Nebraska Red-White Scrimmage, Women Volleyball Game, August 24 2024

the official kickoff to the season is finally here and we welcome you back inside the Bob Dean sports center for the first ever televised ball kickoff of the annual Red White scrimmage here in Lincoln Nebraska and hello once again everyone along with former Nebraska Stand Out Kathy we camp welcome back here to the Bob Dean Sports Center as we get set for season 20 24 as Nebraska has coined it a run for the Roses the national championship being held in Lexington Kentucky and that's just where this team would like to be in December [Music] [Applause] [Applause] introductions taking place of this version of the Nebraska Corn escar a team that returns 86% of their kills 99 plus% of their assists 100% of the aces from last year return 96% of their digs and 80% of their blocks all back in a season that's kind of unlike any other follow-up season so much success this team had without any seniors and now the expectations Kathy really take a jump here in 2024 not only from the fans here but also expectations of themselves absolutely and I guess that's kind of maybe the most important um that's really guiding them too they're doing it for themselves they last year a lot of even freshmen out on the court um and playing big key roles and doing amazing things and they just kept building on that building on that um and I think this year what what's driving them is that final game that they didn't get finished how they'd like right but it also it's a new year and we need to focus right now with this group of people and continue to be better each day and that's what they're trying to do um and they believe that'll take them e new transfers so Kennedy or will set for the bside first serve taken by Murray pushed outside crowy who's had an outstanding off seon back after the injury last year slide again to Rebecca Alec got the touch and Rebecca goes High off hands for the first point for the light and as you may notice we're calling goles out there on the court giving her a little better vision and maybe some swag said she prayed about it in the offseason and that was the name that her father always called her was Rebecca so she wants to go back to Rebecca although it's funny when you're around the gym a lot of the players still call her yep and it's going to be something we're going to have to get used to too and coach calls Rebecca but she she said I'm not going to be make a big deal about it weird doesn't it C's a golden goph for many times before excited to have her in the mix here and there's a big block Taylor landfair trying to be a better blocker and passer those are some things um that she's gonna said she's really wanting to key in and really learn from this coaching staff how to do a better job tip knot down great Hustle by CH booy flying in from the back row to keep it alive to an appreciative Applause from the crowd and then just wide the tip by Rebecca Allen g i her feet foot speed to me is so amazing de off the block and gets the kill there's bar her first and Captain selected as Captain she's just does a phenomenal job as a leader for this team good push and Conor striber from that right pin gets the kill goes off Alec aren of the size of the Dandy Sports Center for a red White scrimmage in Squad to kick off the season there's no place like Nebraska turning and um people are so connected to it we're glad we get the opportunity to keep them connected in the Middle s is blocked by Andy Jackson we'll get a chance to see Andy Jackson she has really contined to improve in this off season last year really a Freshman Learning I would say kind of big eyes out there and and um but push back to B there was no touch and point to the reded with a two-point Advantage here early this is John Cook s on the slide great up by be right in the hand of swing by krowy repositions in midair out of the back row the slide Andy with the kill even at six and Andy has come back with a lot of confidence after that experience and her success there you're going to see some pretty impressive things got the touch and another kill on another slide by Jackson Big 10 Player of the Year back in 2022 former First Team all big 10 performer in 21 she chose to make um that decision to come here and she said I really want to be in a place that in an environment that um I feel like I can Thrive and it's a high level has had a terrific offseason she has I just think she is stronger than ever um and she was playing tough before that injury just a rough year last year crowy landfair mie on that left side for Nebraska one of them you know is probably going to be out a little bit of playing time but at least this point it doesn't appear like it's going to Bey she has performed better than the other two to this point in Camp she has you flip that into this year both B and Rodriguez were unanimous pre-season all big 10 swing white preas and landfair land I had think one was yeah five that good quick R there Nice kill by one short I think um right and uh not sure why you know coachi could have just you know tried to spark her on yep she's something I'll tell you but B and and Rodriguez both unanimous another kill Conor but um a lot of fun an important um part of this team too B outside the block and gets the Ki first four postseason games last year she hit 365 in those four but then you get to the final four 11 kills 11 errors 43 attacks she hit exactly just focusing on the little things that make you better she's not only for the players Harper Murray with a kill great decision there the long run KY again what a dig by choboy on the slide not down by m coverage and Kennedy or on the overpass puts it one of the players who all the players love um and like I said do whatever is needed for this team and will do whatever is needed for this team for the white as a block on the swipe by Sky 50 and now serving great coverage there on a tough ball love spad scrapping sit back over by or reorganizing big block cameras and all electronic so it is confirmed and it's probably one of the best oh um not only in conference country if there is if there is a pick to click this year for Nebraska to be Andy Jackson I mean she will Elevate is much more balanced too as she's out there um chasing after balls and I'm going off memory here but I believe the number in the