Katy, residents are wasting no time gutting their homes here and removing those flooded out items. Take a look at a two lane drive here. The street is a hub of activity as families dig out from hurricane Francine and for some, it's an all too familiar process and that is certainly the case in the University City subdivision here in North Kenner, piles of debris are growing in front of people's homes on two lane drive. One of the hardest hit areas of Kenner, the street backs up to the Duncan Canal which overflowed its banks as Hurricane Francine dumped about 10 inches of rain here in a short period of time. Some neighbors tell us sewer water also gushed in to their homes during the flood. Some are also having to contend with flooded out vehicles. They showed us pictures of two lane drive from last night as the storm moved through, it looked more like a river than a road. Many of these same homeowners just finished rebuilding and renovating their homes from the damage they received three years ago during hurricane Ida right at the last second. If you look at the, the tracking maps, uh it was on side of us. It was just west of Laplace and all of a sudden it darted east and it was just north of us on Lake Monster Train and it, it sat around here for a good hour. You could see the water line as you, you know, come into the house. You don't know where to begin, what to do, what, you know, I called all my insurance people. You know, I'm just waiting to hear back from them. Oh, luckily the house was raised, but we have an outside building that we have like little parties in and stuff and we raised the floor in that, but apparently that was not enough. Uh, we still wind up with four inches in the inside of that. So we've gotten that all over again and for some, the recovery process is annoying, frustrating and even a bit heartbreaking. But this is their neighborhood, their street, they like their neighbors and they generally like living in the city of Kenner. That's why they are vowing to rebuild tonight. And, uh, we just got an update from the city, uh, during their initial assessment of uh damaged homes here and we are told that, uh, there are in excess of 100 homes that have been damaged during hurricane Francine and they expect that number to grow as they complete their assessment. We're live in Kenner, Paul Murphy, Wwl, Louisiana.
