try to win the national championship and Pete THL is with us with the man who is now in charge the new director of the college football playoff Pete yeah we're here with Rich Clark and Rich obviously we have a new season on the dawn here we have a new era of college football we just saw the explainer on the 12 team playoff there's been significant conference realignment that really sets in today how is the committee going to go about picking this first ever 12 team field yeah Pete that is going to be a tour because we have a lot of great teams this season and it it is very obvious but one thing I want to make clear their job is to pick the best teams and to rank the 25 best teams in America some people get that confused with the most deserving teams right we all think we know who deserves it most your team deserves it most but the committee's job is to pick the best looking at things like not just record but strength of schedule head-to-head competition um common opponents and how did they do and the quality of their win so there's a lot that goes into picking that best team to get them in the playoff with so much changing in college sports we have an elite non-conference game playing here today this committee has a huge onus on it because it's going to shape how teams schedule how teams play whether teams sit players walk us through the challenge if you don't mind Rich of of what's what's going to go into this first playoff well I think the the challenge is really going to be to get it right that we uh pick those 25 teams and that we make them better that we get them bracketed right and then we just see an amazing playoff so then we can look back and go how do we change what what do we do to make it better for next year so um really this year it's about just getting it right crushing it and then having an amazing amazing playoff and Crown a champion on the field all right Rich Clark you crushed it back to you reys thanks
