welcome to the scoop rer happy Thursday we have a great show ahead of uh Ryan Day named his stting quarterback will hard if you guys were on the scoop last night you got it first uh a lot of big updates is Tigra going to move into the starting right go right guard position again I caution everybody that if someone wins a starting job through the first couple of weeks when they have two weeks of G games versus akan in western Michigan and then they have a by week uh they are all very temporary so if guys don't perform uh there's going to be some shuffling especially with that biwe that bye is the time to make changes in the lineup so um if you're named the start out a camp cute but can you hold on to it until we get to the bye so it'll be interesting um excited for will Howard the offense is going crazy Chip Kelly is up inside of some of these coaches to uh get these guys to perform better and be better so I'm very excited about that I think it's going to be a huge difference for the entire program what chip Kell is bringing so we're going to get into all of that as always and we're going to take your questions if you guys enjoy this content please leave us a like click subscribe also click that little alert Bell shout out to my boys from Southern Ohio I met one of you guys today at lunch today it was absolutely fantastic so my guys that are down from Galis Chesapeake uh Jackson like the whole Southern Ohio Corridor appreciate you guys that are all Bucky skip fans we appreciate it all um again we like to provide coverage to the people that maybe they don't have a local news channel that covers Ohio State so if you're down in that little Corridor of Ohio list a lot of Huntington a lot of Marshall football um not as much Ohio State so we appreciate you guys to tune into that so thank you for that as always um again we are uh we're on the grind if you guys want to pay it forward uh We've uh got some very interesting news today I'm going to pass it along um as the show goes on uh from one of our uh pay Ford members who is someone who is in uh law enforcement um I'm going to put a mug shot on the screen of somebody uh who broke into one of the players houses uh so if you guys can identify him that would be huge but again this is part of the pay for program so we appreciate all of those that uh participate and again we take care of our law enforcement people if they ask us to do us do them a favor to say hey can you publicize this it's what we like to do so again we appreciate that as always uh anything you guys can do to help uh one of these players uh who was wronged uh be fixed it would be absolutely fantastic so uh again thank you guys for that it's a huge show CU you guys make one uh and again we appreciate all that you guys do again this is a uh this has been an incredible growth streak for Buckey scoop.com the ward Episode was a another uh feather in our cap for what we did projecting uh he's going to be the starter they named it today we heard about it um a couple days ago went with it and uh just another great day for bucky.com so with that being said I'm going to bring in our current starting quarterback uh our good friend Nevada bu Nevada uh Ryan Day met with the media he didn't waste any time naming will Howard the quarterback um does it concern you at all the fact that a a quarterback that was going to be benched at Kansas state is now the starting quarterback at Ohio State according to uh Kansas State rivals.com beat Riders no no I'm I'm not concerned learned that we have uh a quarterback that's according to summer is not Ohio State caliber can't throw can't play um no will Howard's gonna be great uh Ryan you talked about his journey today talked about how much you he's how he's lost weight how he's you know really got himself into great shape is really kind of grasping the offense and and how what a terrific fit he is for the Chip Kelly um what Chip Kelly wants to do offensively and so it's really been you know fun to watch will grow in just such a short period of time where he's you assumed a leadership position um I I've said you know a while ago I think he's gonna win the Heisman I think he's a great Heisman Futures bet for anybody who wants to go out there in terms of doing it Will's just a great kid really easy to root for um and you know I I think the more interesting story though is who's going to be the backup quarterback and you know I know right now they're talking about Devon Brown being the backup quarterback and and and and understand anything I say about the quarterbacks if I say something good about somebody else or something I'm not dissing the other guys I'm just talking about things in general we're just trying to have a a grownup conversation about this um I mean it seems to me that if even if Devin Brown starts out games one two three four as quarterback number two man I think eventually by the end of the year that's got to be Julian S Julian saan is kind of the the next guy he's kind of the chosen one and I think they've got to get him ready and so my expectation would be you know you obviously get a a good healthy dose of uh of will Howard here in these early games just to kind of get him acclimated get himself but when they pull him you're gonna see Devon and you're GNA see Julian because they want to get those guys ready and and I I I do think Julian is the future and I think he's got to be a guy that's got to play but um so we got the quarterback situation we got Right Guard uh you know they're you know Tigra is really making a push for the right guard position right now now Seth um is apparently really better at Center he you know I I from talking to helpy technician who's kind of our resident offensive line expert he's like look Seth could play right guard but he's really a center and so that leaves a a battle between you know Tigra and Carson hinsman and Luke Montgomery for that Right Guard spot uh tigra's got all the ability man he's got the size he's got the wingspan he's got the mass that they love there his challenge has been knowing the Playbook and not blowing assignments and you know lately he's been better if he can continue that on he's G to be a monster and he'll be really really good um if if he struggles with that a little bit then Carson's right there as well so I think that's going to be a battle it's going to rage on but it seems to me as if you Tiger's kind of nosed ahead at least in the eyes of the coaches um who really like they really want him to win that job because the guy's just got so many physical tools um I'm not saying he's Dewan Jones but he's a big big man and they'd love to have a big big man there at Right Guard I think that would uh uh that would please them with what they're trying to do offensively um defensively you know Arville ree was one of the MVPs of the scrimmage on Saturday you know a Mecca had caught three touchdown passes was kind of the offensive MVP arval ree a guy that you've heard his name here on the on our our podcast many times you know part of that crowded linebacker room with gay powers and sunny and CJ and Cody Simon um but Arville ree is coming on strong really playing well uh milin Graham played well offensively I mean just you're a lot of guys kind of coming up just just you know putting the depth of the uh the team on display and uh we had a great nugget on the board today on from the second wisan who kind of checked in and talked about how the at the scrimmage they had nice Trey Henderson run and as Trey Henderson's running that Chip Kelly just unloads on Brian Harline about the lack of effort from the wide receivers B saying hey you're at you you want our guys or running backs to block for you on pass protection well you got to block for them when they run and um you know music to my ears I know it's music your something you've been banging the drum about for quite some time but chip just let them have it loud and in charge and uh everybody heard it everybody's aware of it uh so if there's any question about whether or not chip Kell is going to demand uh outside blocking that was answered in uh in Spades and um he made it very clear and and and uh when when Chip Kelly yells and Chip Kelly gets there the the other coaches just say yes sir and and and get on to it so lots of great things happen around the Buckey exciting developments and uh like 15 16 days away from kicking it off so I I just can't wait yeah I I agree I think that it's huge what Chip Kelly did because again he's uh he does take prisoners when he's running the show on offense if something is subpar um there aren't sacred cows I I I don't think that guys like Keenan Bailey and even Cory didn't they didn't have the ability to call out a guy like Brian who's been recruiting at a high level but Chip Kelly doesn't care Chip's trying to get this get this team to the promised land to win a championship and you know again like like Brian's gu again as as great of a blocker as Brian's been in his career like when he played he was maybe you as tough of a receivers as we've ever had very skilled obviously he went like I think third or fourth round in into the league and had a nice career in the NFL but like you know a lot of what made him get into the NFL was the toughness the grit he wasn't um he was more fire than flash I he was a guy that was fiery competitive um you know Jim Trestle has talked at nauseum about when he was a freshman at Ohio State when they were red shirting him and they decided to play Bri robisky or Brian Hartland walked into Jim trussell's office and said I'm better than these receivers I should be playing you like you don't know what you're doing like whatever um and and Tres has told the story many times and when I have him on the next podcast I'll I'll talk to him but he's like you know do you think you're better than San Antonio Holmes and Ted gin and Anthony Gonzalez you know Brion you know For Better or Worse was so confident like yeah I'm better than all these guys and trust is like well okay we'll see but you're red Shing this you're not going to play whatever um and and Brian was a hard worker um I'm sure that he was bent that Robo