five matches that she played in in that nor Seca was I think she hit 6 600 yeah it was over 600 good ball handling for receive here too that's one of the things that really been a key Focus for this husers in their offse training pre-season Taylor land with you know um as their coaches are directing servers they're they're challenging you know um when you got the littles in you know serve away from them and and Ken also was their go-to grow offensively and so if you can make her serve receive then you can maybe slow her down offensively she was quite a low B goes off the block and out another kill for mer B another Kill by shrier they chart everything in practice and she's been passing um lights out and um she's very calm too and very poised um so as a defensive player she's she's reading and very calm so she's able to make a good things about um having such consistent passers set point here for the white good dig by Rody and S on the overpass [Applause] there you go there's big swing to close it out she's going to run across and say sorry sorry about that big swing by landfair from that left pin landfair [Music] Al just wide and there was not a touch that's going to be they they did call Ma now has switched jersey she's now on the red Squad and coming in the top labero recruits in the country serve long they're able to get back after all the devastation and damage B set up good dig by Rodriguez off the swing by landfair but the overpass Point red back row attack called on white it was great to rejoin and and back together and that helps with that transition to to a new program and getting connected and Nebraska's really focused on relationships and building those relationships strong and having a good culture K got a swing the bum set popped right up there into s's hand and those are the things tough serve there by landfair and landfair with the ace 65 former feeling she's going to find a way to contribute this year absolutely just kind of learn the nebras she's really she finished and graduated wasn't here until early this summer and just getting and a lot of players were training Elsewhere on the US program so and she herself out of the back row into the net for landfair and when she was at Minnesota she got a lot of balls and had and a lot of them out of system and had to learn how to do good things with them and one thing about being here she doesn't have to carry that whole load fre her up they go right back to her again yep better pass that time in system St is blocked out to pierce goes off the top of the block good up by m Pierce again and there is Andy Jackson with the block oh great up first by B then by Rodriguez is there back row just long great up there by m crowy got it on the left pin again there is Lindsay specialist role has came in different times and been that Difference Maker oh Andy Jackson because she's um it's she's she's trained and she's become more confident and skilled she can see better her vision is so much better instead of just swinging back Mount takes it right on the box good slide and there is L Blackwell with the kill interesting to see how the she's she's such a positive person out on the floor um always up um very encouraging but also never see anything but a smile on her face out there so good to be a add that to her skill level here to Nebraska Anie Evans who played for Nebraska went out to San Diego um and now Lea's here that's right and I think that's been really helpful for the transition too between the two teams eight on one side six on the other and that was one of the things too I feel like in the off seon they felt in that ship match serving trying to carry that here intoon black doing a nice job Skyler Pierce will now serve and just long 15 serve and and service errors um and I think obviously if you're looking statistically that's an area that maybe can focus on certainly one of the areas of blocking teams in the country was not that way last year yep have great defense behind it and which did some great things but as you mentioned getting hands on ball slowing it down all those things chatting with Le Blackwell and how great is that to have her as her coach great swing there Harper Murray block didn't get Clos great good tough serve too there bup set out Landair dug by Rodriguez back row Harper Murray out of the back row with the K offense block hands on the ball yep it down the block comes right back off of landfair and in the block of krowy that is shrier and STI the two again stuff blocks are awesome but slowing the hands on the ball slowing it down is also considered a great up by yeah she's off of the rip from and she's comfortable she's calm and so it comes off nice you know a match like this where we fill the arena and you see a lot of younger faces yeah it's the Next Generation and this is a a great opportunity for some people um to get their first first opportunity to be in here and after last year all right see if we can see it here didn't catch the arm yeah you're just not going to overturn I just so this is not one of those still oh it was overturned so 15 or 164 now not 15 all red on top good pass by Rody [Music] off the block and out goes off of STI everybody knew finding ways to get success and get a kill a big swing there by handy Jackson s pushes it deep Corner Murray was there Jackson again CH boy doesn't let it hit the turf Jackson hand there lot of work here out and back in that's good push there again by S to stop that so much what's going on right here this familiarity right y oh what an angle great swing on a great rip cross the ball but toward the edge you're moving out not back into the middle of the Court good up CH booy y big swing again the CH booy was ready again tough ball trapped there got Bon now will serve opportunity here for the red back row landfair just wide red wants the touch and they got it point for red they're going to say a net violation on the 1816 here in the second crafty little shot by crowy moving to the edge to play a ball it's harder to bring it back in that angle you got to bring it back nice great second touch kened or deep [Music] Corner Kill by Jackson right off the hands of Blackwell and down Rodriguez actually serves in the other um position not this one blocked by Alec good timing there nice quick set to Blackwell and and really give their Setter an opportunity