[Music] at a Saskatoon High School a show of support for an injured classmate a 14-year-old girl is now facing charges for attempted murder aggravated assault and arson after an alleged attack yesterday police say the girl seriously injured another classmate at Evan Hardy Collegiate by lighting her on fire the victim a 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being treated for burns at the scene a student student who witnessed the assault and her mother spoke out about the assault today and they say seeing such a violent incident at the school has left them shaken when her hair came went on fire then her body started to light on fire and she started to scream and I'm still shaking a little yeah it was just like unreal right um we're still like I'm not sure how we're going to cope with it but it's going to take a lot of time a teacher at the school was also injured in the incident and treated at the hospital after helping to extinguish the fire the Saskatchewan teachers Federation says it's making sure staff have the support they need as they process the violent incident teachers care a lot about their students and and they're going to jump in and and do everything they can to try and keep them safe ultimately we should all be coming to schools in safe environments and these incidents should be prevented the victim's family members were visibly emotional some in tears as the accused appeared in sasude Provincial Court this morning the 14-year-old girl facing charges wept through her brief Court proceeding and was remanded into custody before her next hearing on September 11th at the high school classes remained cancelled on Friday the school's principal announced that classes will remain cancelled until Tuesday giving students and staff time to come to terms with the act of violence Alexander silver CBC News Saskatoon