played over him uh you know they're in the same class and Robo didn't red shirt and Brian did and I'm sure that he took that as a slight again Brian is a very motivated guy very wired up guy um so I don't you know and with the way he's recruited and the way that he's put all these guys in the first round and the way that he's a position coach at the draft every year I don't think anybody's ever called him out before so like when Chip Kelly is you know destroying him in front of uh the players the team whatever I think it's great cuz again I think there shouldn't be sacred cows I think under Ryan day there's been a lot of sacred Cals um but Chip Kelly's not playing with that I mean I mean Ryan you he'll fire guys OB he's fired a lot of coaches he's fired everybody that's been on the staff except for Mark Panton um but I think that like I don't think Brian has really gotten it because of how prolific the recruiting has been how many guys you put in the draft so you know I think that there are some guys that maybe don't want to do that but chip doesn't care and again I like chip because you know he has this Persona where he's like this little happy fat guy and everybody gets to drink a fruit smoothie and you know everybody uh you know gets up at 6:00 a.m. and they do The Lion King song and they got this cute offense and the Oregon Donald Duck logo and all that but he's not really like that like he's a pretty tough dude he's tough he's like Urban like I mean he's from that Urban Myer School of hey um morons if you guys want us to be good you have to block and again the last couple years have just been like it's been like an abortion watching these guys block because because they're not because when you watch film which we watch a lot of film on Bucky scoop we're the only the only we're the only podcast that that really studies film um what is on the film is either taught or it's allowed and so I know Brian hartl is not teaching these guys to not give any effort when it comes to blocking um but he's allowing it and again I'm not being critical Brian but you know and again he proved me wrong like let's watch the tape from last year and tell me um when some of these guys including Marvin because again I know Marvin is a sacred cow and you can't criticize him but I'm like you know show me if he's really going all out to to help these running backs get explosive gains CU I I didn't see it I saw a lot of times these receivers they turned it down um they don't want to get their nails dirty um and Chip you know who has been second in the nation in rushing in the last three years um he's not about that life he's like look if you you want your guys to play they got a block and again the 49ers go watch Brandon iuk and some of those guys Debo those guys block so mcaffrey of course leades the N or he leaves the NFL in rushing uh the the guy Mike McDaniel from the Miami Dolphins uh he makes those guys block you know Tyreek and all the receivers they have they have to block because all of a sudden when you block when you block the safeties again you know I'm I'm a big proponent block the safeties make the corners tackle because the corners can't tackle there isn't there are no corners in the NFL that can tackle and if they can't tackle the NFI they can't tackle in college or high school they're all terrible crappy tacklers go block the safeties block the safeties make the corners tackle um and you you'll lead the nation in rushing every year basically by that philosophy so um I think chip getting after Brian is great I think that the fact that um you know we've got explosive guys like Trey and quinon you know if you want to turn a 30 yard gain into a 70 yard gain go knock the safeties out go go wear them out go go hit them go cut them um even if they don't get to that level go go go put something on them and watch those guys uh kind of go to town Nevada um the Tigra deal is very interesting with um you know he was with Luke Montgomery is with Carson Hinman um again I I still the chalky pick the whole time has been Carson Tigra is a guy they're trying to push I don't think it's going to be done by week one week two into that bye I think that they're both going to play a decent amount um between I'm talking to Tigra and Carson Hinman um but what do you thoughts to that Right Guard JS I feel like the coaches sometimes like have this obsession with a guy that they want to get into the lineup and maybe they'll pick the best guy but you know Carson started 12 games last year the one game we didn't start we were atrocious on offense but I uh I don't know like like Tigra is he seems like he's like the apple of the coaching staff's eye at this point uh but what are your thoughts on that well you know I always talk to you about uh about betting narratives you know about like with with betting when you're betting like fights like in the Ultimate Fighting Championship you you kind of look at who's the promotion pushing who who are they getting behind you know who are they trying to you know you know promote who do they want who do they want to win you know the fight and I was same thing with position battles you know who are the coaches promoting who do they want to win I they clearly want tiger to win and you know maybe it I I Carson for whatever reason in helpy technici had put out a great NE today but he's talked about how Carson just seems like he's perpetually in the dog house which is weird for a kid who just does everything the right way was an iron Buckeye um keeps his mouth I mean to get iron Buckeye man you have to like not miss a workout get maximum effort do all and this guy this kid was was an iron Buck guy keeps his mouth shut does but he's always in Ryan day's dogghouse and um with Tigra I think they want to keep him I think they're worried about him transferring you know I think next year if you have Carson you C Seth's gone next year so Carson could step right in it start at Center T if he's starting at guard could be right there so I really think you know the narrative is they want tiger to win the job but Tiger's got got to do it he's got to do it he has been nothing of not inconsistent throughout his OS year career but he's starting to figure it out and he's been better and if he can and you know they can work you know Carson in in some backup into Right Guard some backup in Center keep him happy keep him around now all a sudden you're building your depth for next year and now all a sudden if you you know you know if and when you lose you know all your guys on the offensive line because potentially you're talking about losing four starters on the offensive line you're talking about Donnie and and Josh Simmons and Seth and Josh fire all being gone um now you at least they've got some of the depth pieces in there that you can kind of put in there guys that have got starting experience and get them back but no they they clearly want teer to win that job um I think for for Chip Kelly to have a guy that big you know that strong with that kind of mass at the point of attack um I think they really want it to happen now it's really up to T ers they're giving him the ball now it's up to him to kind of run with it and not drop the ball because if he does you know there's other guys that are going to be out you know right thir to ready to take that spot but I I think when we kick it off in the beginning you know um starting game one I think it's going to be Tigra it's GNA be his it's going to be his job to lose um but we'll have to watch the first three four games to see if he loses it or not because um I'm not 100% sold he's going to be able to get it done but I'm but I'm rooting hard for him to do it yeah I I think you know sometimes there's these like love fests and I've I've lived them as a player um where coaches love a guy and they think that he's the guy and I think Tigra is kind of that guy I think but also the Carson is the guy that started 12 games because if if Tigra was so good last year there's no reason they couldn't put Matt Jones at Center and said hey Tigra go play Right Guard I'll put Matt at Center and this is our best five because again they're you know they're obessed with getting the best five on the field and I think that um tiker has the ability but can you count on him when it really counts that's that's that's the question because again like I mean I could put Kirby the chahua out there on the field at Right Guard versus akan and we're probably still going to cover the spread of 50 points and we're still going to look great and people like wow Kirby the Chihuahua is a monster out there and that out of nowhere we didn't know the Kirby TR cuz like that's how good this offense is so but what happens versus Oregon versus uh Iowa versus Michigan like is he good enough to do it and again Tigra is a he's a minimalist he doesn't work very hard um I think that he's a guy that if he had the right people around him his his his ceiling is um I don't want to say Limitless but it's it's pretty it's pretty up there but again that's why you're called coach like if you're in year 3 and you still don't know your plays then that's troubling to me in my opinion especially when you have two full-time line coaches with Justin FR Tim dvno um you have Mike Selen like I don't again I'm not trying to bang on those guys I don't know what they do if you have a guy who's in year or three he still doesn't know his plays like the back of his hand so um there's a lot of misassignments with that kid um so you know Carson is the guy who's not as talented as Tigra but he shows up does the right thing he's Buck guy he's motivated um so it's a good problem for for Ryan to have and again as much as we don't like to talk about o line recruiting and and the like but I had a really really good source talk to me today about Josh Petty and again you know you have to understand a lot of these agents aren't very smart a lot of these parents aren't very smart but they leaked that he got 800 Grand over three years so 2.4 million and the comment I got is that that's more than that's almost more than the whole starting unit at Ohio State got combined because