Gracie Abrams Talks Taylor Swift, Grammys & Australia!

ABS hello hi thanks for having me no thank you for being here uh you're super popular and super busy no you're super popular super busy uh I appreciate you making time for me oh thank you for having me I wish someone had told me I was popular like a couple years ago that cool oh was there I mean it's it is the uh it is the story of every musician there was a period of time where you're like is anyone ever going to like me and then one day you wake up and it's like oh actually no doing all right there was a moment of time there where I thought I was never going to sell a show out oh exactly well as long as we're on Australia everything's okay absolutely you are congratulations on uh soldout Australian tour at the moment five shows down I believe one more to go in Melbourne tonight yes I don't want to leave how how are we as a people just exceptional like literally I mean I mean this sincerely the most generous crowds okay like most spirited um so kind yeah it's going to it's going to be sad to to miss you all now I don't want you to drag any country any countries that aren't as generous as Australia I could never say no everyone's so exceptional I just feel lucky to get to share rooms and like nights with people that are generous enough to listen to the music yeah nice um how how's your first time it's you use your technically your first time here in Australia right yeah no no like family vacation absolutely not first time in every capacity is this the was it the longest plane flight ever to get here for you yeah wow yep and I loved it I loved every hour just like the anticipatory anxiety of like oh god oh yeah here we go yeah but tell me about what are your thoughts SL feelings observations about our country it's warm m it's totally summer yeah it right this is good this is goodlock this is very deep this is very deep um no it's been amazing like the food is is like so good the people couldn't be like more beautiful that's one of those appr yeah thank you a personal direct targ um now for people who may not know uh the Gracie story can you give us the the background 411 where where you're from what the the music The Journey yes Wow Let's see in a nutshell I I mean I've just written forever I just love writing in every capacity and I started writing songs when I was really small like eight um and they were horrifically bad um but I yeah I've just been writing forever and kind of started I grew up with in the world of social media and was posting little clips of original of songs on Instagram and was lucky enough to meet um the people that I work with now through my label that way and um and that's kind of the that's the long short yeah nice did you was it the was the plan always to want to do music were you like were you did you dream in your bedroom about being on stage and not about being on stage I was I've I grew up like severely introverted very uh um private and and shy about music like I didn't want to share it with people and the idea of of especially doing it in person like face to face was like the worst thing in the world in my mind so to do it now in this capacity is not what I expected at all and it's also like exceeded every possible expectation it's there's like such Community in Sharing music This Way which of course but I was so terrified of it until recently so um yeah um speaking of being like I mean you can't be afford to be introverted now like not only on stage and you sold out to it but I know people will know you did uh the some of the Taylor Swift shows stadiums yeah they hit completely different stadiums on from a performer point of view in every capacity it's like being on another planet yeah yeah yeah it is did that was that is that fun to play to people who maybe didn't know who you were and then do you did you do you eyeball the people in the crowd as you're performing is like am I winning you over am you winning me over well it's like there's no that she has the most exceptional fan base in the world I think and like to share any time with them such a privilege and like it's epic to open uh for anyone I think especially Taylor but for anyone because it's not about you you get to kind of like Revel in the in the joy that Taylor has built this like unbelievable community of people that are just so die hard for her as Mi I as like a forever as Mi I right so it's like to be in that space you know to be on an elevated surface and to like be able to see everyone quite well in their outfits and with their friendship bracelets and also and you would know this too uh cuz I know you've done supports for other artists um the tayor fans have a way of showing up for the support AE a lot of a lot and I'm guilty of this I'm I'm not I'm I'm guilty of this if you're going to go see a show sometimes like oh I'm just going to sneak in just before the the main the main act but the tayor fans boom they're there gates open they're there so like you are literally playing when you're doing the T shows to 80,000 people not not half of a stadium I know it's really it's bizarre and it Al fluctuates but yes it's like it's it's Madness the opportunity she's so generous with and I'm such a huge fan of all the other opening acts on her tour like selfishly just to be able to share the stage with all of those artists was such a privilege absolutely now now back to you sure congratulations on the Grammy nomination thank you so much how are you yourself absolutely constantly all the time no it's like I think for me it's the to be in that room at all is like uh that is such a crazy it's a wild night cuz I've been before I'm I'm going this year you anys yes uh don't don't drink too much no is it a dry event oh I I don't I'm not sure now I'm not sure for this year okay I I hope it's not for my nerves nerves yes do you know what you're wearing I have an idea well we yeah I have an idea yeah are you g to try and keep it together I'm not sure what do you think is the most nerve-wracking I don't know answer this is it the fact that you like obviously your award category and you really want to win or there could be like your musical sort of Heroes sitting a table across from you and you and it's it's just sensory overload totally it's that for me I have zero expect I feel like I won by like being not that is I I was not expecting it in the slightest so that was like a shock to the nervous system that I've yet to process still cuz you always get to say grammy nominated from now on isn't that disgusting I'm like I love it for you thank you so no I'm just I'm a huge fan of of every single artist that's in the same