Obi Ndefo ("Rak'nor") Dead at 51

welcome to the show um hello Nicole and Eevee hello um I've got some sad news feels weird smiling I know I'm trying yeah um I received word a couple of days ago and it was only one source and I wasn't sure uh but I can now confirm that um uh Obi and defo rakor in Stargate sg1 has uh has passed um I got word about this uh through a couple of friends and wasn't going to say anything until uh I knew for sure uh I've got a couple of sources here news for Los Angeles and the daily mail um they're referencing his time on Dawson's Creek a lot more uh then star won what was he in was he in Dawson Creek I love him I have I a whole F didn't he he played like uh it was like Katie's brother-in K characters brother-in-law B Wells yes yeah he was um from 1998 to 2002 he was a good a good egg he was a great character I really I was really fond of his character I was I was mad he didn't get more screen time because he deserved it they always kind of talked about him off screen being like Oh yeah he's working tonight so we're babysitting the kid stuff like that but um he was a good egg read the obit from Daily Mail yeah Dawson's Creek start Obie in defo has died at the age of 51 5 years after losing both of his legs in a horrific crash his sister has confirmed the cause of the actor's death is unknown but his sister and co-stars confirmed his passing in a heartfelt social media tribute heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he's finally at peace his sister n and Deo said Saturday on Facebook he's a graduate of Yale appeared in Dawson's Creek between 98 in 2002 where he played Katy Holmes's character's brother-in-law bod Wells additionally he starred as Rak no in sg1 between 200 and um 2005 I remember the news of uh him surviving his this horrific crash 5 years ago and just being like this is an amazing human being and watching the story of his recovery we emailed back and forth for a number of years to try and get on dial the gate and a we just couldn't we work yeah okay so it's it's one of those where it's like another one's story we're never going to have for uh for this the Stargate Series so I've you know I'm dealing with with that you know disappointment at the same time that you know that the Stargate Community itself has lost a great um actor so yeah well I mean meant much like his character you know he was a fighter in real life and he had a lot of adversaries to overcome and from what I can tell he did that with you know a lot of strength and a lot of Grace uh I think he said somewhere that he had forgiven the person that had hit him he was hit by a car and I can't even imagine how much it would take to do that yeah I remember when it first came up I was like like five years ago so sometime around like 2019 or something and I think I heard it I uh I saw the GoFundMe and I like just donated my measly pennies um because I was like you know every little helps as Tesco would say um shopping bad joke um and uh I I just remember the campaign was still like ongoing for a very long time because American medical bills are no joke no absolutely and he needed like lots of money to like you know progress and get better Prosthetics and improve the process for his and I don't I don't know where that ended up how he I think he did I think I saw it was either 100K or 200k and he was able to get better quality Prosthetics and also uh do his home up to um work for him better you know with ramps and railings and things like that yeah uh and I know that he was very active in the yoga Community I think he was a yoga teacher yeah and I think I saw somewhere it might have been on his Instagram I think he was in the running to win an award for yoga practice uh I don't know how recently it was um but yeah it's just yeah it is it's just heartbreaking I also worked as a writer and taught yoga to twice exceptional children gifted with special needs y uh went on to continue his acting writing work after his accident he co- uh created a show called juice bar and appearing in the show in CIS Los Angeles in 2001 at the time of his death he's been working on a series called dream big um yeah this is It's always frustrating you know watching you know someone triumph over something that's that's this enormous and then then hearing this new it's like okay what the hell happened you know what happened to this guy and really I sick I don't know what what it was I'm really hoping that it wasn't tragic well I mean it's tragic one way or the other but you're hoping it was you know you were hoping he was you hoping he was healthy yeah absolutely you're hoping he was H happy and he was just yeah well the fact that his sister said um you know he's now at peace I know that's kind of made me think at me ever since I read this because you know for all of us who loved him and who loved his character it's like okay that's that's none of our business but but it's chewing on you as someone who cared about him and his character um having said that uh boy is it Eerie that we're watching The Warrior today I was this is his second biggest episode I was shook it is it really is when I heard about this news I wasn't like like I didn't want to believe it I was like no no no no no this is one of those like you know calling out people gone yeah and and all of a sudden I think I saw um the actress who plays Dawson's mom uh putting on Instagram some videos together of him