again you know Ohio state is very sharp when it comes to the numbers and how much they pay kids so um you know I I I couldn't imagine paying a kid I could imagine like if Ohio imagine in some alternate universe Ohio State got Josh Petty and they matched Georgia tax offer and it was a three-year $2.4 mil 800,000 your commitment that doesn't start till next year like what would the current players on Ohio State roster feel like um especially the offensive alignment they're just like well that's nowhere near what we got or what we got offered so um again I think that you know Ohio state does recruiting the right way I think they're very sharp I think that they're not going to they're not going to get emotional like like like again Ohio has as much money as any program in in the country right now for nil but they're not going to get emotional and they're not and they're not going to overpay and if somebody wants to overpay for something then I think that it's prudent and it's smart by Ryan day and Mark Panton and whoever to let something walk you know again if there's some dream car or some dream you're bidding on a house that you and your wife are in love with and you really want and the number just doesn't make sense then I think it's okay to walk and I think that's kind of where we're at with some of these guys that we're recruiting but again that's is my opinion and again that was firsthand knowledge and and they don't even know like nobody really knows what David Sanders asked for but do and I was like I to to go pound salt but that's that's me he's a good player but but whatever um Nevada any thoughts of that and we can get into uh some of these super chats that are popping up yeah no I it's that's something that it's an underrated point because you know you want to get all these guys and everybody's like hey let's get all these guys let's get this guy and let's get that guy and let's do this but man what's the impact on your existing room what's the the impact on your existing starters you know it's the law of unintended consequences and you know when you do stuff like this there's never any secrets with nil and somebody's going to talk about it and you come in there as an $800,000 million dollar year guy and you go Miss a block or whatever it's going to be and you're going to hear about that the rest of the time forever forever and ever so I mean if you're gonna if you're gonna pay guys for me pay Caleb DS pay will Howard pay guys that are can't miss I like when I'm shooting at a Target I want to take my gun and put my gun right up at the bullseye right with the muzzle on the bullseye and then pull the trigger that's how that's target shooting to me I don't want to be standing 300 yards back in the wind and taking a shot and hoping that it hits the target um and Caleb Downs was about as sure a thing as you can possibly do no one's going to begrudge you paying money for that or if you've got a Marmaduke like like JJ Smith pay that man but paying somebody like David Sanders paying somebody like Petty I just think it's uh taken a it would have been taken a huge risk and um I think these te have a way of working themselves out for the best and I I think this probably worked out the best for Ohio State well and here's my problem people said that KK you're a hater you did all these shows David Sanders is the best lineman who's ever lived and he's athletic and all this it's like well yeah he's great at a price at at a certain level but when when I hear the craziness that he asks for I'm just like you know like I I I I I I get it I W match it especially going in in this season going forward the dumbest thing you could do if you're Ryan day and again Ryan Day needs smarter people around he does not have very smart people around him right now I say look Ryan the biggest thing you can do is focus on 2024 it's all that matters we again this Dex class will take care of itself if you win it all you win the championship uh you send you know eka to the first round and uh Josh Simmons to the first round and Jack or JT Ty Leake all to the first second round whatever but you know when people started entertaining um you know you should do this or you should offer this and because like here's here's the thing I'll just I'll just be like superbly real at this point if I'm the starting right tackle it'll has it you know I was all big 10 last year I'm about to be a senior first team All-American candidate whatever uh I'm a captain of the team and I'm making say like you know couple hundred grand whatever and all of a sudden I hear about some freshman you know five-star interior lineman whatever getting offered you know 8 900,000 you know 800 Grand a year for three years 2.4 million from Ohio State I'm sitting there thinking I'm like so I'm a captain I'm an All-American I've proven I could I've started 35 games in my career going into my senior year and you offer some kid who might not even be able to play college football cuz he's a high school kid like triple or four times what I'm worth like I think that that is you want to talk about a disaster scenario for the chemistry of the locker room that's it now again if I'm on the team and you offer Jeremiah Smith a fortune and he comes in and he's like San Antonio Holmes Ted gin Troy Smith Gonzo I'm like okay I get skill guy highly highly skilled super productive I get it but if it's some guy that's some 18-year-old who might have to red shirt or won't start as a freshman or won't because again when when you're offering that kind of money it's not like if you'll start as a freshman it's if you'll dominate as a freshman and again uh we watched the kid from from Iowa that went down to Bama Kaden Proctor and he got massacred by the Texas Longhorns he sucked versus Michigan he was soft he was putting um and I know that he was an nil guy and he transferred back to Iowa then came back to Bama in in a very weird circumstance um that happened but I think that it's important whatever you have to do to keep them route of this current team this 24 team up and it is peak and everything's humming is what you do because the problem with when you offer These Guys these crazy an out deals like Josh Petty getting a threeyear $2.4 million deal $800,000 a year is that agents will leak it parents will leak it and all of a sudden you know these agents you have to understand these agents are parasites and they will say well I got my five-star tackle a three-year $800,000 guaranteed deal from little little Georgia Tech 2.4 million so what is your agent doing why didn't he get you that from b or Georgia or Texas or Ohio city or whatever maybe you should hire me and let me negotiate you're not uh going forward so again I uh I like that we didn't get Josh Petty given the price tag um and again I like that the guys you our guys are they're not starving they're in good shape but you know like I I know what it would be like if you were a returning Captain is candidate like Josh frier or Donnie Jackson or whoever and and those guys get broke off you know those guys don't a little bit of money but they didn't get 800 Grand under that for sure so if Ohio State all of a sudden paid some like that it would be um not great in my opinion Nevada any thoughts of we dig into these super chats no I mean look I I like our offensive line room I me Ian Moore lost his his black stripe today been hearing nothing but good things about him I like the guys that we have in the room I and I think destroying everything that you're doing you know while we've talked about Ohio state will not be beat on nil that doesn't mean that Ohio state will set the market on every ter it just means we have sufficient resources to be as competitive as we want and slash need to be to get guys but there's a certain point where you get priced out of the market on some of this stuff and um I I just I I really believe that we've that sometimes you can dodge a bullet sometimes sometimes the best deals you do are the deals you don't do and I think for this one um I think Ohio State wanted to to stretch for these guys they wanted to do it but the it kind of self- selected out but I'm telling you I really think it's for the best because I it it could have set up a cavate of Badness because I'm not I'm just not sure how good these guys are and with offensive lineman man you know we were talking about you know who's come in as an offensive linean has started right away as a freshman and the only two names we came up with were like like as true freshman were like Corey Stringer and um and the Big O and Michael Jordan I mean it it's not a lot it's not a lot of guys so um you know to have a guy like that coming in and sitting on the bench you know eating nachos making $800,000 a year not a good look and um I think that that that could have been challenging so I think Ohio State um inadvertently dodged a bullet yeah like if if you have um if you have JJ Smith and again you have to understand I'm a huge skill guy proponent so Troy Smith San Antonio Holmes G onz o uh Teddy uh Beanie Wells you pay one of those guys of course because those guys can walk in as freshman and be huge impacts like I have not seen many offensive linemen in the history of Ohio State football walk in and make an impact as a true freshman so a lot of those guys are eating nachos they're chilling out they're relaxing they're on the sideline they get the towel around their head and it's just not it's not a great look um but I think that what the way Ohio city is handling I think is excellent and again it's not me making excuses it's not that I'm like oh my God David Sanders Kirk doesn't care anymore it's just like well again Nevada uh I know I know that you collect stuff you collect all kinds of things cars and whatever there's always a price where there's a price where you're like okay this is this is I got a great bargain or this is fair or I feel like a jamoke because I paid much and again I think with some of these guys um like Jamie French likely to commit to Texas like there's a point where you know if if if someone was a teammate with JJ JJ Smith who's the best receiver in the country