[Music] Perry Iowa is a small town about 8,000 uh people uh it's a workingclass community there's a lot of good things here that just make it feel like you belong at the end of the day it's just small town IO with very accepting people that get along well with each other good there are quite a few Cyclones fans in in the community Parry to Aims about 40 minutes so it it's close we we like to think it a cyclone country too parents and and kids are excited to be able to have Rocco here as well as some of the other Iowa State Cyclones from a football perspective it's it's going to do wonders just to get some excitement from the community I think is is going to be tremendous for the program appreciate you guys coming out um those of you that do not know my name is Roco Beck I play quarterback at Iowa State I'm excited about today I'm excited about you guys being here all these guys are going to be with you guys today ask some questions get to know them cuz I know they want to know you guys I don't think I'd be able to run this Camp by myself so I reach out to the we will Collective and they were all on board to help me out we're not directly tied to the university but we support Iowa State student athletes through nil opportunities and one of the main things we do is we actually partner with local nonprofits so we use their n for good and Rocco was the unique case is this was all his idea he said I want to do a free football camp and I want to cover all the expenses when I first figured out that I wanted to give back I couldn't find a better spot than Perry High School just knowing what these kids are going through what these families are going through really hit home breaking news right now a huge law enforcement presence is surrounding Perry High School this is an active shooter situation and that's as far as we know right now grade student was killed four other students were hurt so was the high school principal Dan marberger 10 days after a shooter open fire the school's principal has died many say he gave the ultimate [Music] sacrifice January 4th we lost a sixth grade student and we lost our high school principle two huge losses there's no other way to phrase it it was a tragedy it's definitely a trauma that people are still healing from this is a very resilient Community we've had tragedy unfortunately but I think we did a tremendous job of rallying [Music] together everyone heals at their own pace and I know this Camp is a great thing for our youth to just go back to normal and have something really great happen for them we've gone through a lot these past few months so having these Iowa State athletes coming out and showing love showing support towards us is great even I appreciate that young kids look up to these players and I think kids need to know that you know bad things happen but at the end you know we have people that care and we have people that are concerned about our community [Music] oh fade away you Patrick Mahomes no athletes here in the state of Iowa they are our celebrities you know they make a bigger impact than just about anybody in the state rock say shoot I think it's very exciting to see the Iowa State players putting their time and effort towards the the community push the kids and and let them realize hey it's a safe place there we go you can run you can run when I first got here a kid came up to me and he said we wear this wristband for me um and it says Perry strong that quote it means a lot to me um just because of what they've gone through I wear these all the time um I'll wear this every day in games so I'm excited that I was able to be here today for these kids because I know it meant a lot for them hard work on three 1 2 I hope the kids will appreciate truly how lucky they are to get this experience um and I wanted to support you guys get the donation uh to help you guys move forward the biggest thing for me is giving back and supporting this community and making sure that they know that I'm always here for them and I'm just glad I was able to come out here and run a camp like this and you know put a smile on these kids' faces