to hit him find [Music] them was on it way Riley to serve remember the white the presume aide although I think you're going to see some of those on the B side with plenty of playing time Great temple push to the outside out a system good block by Murray who hung long enough and now three away from from her experience um and I really felt in this last Olympic she really took on a role of helping be a great leader hoer hoer Harper Murray gets the kill that goes off of s and down that right side in that rotation keeper they over there Harper's hitting 500 five kills eight swings one error and that service error was that's too many yep way too many I I do feel Nebraska's passing landfair got one she can handle found the open four great up Rodriguez taking that pass she's trying to cover a lot of court and that's why and there is the power of land you see when she really gets that start at high contact set point for the red and landfair closes it out with the block of B welcome to Lincoln Taylor landfair will of course be the Le barel and you can see Mal then has the labero Jersey on on the red yep on the red side Becca Alec also by the way has moved over to the red side H there is Meritt B getting the kill the side I bet she negotiated in the break my numbers need to go up we move land over to this side swing by Skyler is just wide try to take the sharp angle just missed it but great connection there with the swing from and just missed that Mark by like you said just inches it's a great shot [Music] though between the block goes Conor got the kill good pass yeah I was to say Alec loves to go after that ball wow big swing there's krowy again cut got a Thum down that right inside caught part of the block [Music] do it Matt R did last year have a Sunday practice to do nothing to serve Jack wow what a block s on the slide good up back row landfair off of the block Skyler pierce with the kill out of the back row good pick there by Pierce up that Gap not quick enough great Spot Great up by crowy that was oh good hustle before touches on the white point for the red you can definitely see crowy like no regrets I'm I'm giving everything and it's really paying off still stuck on that Andre Jackson block from a few points ago I mean it literally looked [Music] like pump set back to Murray good job by Murray went High hands M and got him your team another chance to reuse it again just don't bury it in the block and back at you great up great up St pushes it caught him roasted marshmallows yep I mean Murray was coming up bot in front of everyone a good swing there by Blackwell with the kill located big swing and the ace by Murray out of the back row crowy with the kill great swing great swing from the or's done a nice job setting for the red Squad absolutely they run her and trainer with all players through practice just wide by Skyler Pierce no touch point for good block touch by Jackson and B and Jackson got a touch on that but Conor shrier gets the kill and He adjusted setting up early giv her middle information and time to get there b off the block of Alec and be with the kill good Roll by crowy right back over crowy with another [Music] swing great push to the outside what a block Jackson and landfair try to get through that nine well she's kind of showing it off here tonight I think it's incredible and as we you know recognize her as the lifter of the year you know she she was Big 10 second team last year all big 10 freshman team likely has first team honors in her future and There She is again on the slide I think the white team might have going to different locations based on that sometimes she's right in front of the center sometimes she's a couple feet away sometimes she's in the gap between the two blockers coming around behind so she's she's at a point where she's been able to 1312 white with the lead even on the Miss time right so high in the air a high touch point there and got the positive factors great up Dive by chillboy there to keep it alive and a point for the white they got they're pretty on point you never know crowy with the kill love it great in system great Tempo to out to crowy both teams hitting in a high clip here in this set white hitting 500 red hitting nearly 300 and there's another kill for Blackwell just come into practice and just really listening and absorbing and um learning as fast as she can as much as she can crowy again CR with a serve and The Big Dig there back well stay with it there Rebecca finally won by B at the end with the so here's Harper Murray now to serve and the serve is long 19 between the two [Music] teams be off the top of the block back row a great tandem run and put down by Harper Murray put down by landfair on the overpass local wly high school great career there Got The Touch there and the kill just great pass Andy what is that wow their hands full with the that young lady Rodriguez just all over there and she should take that you could see her and landfair both right there oh what a up by m wow that was impressive on the slide Jackson right at Mal and got the kill 10 kills one error 18 swings she's hitting 500 in the match that's the first time she's ever had double figure kills this is on obviously around the speed the um High contact point how are you going to stop that and there off the top of the block goes landfair nice high hand shot but she's just taking care of business over there and getting it done and the production has been tremendous great up by Murray off the block got the kill and great job getting collected and in a strong position to be able to swing back oh good swipe there by crowy not much she could do on a really tight ball POS here with the serve it'll be a point red as Landair yep took off from it as you mentioned just pulled her up got in front of that line swing wide there no touch point for the red red 2320 good short serve Choy takes it on the slide angle is just ridiculous yep it's it's the an set point here for the [Applause] white crowy pushes it off the block good opportunity here Bergen in the second touch keeps it alive see CH boy flying around out there big block great cover there by boser Harper Murray into the block St with the block and I both good pass good set Blackwell with the kill Lea Blackwell closes out set number three and the white Squad is on top two sets to one as we head