like they think that well if I go to Ohio State they'll pay me the same amount as JJ and that's not the truth then they'll say well Texas will pay me what JJ got and so that's why I you know a lot of these guys are are um flipping but I don't think that it's fair to the people in the room to pay a premium for somebody who's never played before who probably will take two or three years to get on the field like Jamie Jamie's good but he's not like JJ good like JJ is like you know on the field first guy first ballot you know Ohio State Hall of Famer at this point and I think that when he gets to the acur game he's going to shred it and score a touchdown or two um but I think that when you look at the uh the the talent and the price points like you know there there were guys that we were like Hey we're going to get JoJo Trader we're going to get Jamie French we're get Vernell Brown and some of these guys but you know when they when you hear what the numbers are just to me it doesn't make sense because I I I do not want to the franchise and then also give this negative vibe because of the negotiating tactics and what people are making nil but I would love your thoughts on this because again you know I'm like you like I'm I love to spend on stuff that I feel like I'm getting a good deal at or a fair deal at but if something is something where I'm like well this is a terrible deal and I feel like a douche then I I hold off I'm good I don't need it that bad but I think that that's something that people that follow recruiting don't really understand is like look if some kid wants something insane and he goes elsewhere then like we we'll survive we'll be okay he'll probably miserable and disgruntled he'll he'll head to the portal um you know right after the year but uh what are your thoughts on that yeah well look um as you mentioned I I collect things and so I few people have been involved in more auctions than I have I've been involved in so many auctions and there's a an absolute thing of auction Mania where you kind of get in there and you're competitive and your competitive juices get up get flowing and you want to win just because you want to win and you're putting aside what the uh what the cost is and what the relative value is and whether it's a good deal because you just want to win and I I fight that all the time when I'm buying stuff and I think for Ohio State you know these are Ultra you know Alpha's competitive at the highest level and they hate to lose and a lot of what nil is is like n iio is like a little mini auction and at some point you got to know where your price is you got to know um you know what your limit is where you're getting a good deal and where you're not getting a good deal and uh I think for Ohio State I I think they've done a really good job of maintaining discipline on that because with very few exceptions I think they've they've paid the appropriate amount of money for these kids that that doesn't mean these numbers aren't up scen and crazy and uh you know Kirk I was eating Ramen and 19 C hamburger buron um probably can't relate to the fact these guys make all this money but it's um I think Ohio State's been very disciplined in their approach and and I think that's uh that's going to pay off for them in the long term yeah I mean I I think that you know I honestly and I mean this sincerely because you guys know that we're we are the fairest podcast in existence that covers Ohio Sports so if some if Ryan da does something that we think is foolish we criticize him if he does something that's good we praise him so and again most podcasts they've never criticized Rye in their lives because they're scared of getting threatened but we just want to give it to you guys straight and again I'm very proud of the way Ryan day and Ohio State and the foundation and the athletic department have handled nil I mean for the most part um outside of Victor Cutler and you're always going to have a couple swings and misses when you do this kind of stuff but I think we've been fair I think we've been responsible I think that kids have not lacked for anything um and I think that you know if you look at the roster we've constructed I said it I said it yesterday it's not an accident that all of the sudden there's a transfer portal in nil we built the best roster in the history of the school there's no there's never been a better roster than the the one we have right now so you we get will Howard we get quinan Judkins we get Caleb DS we get will casmer we get glockton you go back here you get Josh Simmons who I think is going to be a very good left tackle this year like it's uh you know tyon Malone is still on the fence but in general for the amount that we've invested it's been an incredible return starting left tackle starting running back starting quarterback I mean you can't ask for much more and and and I know that we paid well but we didn't pay some insane rate for these guys it wasn't like we had to pay them a fortune to come here and some of these guys like you if you're Georgia Tech and you're paying $800,000 for a freshman like they're paying through the nose to get a kid to actually consider Georgia Tech so um that's fine I mean I think that kids that that chase fast money are stupid um if my kid got off for that same deal and I didn't think I don't think George te head coach is going to be there much longer I think he's going to be a big candidate for Florida I think Florida's going to fire bill in a year by week six so to me I'm like you know if I'm that guy I'm I'm pedaling to get a real job not Georgia Tech and not being in the shadow of the Georgia Bulldogs who will Massacre them in any head-to-head recruiting battle um but I think that the guys that uh um that are committing to these gos for Fast Money they're going to end up back in the portal in a year or two um and I would be willing to wager on that Nevada uh we got some super chats coming in any final thoughts and we'll dig into some of these chats we've got a bunch these stacked UPS I appreciate you guys yeah no I I I totally agree it's it's hard navigating nil is something that Urban Meyer and a lot of guys never had to deal with and and Ryan day is doing a nice job of it and um we're seeing the the uh the product on the field this year so it's uh it's it's great yeah I uh I agree I think it's uh it's something that if you're an Ohio State fan you should love even though it seems kind of weird to love it but I do because I like I said the fat Quin Chan for Ohio State strict that I all play and I love every minute of it Ben G thanks for be ultk for the 20 hope you're having a great day is Tim drno a possible Justin fry replacement if you doesn't improve and uh how does that affect the staff Dynamics did either of you catch the five five families mob series own history it's outstanding if you did not I did not watch that I love mob stuff I love watching um the Gotti movie not the Travolta one but the one that was on HBO that is no longer on HBO but it's on YouTube it's one of the best movies I've ever seen I love it and if you if you love The Sopranos it came out I think a year before The Sopranos came out and like half the cast from The Sopranos is on this movie it's it's really good it's really well done um you know pretty true to form for what got he was and Paul Castellano whatever so I I love mobs I'll check that out uh is Dro a possible fry replacement if he doesn't improve and how does that affect the staff dyamics well I'll just be honest like you know like just this is a big year for Justin Justin is one of Ryan's best friends they've known each other since Florida and then Boston College um they were both you know G or quality control coaches at Florida together um Ryan went to BC Justin was at BC Justin was the o line coach under adio Ryan was the quarterback's coach SL playay caller um so they're they're very familiar um then obviously uh Ryan went to Ohio excuse me Ryan went to the Eagles and then he went to the 49ers went to Ohio State Justin was at BC a little bit longer and then all a sudden he went to um UCLA with chip chip comes here or excuse me Justin came to Ohio State and then chip showed up uh couple years later and then chip also brings his line coach from his second line coach his first uh line coach that he brought was uh was Justin second was Tim dno um I'd be lying if I if I didn't say that I wouldn't be a little bit uneasy if Tim D is in the building I don't know how good he is I know based on his credentials you know Tim dno coached Joe Staley and Mikey potty and Anthony Davis Alex Boon John Goodwin I mean that was what when they when he was coaching the Niners under Jim Harbo that was the best line of the NFL by far um they bulldozed people killed people um and so if I'm Justin and I'm in the room and I've got Tim drno in the room and he's you know the biggest things now is like when you're a quality control coach you have an opportunity to coach so Ryan day and Chip Kelly can evaluate you know uh Tim drno coaching as or previous to this uh this new QC Ro where this infinite coach is like he couldn't legally coach now again I'm not saying Ohio State coached or didn't coach but I know when I was there under the trust regime like I wasn't really allowed to coach if I coached I I'd get Scaled yelled at you're going to be left inside blah blah blah uh because that was literally illegal but now there's nothing that's illegal in college po so if you're the 2 fifth offensive line coach you can get out there and Coach every day so um I would be wary if I was justtin and again it's not because anything Tim dbno did but you know if if Tim driven is some wizard line coach and the players like him and Ryan feels like there needs to be a change made then he's got a guy who's in the building who knows the Playbook knows the scheme um and it would be a a a turnkey solution to replace the line coach so again I'm not saying Justin's getting whacked but you if you've got a guy who's I mean again I like Justin but if you look at his resume versus Tim dros like they're not even close like Tim dno me blows Justin out the water and