Cal Football vs Auburn FB Pregame with Mike Pawlawski Bears Radio Analyst AP & Kelly As We C it

hi this is AP St AP and Kelly as we see it we're here at on Auburn University campus to visit with Mike palowski palosi you said it better than I did Mike I said it a lot more times right Mike Mike throw me the ball and this is Doug Parish with football organically and and Mike we want to ask about the cow Bears on offense what does Auburn have to watch out for what are the strengths of your team Jade not we know about him the running back well I don't want to give away what they have to look out for but what you can look four on offense uh Fernando Mendo a Young quarterback I think he gets the start today right there's been an issue about two quarterbacks they brought Chandler Rogers in from North Texas he he was a prolific passer three different schools and there was been some quarterback competition and so I think uh I think Fernando if he gets a start if he gets a hot hand he probably stays in the game right they want consistency at that position so that's number one Jaden not of course the Bears are going to run the ball and so Jaden is going to be healthy today he's going to play and I think having him back gives that offensive line some confidence gives the team confidence cuz Jaden's such a baller and so having him in there is a huge difference for Cal but uh the ability to run the football is key three things Bruce Snider used to tell our teams when you go on the road you need to bring your defense your discipline and your special teams so the Bears have to play great defense today have to have discipline and then special teams need to show up and if the offense can be productive enough and efficient enough that gives them a chance well talking about defense and Coach Snider was a big proponent of getting out there with Coach bear and Lead that defense uh defensive team out there at Cal Mike talk to me a little bit about the secondary because you had null out there no Williams had a a touchdown on a kickoff return on special team so that is definitely important for Cal bars in order to win this game but also playing tough no defense and coverage on the Speedy Trio of receivers that Auburn has Trio they got the the freeze four right they got these four guys five star recruit one guy one of the top receivers in the country got the other guy number 56 recruit in the country like so they got some dudes that can Flatout roll all freshman plus they got the transfer from Penn State who's also a very good football player number five I forget his name I don't have my notes in front that's a cheat sheet for me I have my notes but uh but he can also roll so they got some dudes back there and pton Thorn's a really good quarterback right so that's who they have to look out for but and don't you know blink on jarquez Hunter he's also really good running back so they have a good offense SEC line very good football team and so defense has to be sound they have to be Gap sound up front you know defense have to be Gap sound up front big guys have to stop the run and then they have to leave a secondary to take care of coverage Now cal has a fantastic Duo of linebackers kave is awesome Teddy Buchanan is awesome the transfer from Davis both those guys are all conference type players so they're really good there if you can get a little bit of pass rush move Payton Thorne a little bit that helps out the DBS as you know the DB's best friend is a great pass rush absolutely outside no Williams got the pick last week very good football player got the great return 80 overturn but then Marcus Harris the new addition from Idaho also a great football player so he's going to be in Phase a little better this week Craig Woodson at that safety who's a stud back there so I think they're really sound on defense I think Peter Sherman Justin Wilcox defensive type staff sure I think they'll make something happen back there again you have to have defense on the road and this is an offensive Jugger not in the making but maybe having that veteran leadership in Cal secondary can throw a few wrinkles those freshmen haven't seen yet absolutely Mike who's on the perimeter with auburn should be afraid of from Cal's perspective tight end well nah Hunter showed up last week so really good he's really good football player uh we did not see a lot of Jack Andre he's a freshman All American tight end I expect to see more from Jack Andre this week and then Cory daes who's a transfer from Maryland also very good football player so I expect to see more out of those guys that rounds out the whole Cal offense right there and if the big guys up front you know can can give Fernando or chandel Rogers whoever the quarterback is a little bit of time then they're going to be in much better shape Mike do you know what Mother Nature is also going to be a part of this game today the heat wave here in Auburn versus California it's a different kind of heat and and it's humid here as well yeah it's it's different Justin took the team out to Sacramento to get some heat right so they practiced in 100 plus so they practiced a couple days out in Sacramento get used to heat CU he's a good coach right prepare uh but then he also uh it's not as hot as we expected we got some cloud cover it's not that 98 like it's cooled it off a little bit so it's it's better but it's still humid so they've been hydrating for the last couple days take care of your physiology take care of your body and you just don't think about your play yeah Mike talk to me about what you're doing now personally you you've got a book coming out I'm so excited about reading that book and also you got a podcast talks about the mental edge of the game talk to us about 30 seconds about that yeah well so mental skills are everything when it comes to football if you don't have the mental skills you can try to build all the physical skills you want but when the game comes you're going to fold up and it's the same in business it's the same in life right the mental skills are really what Propel you in life and so I wrote a book called everyday great the playbook for winning at everything and it's about those mental skills that I learned as an athlete how to have mental toughness in tough situations how to take things one at a time like Bruce Snider used talk about all the time how to develop your identity and it's really the simplest formula for creating that winning mindset that winning attitude that you can use so you can be just like a championship quarterback if anybody wants to get on the book be be notified about it just up just talking to you Mike the game gets close the kickers are important of course the punting game so how's the return game special teams for the cow Bears well Lan Wilson great punter fantastic pun we also have a great kicker um and so it should be good special teams much improved so far this year you've got one game so you don't have a big sample size right but we'll see what shows up on the field that's one of the things that you have to bring with you on the team so we'll see what happens special teams today hopefully they don't get give Auburn a lot of opportunities to kick off right