uh on set on Dawson's Creek and then Katie Holmes was like liking and sharing and I was like and I was like that's when that's when I realized that it was like legit and I was like oh yeah well I saw it as a as a rumor uh it was Saturday my time uh Saturday morning my time and I reached out that's that's I reached out to Dave and I said have you have you heard this I can't substantiate it with anything there was literally I think a post on Facebook and a post on Instagram but there was nothing official yeah and run with it until you can't no you can't and then um you know this morning there was there was so many you know so much outpouring of love for him um and I was hoping you know obviously that it wasn't true but yeah you know it's been basically confirmed now so one of a handful of satellite talent in sg1 who got a complete Arc and yes it was a very satisfying one to watch this guy torturing TK in season 4 and by season 9 being uh playing a substantial role in the rebuilding of the civilization yeah exactly exactly yeah he actually has quite a um he has a big impact at the end of this episode uh at the end of the warrior he has a a speech at the very end um in support of tilk I think it was always my my favorite of of the Jafar you know that obviously wasn't wasn't TK of the satellite um Act cast yeah for sure yeah because there lots of people who come in and out where you're like oh yeah you're okay you're okay you're fun you know and but then like raknar was always just the the goodest the goodest guy and also the way he came in and like appeared with the um with his forehead scar yes he was the only one who had something like that it's such a like like traumatic kind of you know thing to have a character have being like whoa that that's that's messed up it's like it's like a visual reminder of his his story and where he's come from and atast his father's Defiance and then his yeah tilk didn't even do that but it's because of tilk yeah Anthony said uh um uh I was upset when I saw this news today Dan Ben rest in peace Jacob's apparently getting married um so uh congratulations congratulations this is a bad time for you to come in and say that I hope you you have a good yeah absolutely is he getting married today no he says going to Indonesia to get married and travel so it's not going to be around for the next month so have a good time Jacob Jad Ted wrist in peace rakor um yeah feel safe in The Warriors yeah today so I liked Dan Ben I liked the character good actor Dawson's Creek was huge at the time I never saw it yeah I I watched seen either by 15 yeah was he not also in Star Trek David yes he was he was in an episode called uh blink of an eye or wink of an eye I can't remember which one was in I think it was wnk I think it was blink of an eye in Star Trek uh Voyager it was one of the time periods where this planet was uh revolving far faster than our than our time frame and he was in one of the older uh eras of this world so oh okay cool yeah he was he was really it was it was a good one mhm yeah he was a lord protector I think his name was so uh yeah he will be I before we before we start diving into the rest of the the episodes and all the stuff we're going to do um I do want to you know just say that like we're getting to the point now where we're losing Stargate actors um more as time goes on but what's really shocking to me is we're losing some of the younger ones right and I I hate it I'm like it's always more devastating like I I'm waiting for for the for the older ones to you know get older and lose them and it's going to it's really sad to lose them but at least like a life but those are anticipated and these are like what's going yeah I don't expect halfway through literally halfway through his life peace writer peace writer life is a lottery you know yeah you know what it's bull I'm sick of it I'm I can't do anything but I'm mad at it I'm I'm mad at life um because there are people who who don't really don't deserve this so like really no no no one deserves to die that young No 5 is nothing no my dad and stepdad have only just crossed the the 50 line a few years ago so they're just past that point and it's just like I can't imagine them feeling over so well given that uh given that he was such a such a staple in the in the yoga Community um I wanted to say namaste which basically means the Divine in me honors the Divine in you you're so cute oh God adorable I'm A F of lost so yeah I I maybe I'll like go do some yoga poses later on just like and think about him because you know what he always good and well he's going to be on all on all of our minds for a while so yeah um I wish all of his family and friends the best I I hope this time I don't know what the outcome was here or how this happened but I really hope that people who are struggling with mental health are getting help that they need um in the event that that's what it was I don't know but I think that it's important that we all look after ourselves yeah remind ourselves of that and look at yeah yeah he certainly you know had those issues at after his accident and overcame them in a magnificent way so yeah it's important to remember um that we all are tested you know in various ways throughout our lives and it's how we get back up not how we fall that that um shares our character to each other well said our our our thoughts go out to his uh to his friends and family for sure