to the four and you know and she's racking up these kind of numbers one of the things that for her she's so great and you think what do you do to keep getting better I mean um I I love to see her do that there's an ace Pierce and crowy passing with Mal the the Bro tip good job by Blackwell to get a fingertip on it pass by m wow she's just smooth and quick with her feet but the the thing that she does so well is that again stays really calm until the ball comes off so clean oh Big Block on that right side Alec and shrier with the block having them in practice or in the scrimmage situations great job there that went off the block but landed on the line point for [Music] red I love that there over pass be put it away but go back to that set by Riley she hustle right there off the block of the kill there is Skyler Pierce good shot great job by Blackwell set by Blackwell takes it the opposite direction that's staying behind the ball being able to see what you got in front of you and then finishing it off with the swing you know we talked about the numbers seven on the aide yep pretty exciting STI on the slide off of the hands of Landair not that long yeah yeah maybe they missed each other by two years yeah I don't think I don't think so either season she missed and or she's getting a medical Reg season which is why landfair has two years left here at Nebraska to play came back and played part of one season late and again Andy you hope not to get hurt and um blocker she's going over the top of blockers or around on the slide SS again and again tools landfair landfair is freshman year cuz because again after her freshman years when the next year she had the red shirt season landfair gave it a good swing tough ball I mean coming from a behind her head more effectively good Hustle by Boer crowy swing wide no touch point for white and it is 77 there's krowy with the kill pulled her inside instead of pushing her to the pin just again just great connection two feet off three feet off to the pin Alec pushed it through the block Blackwell tried to get there along with Riley but a bit late and Alec with on the red jersey Nine Kills hitting 4 12 pretty good for crowy both sides of the net lots of time and practice with serving and different kinds of serves and and how to you know go through a routine take your breath when you're back there um and you want to be isn't going to f it it's going to change what happens another kill for Conor chick to keep it up T nice job by Pierce be patient and caught her with another kill you saw Becka Alec with the set clearly last year that and that uh again there's so much judgment call in regards to that and players like an a middle were staying out of the out of out of um any um so be it and um your your hitter isn't going to get a great ball they're going to have to take something and and do something positive with it but that's a difference and then a team can set roll M up on a big swing there Pi doing a great [Music] job to get to it there's Crow's back row attack good up by Rodriguez Mal again look at just a spot on she's right in the Box on the slid s off the block and out tell you that diving pass by m she's not just trying to get that up she's right in the Box partly too she's very calm and so it comes off softer instead of a hard surface and um that makes a difference too good block touch there right back out to pierce with the overpass and B finds it that back again too low and inside the 10 L we're like at right around 10 11 12 in in a match very location change of tempo like crowy there 153 and love the fan support here get any better than this I know the new players to the team and particularly the transfers were like we can't wait you know what it's going to feel like celebration swipe that right off the hand of Alec for a point 591 is what Jacks hting right now against a pretty good team on the other side of the net and that block knock down and another one back line that's 15 for Jackson on the slide wow to Alec with the big swing of a kill yeah see a Blackwell and Jackson but don't forget about me Cy winds up and fires away another kill for Lindsay crowy great swing there by crowy out of system great if she adds that to her Arsenal that could be a really big weapon for Nebraska absolutely she's front row you got [Applause] Burg rally with three right now with the red she was hitting a negative for the whites that slow her overall numbers but she's hitting 155 combined but with 14 kills Harper Murray being aggressive I like it just good communication there with her in Blackwell time all American that is as solid a group as you will find and all of them I mean there's potential that there's three of them out on the court at one time in certain rotations and so if you're an opponent you're thinking all right broke down in a big way late and to have another solid back row specialist you know DS labero type to be able to come in and maybe call Waters or give him a different look just something to stop that momentum could have been such a key component they just couldn't find it like you know Texas just ran USC on a Sunday back-to-back games to open up Big 10 conference against brand new big 10 schools it should be fun out of the timeout the swing and got a touch Murray gets a touch and a point says had a lot of opportunities out [Music] [Music] there into the block kept alive though over to the red side here's Pierce and Pierce has blocked B and Blackwell B did a great job there their out and then the ace by berer her second and white out of the timeout has rattled Riley targets Pierce again and she does here delivers this time back rowy right into the Blackwell block and great adjustment Mal stepped in and took a little bit more Court there on the serve receive ped that wide did Harper Murray and the error is returned service error [Music] 24 that's a big swing by Conor B right at Mock and B with the kill match point up coming for the white team as three red players going to the front row Rodriguez to serve from off the net got a block touch opportunity here Riley runs the middle that would have been fitting mm St not down the back row good dig by krowy on the slide St is wide and that'll do it white team wins it in for 3-1 well a lot to uh be excited about absolutely few things to work on right service errors were up a bit yep