that's not me be that's just factual look him up on Wikipedia like I mean Tim dno was the line coach of the Super Bowl um you know he was at Michigan when Harbaugh first went there um the interesting thing is like like drebo was Harbaugh's boy for six seven years so it's weird that he's in in the coupe in the chicken coupe with Ryan now but kind of is what it is Nevada Benji uh he says um is drno a possible fry replacement uh if he doesn't improve and uh how does that affect staff Dynamics and uh I'm assuming you didn't watch the five families Mobsters on history but did you no I recorded it though I actually have it on record I have not watched it yet but I somebody else had told me about it and um I recorded it and I'm gonna watch it so I'm I'm excited about that um as look the justifi let's just cut to the Chase Ryan has fired every staff member every year if something goes wrong Ryan fires somebody because so Ryan knows that someone has to pay and so now he's kind of you know down to the point where he's only got two fireable coaches right now he could fire Keenan Bailey or he could fire Justin fry so I think this all depends on you know if this is a national championship or national championship caliber type of season then maybe continue on with your staff but if guys if someone's going to have to be sacrific to the football Gods it's going to be one of those two guys or both of those guys and at that point you know Tim's in the in that room the transition would be you know would be easy um you know for me you know I'd go after a l Charles Bentley or some crazy higher like that and really I mean Charles had some great uh I'm not sure if it was a tweet or an Instagram post or something talking about um you know what he's looking for in offensive lineman and Charles gets it and I just want somebody on the offensive line that gets it that understands what we're trying to accomplish here at Ohio State what's been successful at Ohio State what's been the common denominator between the guys that have made it Ohio State and the guys that haven't and uh if that's Str no great if if we win the national championship and they give Justin a a big raise and a parade and that's great too so I just want to have a uh a coach that understands the culture of what we're trying to accomplish and uh and Tim is certainly somebody who could do that because he's well respected and he's kind of getting acclimated to uh to Ohio State's way of doing things so he certainly is a viable candidate totally agree with you spook junr thank you for the five uh any word on how Gabe P figures into the linebacker Edition he's a backup mic right now Arville Reus is charging at his heels um really competitive room it's amazing how when you put in a guy who's an allamerican and a genius and one of the greatest people on Earth as your linebackers coach your linebackers uh produce like like Monsters so arvol is the scrimmage MVP gay power has played really well uh Sunny Styles is is blossoming CJ Hicks right behind him Cody Simon's going to be a captain and potentially a first te All American candidate so it's funny when you put James ORS in there is the linebackers C how much better the linebacker group get but that's just me I know James like the back of my hand and uh he's the kind of guy that you want your kid to play for he's the kind of guy that you want your friends kids to play for he's the kind of guy that you want every five star to play for because he develops um he's razor sharp he's Fair he's very tough on kids um he's the package he's a lot like Luke fickle but I think he's smarter than Luke fickle and and I love Luke fickle to death but I think James is a smarter version of Luke fickle um better uh strategy guy uh played in the league Luke Luke was in the league for three minutes and again I love Luke vickle but knee B blown out with the Saints and came back to akran to be a ga whatever which is fine there's nothing wrong with that because that didn't last very long in the league either but James had a long career he's seen a lot every coach you Steve Spagnola Greg Williams every guy that was a DC for him swears by him vouches for him um and he never should have had to go to another Dame he should have went to Ohio State initially but we are where we are and now he's home and he's doing a great job and uh the linebackers are cooking right now and I think Gabe P has a huge future Nevada speak Junior again thank you for the five say any word on how Gabe powers figures into the locker room rotation playing great I gab's great kid they love him um like I said I just it's a crowded room it's a crowded room of kids that are all getting better the laurentis effect is real uh you had called it before before he came here I remember there was like drama as to whether or not he'd be the 10th accountable coach and uh you know Ryan finally you know delivered got him the job and um the the results have been immediate and Gabe's been one of the biggest benefactors because he's having he's having a great fall yeah and like again I don't I I don't mean you I always sound negative when I say that Ryan doesn't have very smart people around him but it's like he really doesn't like he needs some people that actually know the program and um understand the program historically no guys like James cuz James never should like when James wanted to coach um again as much as I like to bang on Jim Harbaugh for being stupid and being a cheater like you look at his staff with the charges he's got nvar Bowman he's got Mikey potty he's uh you know Colin Kaepernick who I think's a complete offered him a job he's got the Laney walk he's like seven of his former guys from San Francisco coaching for him you learning the profession um you know one of the smartest things I've heard is that you know when you're a coach basically you need like one year to kind of learn what is coaching one year and then after that is like all of your talent from being a great player kind of takes over and it's kind of like it consumes you so you need a year to kind of figure out the the pacing the scheduling the recruiting you the game planning you the the the your rhythmics of of what you do in the season and then magically you get into the season and it's like you know your um your body just kind of takes over that's what James is like James takes over and James is used to work in long hours as a player and it's going to be even longer as a coach and I think he's going to be um devastating into uh what he can do uh I have uh a pay forward that I'm going to get to in a minute um again uh we need your help uh a police uh officer reached out to me who um is a Pay It Forward member they informed me about a um pretty unfortunate Breakin to a star player at Ohio State's house uh I'm going to put the mug shot on here of the uh culprit um and I'll give you the phone number when that is done but again that was a paid forward member from bucky.com gave me a pretty interesting uh request where they said hey we'd love for you to publicize this and we've published this a lot of places so I'm going put on the podcast uh in a minute Brie clar thanks for the deuce blasphemy time who would you take JJ or Howard I assume that's McCarthy Nevada um for Ohio State this year in Nevada you taking JJ McCarthy or are you taking will Howard for Ohio State I I'm taking will Howard this year yeah yeah I'm taking will Howard because JJ McCarthy's got a torn meniscus and he's out for the season so I got I'm going with the healthy guy you can go with the unhealthy Michigan guy as the closet Michigan fan that you are but uh I'm I'm going with our Ohio State guy what if he what if they were both completely healthy I'd still go with Will Howard I would do I think he's bigger faster stronger I like yeah I I exactly I like I like the bigger guy I'm just I'm going to take the bigger guy Nikki buckets thank you for the five appreciate you my friend a firm believer the reason injuries are up over the last 15 years because players aren't as protected bring back the large shoulder pads see that is really hard to me because I I I don't know if it's because guys are bigger or guys work out more their muscles are more strained but you know there's no reason why injury should be up because the training camps now are a joke football is a joke now um for perspective of training uh there's no more two days at all which is insane to me because again back in the olden days you know 15 years ago we had two days every day like when I show up AT3 we had two days every day you double practices like it was not fun terrible cot um and those are gone now so I I don't know why injur is up um I'd say blame it on the turf I'd say blame it on overtraining I don't know if I could blame it on not being protect protected um I will say that kids that that that these kids love to wear these high these high rise um pants that are above the kneecaps and I think that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen I know that it's a fashion statement these guys want to show up their upper you their lower thigh and their kneecaps or whatever but to me man it's just like if I was an offensive lineman and I saw some of these DBS with their they don't have knee pads on they don't even cover their KNE up I would be diving head first into their ACL trying to make it explode like a uh like a like like like a pumpkin uh the day after Halloween when you smash It On The Ground that's what I'd be going for so again if I saw guys not wearing knee pads I'd be trying to put my forehead through their kneecap and see if it comes out the other side um because I think it's so stupid it's so arrogant um I think these guys are soft as you know um I don't want to say bedward but they're very soft um and they don't cover their knees which again I think is in football if you don't cover your kneecaps man you're just asking for it so when a guy gets a knee injury or gets a bone bruise or whatever I think that's why guys like parcels and Tom Coughlin were militant about finding guys that would wouldn't wear their pants down over their knees and wouldn't wear knee knee pads so