA Finals that year right around the same time and uh you know we were getting our brains beat in but I was able to get two strikeouts that inning uh off of guys that I ended up being teammates with which is which is awesome to have that on them but uh you know just one of those moments it's never fun to to lose like that but uh anytime you can shed a little brevity on an otherwise tough situation I'm happy to do it and that reunion tour will continue the Jays start a new series against the Anaheim Angels on Thursday welcoming back former Jay's outfielder Kevin poor
