our topic now is winning is more important than how you play the game please welcome the prime minister mark for three minutes two minutes two weeks thank you madam organizer speaker for today uh yes my topic is uh winning is more important than how you play the game and i intend to demonstrate and convince you that this is certainly the case in in this uh this debate style that i intend to win this debate while i encourage the opposition to focus on how they debate winning is defined by dominating uh destroying the competition and the game is any competition between members or team team uh uh opponents and so uh by winning we're talking about really uh putting a strategy together um and and using that strategy the whole purpose of playing the game is to come out ahead uh otherwise it's not really a game it's just people playing for no particular reason really the intention of any game is to win it that's the purpose that's why you show up if you show up for any other reason you're probably not involved in a game but more horseplay or fooling around or just perhaps even wasting your time thanks very much and so what i wanted to urge everybody to do is focus on me winning this debate by voting for the resolution that winning is far more important than how a person plays the game thank you close to my time i'm a little early but uh that's i'm gonna take it there thanks thank you mark please welcome the opposition danielle for three minutes i'm glad that you left me the floor to play the game what is more important to learn while we're alive and sometimes entering in the game is a great way to learn and as we fall hopefully we fall forward and it means that we learn a lesson in fact the dalai lama said if you lose don't lose the lesson even the most successful athlete or team has lost at some point are they going to stop playing the fans not going to root for them and if so what happens to the maple leafs it may not you may not have all the skills that you need to actually win every single time but it makes you a better person it develops other skills that can be transferred into other opportunities that will make you win do we remember every single winner all the time no we're not inspired by perfect people we're inspired by imperfect people that show up and do their best when i think of alex bilodo who grabbed his brother was handicapped and said more than anybody in the world this guy is my inspiration he's the one that gets me up every morning to go training because i've got no excuse i've got everything in my power therefore people that don't win at the game of life are not necessarily losers they're a great source of inspiration and destroying competition does it have its place in our society in our civilized society like gandhi said what do you think about western civilization and he said that would be a good idea thank you daniel please welcome the prime minister mark for another minute thanks uh i'm going to be quick because i have many things to say and i may even use a little extra time but first i'd like to say thanks very much this isn't about winners and whether they're better than losers per se it is uh winning is more important than how you play the game so of course winners are remembered is anybody who remember who came in 10th or 12th at any of the olympic games i do think the winners are the ones that are remembered uh most falling forward to me seems like name one yeah i can't that's my point uh the the i think the women's uh hockey team i think one is that correct yeah yeah so i think maybe i think we remember that okay so uh falling forward i believe is winning by my definition uh winning is how we improve some decorum please no winning is how we improve and of course without winning by the way we would all give up on these exercises and cease to play the game if we didn't win at least once in a while so there's value in winning um if losing is how you prefer or focusing on the game sorry if if you uh i strongly urge you to focus on how you play the game while the rest of us continue to win the game thank you thank you mark by show of hands who supports the prime minister here four um against so now we'll find out 13. the opposition wins congratulations