I think that's uh it's so impossibly stupid uh Nevada your thoughts uh Nikki bucket is a firm believer that the reason that uh injuries up left 15 years is because players aren't as protected bring back the larger shoulder pads what are your thoughts well I mean and I'm not trying to be think but I mean is it are injuries really up I mean is is that something that's I I I'd have to see what what that I I have not seen that data because I feel like if if injuries were like skyrocketing right now that would probably be like the lead story on Sports Center in my opinion I'm not I'm not trying to cast out any Nikki but it's just like you know if injuries were way up the nflp would say well we got to play on more tur for lesser for more practice or less practice or whatever I just I don't think it's skyrocketed that much CU I think that'd be a big story but I could be wrong so let me know uh go ahead Nevada yeah but because even when you see Ohio State playing they're playing with those big uh jacking the Box pillows over the helmets and stuff like that and you know like you I mean players SA I I'm not saying you know whether they're doing it for liability reasons or whatever it is I mean they go out of their way to um emphasize player safety with the with the penalties that they call with the amount of time that they practice with amount of time that they hit um as you know the NFL is obviously talking about adding another game and I haven't heard a lot of I mean if if injuries were really really up I don't think the player I mean I know everybody likes the money but I don't think the Players Association would be going along so readily with uh adding another game so I'm not debating it I just think look it's a game you know athletes in general are getting bigger faster stronger and the game of football is supreme athletes running around the field colliding into each other and so um I think there's a limit to what the body can take as they Collide but I think football's done a pretty good job of um being sensitive to the injury stuff and even though I would like to see those big those big uh I always like like the the like the jack Tatum like you know uh I'm trying to think like arm pads um like George Atkinson would wear uh the the the neck roll like uh anic caps and moer and uh giant uh giant shoulder pads like John Hicks wore if you had that like some sort of robot that had all those things in it that would be uh the perfect football player as far as I'm concerned the Nevada bot is what I call it the Nevada bot exactly Seek and Destroy 3XL shoulder P I mean I I just think that like I think injuries are going down because there's a myriad of of reasons but like when you look at the lack of physicality in the game again you have to remember like back in the olden days of college football there's no targeting so I mean we we used to destroy people like I mean I had multiple blocks in my career but dble against Oklahoma State where it would have been a a targeting a crown of the helmet ejection immediately but I I had no fear back then because there was no there was no law it was a something we celebrated I think that um the lack of tackling in practice The Wanted days in practice the uh you know I I just think the game is so much softer because we're so much more perimeter focused much more running running out of bounds um routs um I don't know like guys still get soft issues the guys still blow hamstrings in Achilles but I think that that's part of football um I me there's guys that blow Achilles walking you know um you know jogging outside or running outside uh to get some exercise so it's not it's not a football thing but it is very interesting to kind of think about is football safer now or there few injuries now because if you look at it from the outset there's there's less contact than there's ever been there's less uh there's less wear and tear than there's ever been uh cuz there's no two days there's less tackling there's basically no contact in football um you there's some some some good contact between the line the lineman during a camp but it's not anywhere near what it used to be and again this is not me being an old head this just a fact it's just like you know asked look at the Aaron Rogers interview when he talked about like football used to be hard it's not anymore I was like thank you like I was like yeah these guys don't have two a and they've got all these luxuries now it's a different world Sean shro thank you been Ultra member thank you for being a wrench appreciate your brother thank you for the 10 Kirk do you think that David Sanders is a generational Talent get into that left tackle barely start as freshman but isn't Sanders different it's hard to find left tackles of the portal We Get Lucky with Simmons well I don't think Sanders is generational I think he's very good generational to me is something you reserve for Orlando Pace maybe Paris Johnson he is neither of those I I think David Sanders has a chance to be very good um he likely wouldn't start as a freshman at Ohio city no matter what um and I don't AG I don't I don't agree with the fact that we got lucky in Simmons I think that you know we we knew him Justin fry knew him give him credit where credit is Du um recruited him at UCLA he ended up at San Diego State obviously we started his film Justin had a great relationship with him where he could really go to bat and say hey this is the guy that can play left tackle and it worked out um I don't know how many tackles I've seen in the last 20ish years that are truly generational talents I mean to me the guy who's the Prototype of all of the tackles I've ever seen um is lar me tensel lar tensel was the guy I watched on film and I was like I know we're not going to get him because he's going to go he end up going to Old Miss you know I'm sure he got a humongous bag of money to go to Old Miss but I was like that's a guy that'll be three and out first overall pick Hall of Famer pro bowler whatever and you know he if if the Browns were complete idiots they would have trade out that spot but they traded down in the draft and they had a shot to take tonsil and they traded out of the pick and and and this is like when Joe Thomas is like 34 years old or 33 years old and he retired like a year later that's like Larry W tunel is the best left tackle in the draft he's the best left tackle in high school I've ever seen um but you know I I I I think you have to develop I think that you have to find guys to can play left tackle I have this book that Urban Meyer used to make mark p and Tony do Back when Mark PS to work really hard and it was basically every recruit that Ohio that that Florida excuse me when they were with the Gators was interested in and you know why why they didn't get them where they went what was the final evaluation whatever and I remember I used to read that book when I was when I was working at the Woody Hayes and a name that stuck out to me for and will stuck out for the rest of my life is Trent Williams who was in the book Trent Williams is going to be a first ballot Hall of Fame he like a 10 Time pro bowler the left tackle for the 49ers and the reason why the Florida Gators and you stazio who's a pretty good line coach the reason why they didn't offer Trent Williams at Florida wait for it he was not good enough to play for the Florida Gators that was the reasoning this is the guy's 10 Time pro Bower first ballot Hall of Famer one of he's I don't think he's in the list of best left tackles ever but he's in the top he's probably the top 10 but he's not my my upper pan on is J Jonathan Ogden Walter Jones Orlando um baselli those guys are all better than than than than uh than Trent Williams but he's up there and the Gators were just like he's just not good enough not good enough to play uh and be a gator so again I I have that book and it was it's like wow that's kind of a whiff um but he ended up at Oklahoma and ended up being like a you know the fourth pick in the draft whatever it was when he went to uh uh to start his career but yeah deada um any thoughts as we uh as we go forward um Sean trro asks do you think that Dave Sanders is a generational Talent left tackles barely start as freshman but it's in Sanders different it's hard to find left tackles of the portal we got lucky with Simmons what are your thoughts yeah I don't think he's a generational talent and and just because my definition of generational Talent is a guy that I would that's like can't miss and you know gun your head is David would you would you bet real money that Davis Sanders is going to be a success in in college or or would you or would you not bet that well I mean I know what he asked for for his nil deal and I I've been holding my tongue I'm not going to break it on here but I would be very skeptical because I've seen these guys that go chase a bag they've got a t-shirt brand they you know I don't I I I don't know if it's eyes on the ball because again J JJ Smith might end up being the best freshman that's ever played college football he doesn't have a t-shirt brand he doesn't have you know he he he didn't make the he didn't make the uh alleged demands that David Sanders Jr made so I don't know man it's uh it's interesting you know and again I'm I'm not trying to be a hater because people like oh Kirk you're a hater and you love David it's like I love everybody until they they do something stupid and when I heard about what he asked for I was like yeah I mean probably a hard pass um you know we we made it with Taylor Decker and we made it with you know Jack newort and Norwell and um Isaiah Prince and Nick petite FR and Dean Jones Paris Johnson none of them are that stupid um and we did just fine with those guys but yeah so I'm I'm not I don't know like like I said I don't want to kill the kid um but I heard was asking for I was like if I was L say I don't want him either um and again here's thing I'm I'm not gonna kill him for what thing but I just I just don't know if he's a can't miss I mean when I look at when I think of can't miss you know in recent like you said I think of Paris Johnson like Paris