category as I am like really it's such an exceptional year of music and so to be you know included in any tiny capacity is such a privilege do you know where you were when where were you when you found out that you I was alone in my room I was in bed I had my heating pad on I like I've I've watched the Grammys every year of my life and then since they started doing the nomination live streams like as a fan of Music I've just been so excited so I've watched it every year and I was not expecting it in any capacity and when the category came up they I I don't know if they went in alphabetical order they must have cuz my name was the first that was listed and it was like a guttural like gasp um and you're doing a double take like my is the stream right is this right am I on the right was so scary I was like oh and I didn't process and then Noah con who I'm I just love more than anything he's such an amazing artist and person I am his biggest fan he immediately called me and we were both just on the phone like screaming at each other how great is that um speaking of Noah you have the new trackout with him at the moment that's and he's here at the moment as well I know are you crossing over we don't have any overlap it's such a bummer we've been texting though like how is it that we're in the same place and not but you know he's going to be here on the show tomorrow night oh is he yeah he's going to be yes i' so I've known him for years since the very like the Julia Michael's earlier days shut up okay well I've been a fan since then too but you've had the personal relationship so you wi now but you probably know him better than I do is there any question you reckon I should ask him any stories maybe you two you know did you do a d and dash somewhere no you know we've actually only met in person once get out at a Taylor show is that so there you go but like lots of um yeah lots of just like I fan girl cuz his music is so good and I he was so kind to have me on his song and I love that whole album so much and I'm rooting for him like in every capacity lovely um can I just make an observation you are glowing your skin is so glowing oh my God yeah yeah thank you but I want the reason why I'm observing yours is apparently you do have an icing uh routine according to my notes Here Hyster uh you have a you ice your face can you explain what that is cuz whatever it is I'm doing it look at that you're kind I have makeup on um I yeah some well when I'm home it's funny like being on T cuz all of your routines just radically change all the time so I can't say I it you go from when you're at home in routine Kumbaya with your body you suddenly go on the road and you're just a dumpster fire you're just a dumpster truck dumpster fire that's how I feel yeah no I sing my face I love it I like actually started um a friend years ago around anxiety and T taught me to like hold ice cubes until they melt in your hand so that you're that's the only thing you're F focusing on cuz it's like your mind and your nervous system like it's kind of it helped and then I started just dunking my face and I you know people love that like they do the The Ice you can say great people do love that cuz the real rage now is for like if you go to the gy cold plunging we did it when we did it in Brisbane we went yeah there was like a whole rooftop sure there was I know I was like okay I'll um do you recommend the cold plunge yes I do really I do recommend it so some people can stay in for like 10 minutes but now is the cold plunge worse than getting into a cold shower or would you say I don't I prefer the plunge to the showerer okay shower there's more room for you to like you know exit and kind of be weak about it there is you know you dip in and dip out oh no just turn the hot on cold punch I wish it was a part of my daily routine it's not but maybe some you okay if you could some people are on that in a wellness kind of like absolutely centered way that feel very alive feel very alive it does feel alive I'm not I can't say I'm that deep in the culture no I'm I'll anything I'll do anything I'll I'll get into any Trend I love a trend I'll do it for like 6 minutes and move on to the next one there you go well that's what they're for my house is full of that is just literally was a trend and I'm over it that must be fun for your like friends to just see what you got you know what it's fun for the council cleanup we call it when you have to throw it on the side of the road right right right um now we said you were going to be on the show I put the call out for some fans to send me some fan questions are you ready to roll through these uh have you met this is from uh hamus have you met a koala yes CJ the koala cool 12 months old lovely loved him uh from Tia T I'm not even going to say their names uh your favorite unreleased song that you've written do you have one oh yeah um yeah I do uh it's a song called risk that uh people think online is I had said when I played it one day in in I think it was in Madrid that I played it uh I said this this song is delusional but then people thought that the title of the song is delusional okay it's called RK and it's one of my favorite songs ever um Nikki wants to know uh why did you want to start wearing bows all the time oh apparently the fans show up to the shows in bows too it's a thing um I started wearing bows because my hair was so long at one point and um I was working it really was just a matter of necessity it was exactly it was practical uh but they all look gorgeous in their bows so um Elise wants to know biggest struggle uh when you're on tour and then she R en caps I love you oh I love you more um biggest struggle on tour uh staying like keeping your immune system intact can be intense and sleep routines are like never constant like the the the consistency is challenging on tours but you know whatever nice and then last one uh this feels like uh Emily Jones knows something she goes when will be when will in between be released we know you recorded it it's yet to be recorded I'm working on it so there you go Emily you're wrong was recorded but but I'm getting there so no worries Emily is that a is that a that's a song I wrote when I was like 15 that they especially here during the shows there's been like chanting um for the it's not a part of the set list but I've kind of adopted it as like an acoustic part now I wrote it it's I wouldn't have written it today um but they love it so you know isn't that isn't that the story of every artist song really I'm like oh God like you hear that but I guess it's true yeah yeah yeah um well you sold out the good rid tour is