Johnson was a can't miss Paris Johnson was a put the gun up to the Target pull the trigger JJ Smith was a can't miss Terrell prior was a can't miss um you know when you you get into Davis Sanders to me is Shan TR Henderson Jordan Sean K Jackson kman or what you whatever you know what I'm saying like like when when I'm going for big guys man the list of big guys big offensive lineman that have not worked out as opposed to whether they have worked out it's a lot longer on the not worked out side so I'd be really wary of of uh placing money on the fact that he's going to be a you know guaranteed starter uh guaranteed contributor guaranteed you know big- time player in in uh in college because um I've just seen too many of those guys flame out and uh I'm I'm just not to me he's in the not sure not say G be bad not say be great I'm just not sure you you certainly you want it you know all things being equal you want to have those lottery tickets on your team because it turns out great that that's fantastic but the question is do you want to overpay and and um I that is not one that I would overpay for nope no chance unless you're a quarterback I'm not overpaying for you um and you can take me into the grave on that one uh for foro Krab for Creator c r e a r forto Creator they for the five Chip Kelly came to Ryan a few years ago what I you have multiple titles I think even a smidge gets us past Georgia and pass M with Kyle yeah I think we do I think that I think that Ryan was um being a bit of an egomaniac but I also don't think that he had any help so you know when Ryan can't find the people that he needs to help him and he's got a bunch of kids coaching and uh guys that he doesn't trust then uh it makes it hard to do the job of being a head coach and being a um you know being an OC uh you when you have to call the plays and then run the game that's those are two huge jobs and people don't realize what it is to be a guy that runs the game like Ryan does uh so I I think that it it really hindered him I think that you know Chip's a guy that is excited as we about Bill O Brien and again you can go back watch our old podcast they still up where we were really excited about that like when chip decided to leave a head coaching job in Los Angeles and come here I've never been more excited in my life because I think he believes in Ryan he wants to save Ryan I think that obviously he's not some charitable CU he's making 2.5 million or whatever he's making this year um but I think what he'll add to the offense and to the team and to the you know like like chips got clout like he doesn't have to take any lip off any of these these coaches or these players because he's been an NFL head coach um for multiple years I mean he um second in the nation rushing at UCLA a year or two ago so he's got major credentials that can really help Ryan um kind of enforce his offense and make it better uh and I think we'd have multiple t with with chip because Ryan could have been a better head coach instead of just trying to do everything Nevada your thoughts uh creator again I appreciate you thank you for the five P an ult as well Chip Kelly came to uh help Ryan a few weeks ago what else you have multiple titles I think even a smidge better get his P Georgia and pass Michigan with KY what are your thoughts yeah I think I think Chip Kelly is the missing link for the OSU offense I think I think Ryan did it by finding Jim nolles to run the defense um I think chip K you could not have crafted a better person that he Trust more with a better resume than Chip Kelly um we are getting such a treat this year Watching this it's almost surreal that we get to watch this offense operate with all these tools with Chip Kelly and Ryan day running it so the only thing I'm going to admonish the fans list others enjoy every single game watch every single game enjoy every single minute because stuff like this does not happen very often and unfortunately this these moments are over quicker than they they come and then you say wow I remember when and then all we're left with is the memor so enjoy it while it's here because it's uh it's going to be a lot of fun to watch yeah totally agree appreciate you I'm in chocolate chip scci I love this thanks for the deuce been saying will only has to be as good as JJ was Nevada do you great yeah I mean look I all he's got to be is I mean JJ McCarthy obviously was a top 10 pick in the draft but be STS and Bennett just be good enough to you know manage the game win the stuff and will Howard's a lot better than that man I tell you if if defenses do not account for will Howard he will Scoot and he'll he'll take one at least 70 yards this year for a touchdown because defenses they underestimate how fast this guy is and when he gets rolling uh he's very difficult to stop and and he's very difficult to catch from behind so um no I think Will's the perfect uh the perfect quarterback for this offense and uh yeah he doesn't have to carry the load on his own like he did at Kansas State brand new experience for him playing with uh within a system of other great players so he's going to do terrific totally agree uh Brett egar uh this is a great question thanks for the five Kirk something I've been wanting to ask is it just me or is Antonio Pitman severely underrated as a great state great Ohio State running back Nevada oh I oh yeah I I think pit is very underrated um he's a guy that I think that he's kind of crucified because he didn't have a great NFL career um he lasted a couple years um pit was tough as Nails he was a great running back very very functional he's a guy that excuse me in all honesty I was surprised he didn't have a better NFL career he's a Lot Like Mike kudla got R of soul I thought kuds would have a great NFL career and be like an undersized pass rusher who played special teams and did everything right and I thought that's what pit would be I thought pit was a guy that could be a factor back and I I don't know if he would have been like a first round guy but I think he could have been you know he was a mid- round guy and he went to you know he he the problem with pit is he went to a really weird situation he got dropped by the Saints and he was behind Duce mallister Reggie Bush and then he was the third guy and like you know when you're the third running back on a team you generally have to be a special teams guy you have to run down on kickoff and do punt punt coverage and all that and pit had never done that before he'd always been a running back and I don't think p played any special teams when he was at Ohio State and I could be wrong and I hope he proves me wrong if I was but I don't think he did so that didn't help him he got cut out of training camp which was shocking for a guy that was drafted in the third round and bounced around was with the Rams for a little bit and whatever but I think Pitt one the most underrated players in Ohio State history I think he's a great player um and I love him to death Nevada your thoughts uh again Brett says Kirk um he's been meaning to ask me is it just him or is Antonio fitman severely underrated um as a great at Ohio State what are your thoughts s yeah well just look I mean if Pitman had come back for his last year look where he'd ranked on the all-time you know rushing list and he'd have been right up there so now Pitman was severely underrated one of my favorite guys loved him as a running back loved his style and um no I I yeah and him getting cut by the Saints was was one of the more shocking things that was that generally does not happened to high round draft picks in third round is a high round draft pick so um that was a little disappointed but doesn't uh doesn't taint the career that he had at Ohio State which was outstanding yeah I agree uh Robert Rogers than for the than you for the deuce appreciation my friend love the show guys appreciate that as always uh they forgot Chris Gamble Nevada o i oh I don't know who they is but I don't forget Chris Gamble Chris Gamble might be on my all time starting lineup um it's stuff at corner man with springs and Winfield and okuda and the guys we've had but you know he was uh he was different like again I I always laugh at idiots that are just like oh you don't go back to former player day and you don't go back to the Woody and I'm like dude Chris Gamble hasn't been back at the Woody Haze since the day he had prod in ' 04 like Chris G one of my favorite teammates of all time I was only there for uh one year with him he it was an' 03 when he was a junior he declared right after the O3 season and he was extremely physical I mean he knocked I mean the hardest I ever took my life as a football player was from Chris Gamble it was a screen pass little bubble screen I had to go out there and go after Gamble and gamble instead of me blocking him he like put his shoulder pad into my gut and about killed me uh taking on the Block and I was like oh my God he was I want to say he was probably the strongest Corner that we that I've seen in Ohio State I mean I don't know who I could compare him to cuz he was kind of built like a safety because he was so strong and muscular but he he ran like a 43 Corner um just a true true freak of nature a guy that I loved he I don't think he said six words the entire season and that was coming you know when I got there he was coming off that 02 season where he played both ways the whole way and then 03 he kind of migrated more to being a true defensive shutdown Corner end up being a first R Panthers but I love Chris Gamble he didn't come back for the 10 re that O2 team that he was a starter and one of the probably the best player on the entire team he didn't come back for the 10-year reunion he didn't come back for the 20-year reunion um none of the players have his like Mike dosses have his phone number none of the players have number um he's down in he's down in South Florida lives um it's funny cuz there's a black guy scoop member that lives by him and told me where he was and took a photo with him but he's very quiet very mild mannered he has no interest in coming up to former player day or hanging out at the Woody Haze because again that's how a lot a lot of the best players who are my my favorite teammates they don't come back and kick it like like I mean I've seen Dari and Scott one time in 20 years since since he got drafted I've seen um gamble will probably never come back um and it's not it's not cuz he's like mad at the scoring it's just like guys guys move on like you know if you hang out at the football building all the time you're like Al Bundy wearing your pul high Jersey and you know it's like you at some point you got to let it go you're not in high school anymore and that's kind of what what it is and a lot of guys feel like that I mean there's a lot of guys that were in for Troy's tournament that haven't been back to the Woody and they're not hanging out there and whatever there's nothing wrong with that but a lot of these guys once they're done with football like they're done with it they're TR they truly move on um and that's great I'm fine with it again I I love Chris Gamble one of the best players I've ever seen in my life one of the best Ohio State corters of all time one of the best players in Ohio State history but um really a quiet guy and I I don't know if we'll ever see him in another Ohio C game which is it's nuts cuz he's like you know two three years older than me and he just does you know he's he's not about um he's not a social media guy he's not a real talkative guy um you know I asked I asked Jim trussle if he had his number because I I'll be real with you like I would love to interview Chris Campbell he's like one of my white whales because you tell me the last time you heard a Chris Gamble interview I haven't heard one not a long long time maybe the Panthers beat Raiders got him or maybe some postgame show or something but I haven't heard Chris Campell voice in a long time so I was trying to get his him for an interview and nobody and I've got 500 Ohio State former players in my phone none of them had his gambles number not one that worked so it was interesting so Nevada Robert Rogers again thanks for the he says love the show guys they forgot about Chris Campbell uh what are your thoughts yeah I mean Chris was I mean like you said might have been the best player on that team and that team was full of EX Hall of Famers and you guys on the the the pantheon of greates but he was special special player no nobody made more big plays than Chris Campbell that year um single-handedly you turned the season around and uh save their bacon time and time and time again so yeah um we gotta keep chasing the white whale because you never know when you uh when you bring one of those home that' be fun yeah I mean the white whales are Chris TR prior chck Carly Archie Arie that should be an easy one that should be like a put put the gut up to the Target and pull the trigger thing that's I was waiting on you your buddy yeah yeah after your your old ways cost us on that one right there when that girl that girl got mad at you and it's like no more you were mean to her girlfriend mild ways well I dumped her it's fine if you D if you dump one cheerleader then the other cheerleader becomes AR's secretary then that's not exct that's not great for business we call and and you get blocked it's all good you on d d Sunny thank you for the five I hope you're good my friend talking about Orlando Pace can you give your opinion on the Cooper era because Eddie George Terry Glenn Sean Springs Ricky Dudley and endless super gave me great memories Nevada I'm gonna let you go first on this one because I've been talking a lot and plus you are much older and wiser than I am on the Cooper air I was a young 12year oldish in in 20 or 97 so I lived through the Cooper era but I wasn't a fan like you were you remember the entirety of the Cooper era your thoughts of the Cooper era in Nevada yeah it was just I mean look it was it was great I think you know I think Cooper kind of uh in my opinion introduced National recruiting to Ohio State and you got a lot of great players and just you know came up short obviously against some really really good Michigan teams um but yeah I have fond memories of that I have fond meor for all the reasons that D Sunny you know lots of great players um I mean the only stain on that was 210 and one and unfortunately that's how you're you know you're rated at at Ohio State is how you do in that game but you know winning the Rose Bowl against Jake The Snake plumber um one of the great memories I've ever had as an Ohio State fan and and John Cooper was there for that and he uttered the great line after the game Ohio State fans are with you winter Tai and um that made him a legend in my book forever and ever so yeah I I I I think John Cooper um was underrated a great and still a great guy still rolling around still a great guy and if you ever get a chance to to talk to him he's really he's really a treat to hang out with yeah I I think that um cp's era was great but it gave us a lot of fuel if the guys that grew up in in my era the AJ Hawk era the Jim Trestle era we had a lot of fuel to beat Michigan because a lot of our heroes were guys like Orlando guys like Eddie and they had fantastic careers in college fantastic careers in the league but they floundered against migan I mean like disasters I mean got teams that really had no um there's there's nothing that was you you would see it coming when they were playing Michigan they're going to lose it again I remember going that Ed George game with timaka puka he runs for 290 yards or whatever it was and you know 96 that that team choked it up and it's uh it's unfortunate but like when you grow up as an Ohio State fan and then you get to do something about it when you actually get to play in the 2000s like it makes you play a little bit harder makes you play a lot harder and I think that that's something that a lot of the kids on the current team don't realize that you know it wasn't always just easy to roll the helmets out and smash Michigan like we've done for the last 20 years you know because again we're we're a lot more National now and I also think that guys don't realize that we used to lose these guys every year like in the 90s there were 210 I mean coupe the one record that everyone knows about Coupe is 210 and one Fair unfair mean not mean but that's that's what people remember CP for and again I think C's a great guy and coup like CP likes to say he never lost to a bad Michigan team but he lost to Michigan a lot so that's what people remember John Cooper by um it's not the draft picks or the rose bow or whatever but you know it's it's what's your Michigan record and that's what people trumpet about trust and urban and that's what people whip Ryan Dave for right now is that he's got smashed three years in a r by Michigan they're cheating but it still it is what it is so um I like John Cooper I think he's a very good guy he's a fair guy he worked for the Bengals when I was there um but you know his team's floundering in that last game in November gave a lot of us a lot of motivation to really want to play hard and remember that you know no matter what the record is and again I I I hate stupid cliches where it's like oh no matter what the record is you got to throw them out versus in a rivalry Ohio like literally when you play Michigan like it doesn't matter how much better you are like in ' 05 we were way better than Michigan but they still gave us the game and we were losing substantially going into that last quarter and thank God we had Troy and San Antonio and Gonzo and you know we blocked which is what we're supposed to do but we had skill guys that really made huge plays and I always say that skill guys they win the Michigan game they won the Ohio State Michigan game look at what Troy did look what San Antonio Teddy like if you guys want to laugh and know how good Ted G was look at his statline from that 06 game and you'll figure out real quick that you know people that want say oh T some Gadget guys some he only ran only a deep threat only punt returner go look at his stats from that 06 Michigan game and then call me and say oh yeah Kirk right he's out just some Gadget guy he's out just some Jet Sweep guy he's a he's a real receiver and he was a he was a dominating Force so that's why it really really kind of sucked when he got hurt the first play of the forward game uh chocolate chip sccci thanks for the deuce I think David could uh only be gener show at OSU uh Nevada your thoughts he's talking about David sers Jr could only be generational at Ohio State what are your thoughts on that I mean I certainly given his best chance I mean I think you know if if and a giant if on that if he goes to Tennessee he's certainly doing it a tougher way and he's certainly introducing a lot of variables into his life equation that he probably doesn't need to but hey you know Tennessee's a good football program you know they produce guys NFL just like we do just not as high of rate as Ohio state does so I wouldn't do it but if that's the bet he makes then I wish him well and we'll probably not hear much from him again that would be my bet my bet is are we gonna you know be moaning the fact that we don't have David Sanders because he's on the pantheon of great offensive you know college lineman or we'll never hear from him again I'd probably bet money on that we'll never hear from him again because that's generally how these stories end totally agree um Trace smth went there ended up being like a fifth or sixth round pick now starts for the Chiefs and couple Super Bowls really good player but he it didn't pan out for him there so why would you risk it this is my opinion Nevada let's wrap this thing up any final thoughts n just excited for will Howard excited for this Chip Kelly offense um uh Will's the starter we are now officially on the will Howard Express jump on and like I said there still you can still get some meat on the bone on will Howard for Heisman future bet think that's some good action but uh 15 days to kickoff or 16 days to kick off whatever is uh let's go appreciate you guys and we'll see you tomorrow night all right let's wrap this thing up
