any adverse F of the 143 B's aren't going to overheat he's got that wiy strength as arnaldi good Pace on that first serve Broad in the shoulders wonder where that comes from Adam yes you were telling me all about his younger days game another thanks to good friend Andrew ien Holtz from the ATP had a chat with him just a couple of days ago there like to grab some snap interviews with the players and it was a quick audio file that he sent us for about 12 minutes and he was talking about the fact that his dad was a swimmer and his dad had him in the pool from about 3 months old like a good swimming dad would Y and he did a lot of swimming and played a fair bit of tennis for about the first 12 years of his existence he wasn't a kid who play tennis every day it was kind of one day swimming one day tennis until he got to about 12 and he found it swimming was a little bit boring you know on a tennis court you could play on a hard court you could play on a clay Court D partner in to Jordan Thompson to that rumbled in this year with Jordan and Max what a match that was you a little surprised they pulled out at the Olympics together felt as though they had a decent chance of medling there I think he's just got a singles career like you know he's playing the best tennis of his life to go back and play on the clay where he probably doesn't feel he has a decent chance of a middle in singles to go there just for dubs I totally understand Tomo's decision and Max's for that matter certainly paid off for for Jordan didn't it made the final of Atlanta final that lasted pretty much an entire day because of the rain just an early CP into the power and the pace that arnaldi can generate off that forehand Wing in particular it is a proper weapon and again just a massive injection of pace 15 [Applause] 13 yeah I remember seeing araldi for the very first time in Milan he made the the next gen finals in 2022 hav done a huge amount on the the ATP Tour that year but he'd won so many Challenger matches and although he lost all three of his matches that he played in fenace he had to play Nakashima he had to play leka that week were just blown away by the Firepower that he possessed [Applause] 30 you kind of knew it wasn't going to be too long before he started Translating that Challenger form onto the main tour you so many players that have come through the Challenger levels I would say in the last 5 to seven years of spoken about the depth in it and how well it's positioned and teed them up for for two a level 140 13 if you can win a lot of matches in the challenges you're a proper player course that's one of Italian tennis's greatest strengths is the number of Challenger level events they have oh my goodness how good is that touch from analdi do you well it's the disguise I mean to hit a slice like that of an oncoming slice wower I mean it's bordering on feder esque that wonderful soft skills feeling it nicely the advantage and [Applause] do that's some it's a good and a bad thing that's part of an all these he likes to go for a lot and I'm a big believer that when you have that mindset you're going to win more than you lose but I think that's going to be the balancing act for him going forward you know controlled aggression felt like a bit more Reckless aggression fine line between the two Advantage Thompson he's got an accurate serve as Jordan gets good movement through the aent drop shot earlier on in the game that nowhere near is good and Jordan Thompson made light work of that but nice just early statement laid down from four for [Music] could one of his best shots back and down the line there's not a lot that can go wrong with it because it's such a short swing he gets good depth on it and of course Cario like to run thing's got to land in R again 143 now and then especially on the juice side I'd like to see Thompson chip that forehand return he's got such a good feel make sure you get that ball back in play game another first game second of course sitting in Arnold's corner is his girlfriend Mia but of course she she has to put a nationality aside for this one doesn't she Adam being from Australia actually met while she was uh attending school at the University for foreigners in Perugia Italy what a beautiful part of the world that is there's Mia yeah got a house in Melbourne spent Christmas there last year used to call the Christmases a I would imagine from Italy yeah and warm at that time of the year down in Melbourne would have been good prep for the Aussie open the Aussie summer of events down there 15 that was a very close opening set between these two mat araldi did have a look at a break point early on in that first set but Jordan Thompson broke right at the very end and was able to close it out 75 had a half a look The Opening arnaldi Service game of set two oh how would you assess the opening hour or so out here Robbie yeah I think Jordan has served better I think that's laid the foundation for him and the opening set decent first serve percentage at 63 30 love one 83% of points behind the first Ser serve well play well and I think arnaldi helped him out going to the drop shot too often because the first remember the first drop shot he played was such a good one it it was incredible and he thought well I'll have a bit more of that but the next six he played he lost some of them at crucial times and I think that coupled with the five double fals there's a fair few points are giving away there that cost him it's got to be be more circumspect with the shot selection in this set 4 th back up the line again from th very clean Opening Service game to set [Applause] to I said it was a really tough decision to miss the Olympic games this year Thompson just the fact that it was on the clay obviously going from Wimbledon back onto the clay courts to then come back onto the hard courts he said that he just wanted as much preparation on the hard courts in the lead up to the US Open came very close making sure when the new balls will be out thanks yeah came very close Jordan Thompson to picking up a second ATP Tour title this year that was in Atlanta lost against yoshihito nishioka in that final match which had a had a 6 seven hour rain delay in the middle of it 15 quarterfinals in Washington as well did Jordan Thompson lost to the eventual Champion there Seb cord the double fall starting to get a little concerning you want to see that in a set score not in a double false Score 1 15 Alesandra Petron analy's coach been working with him since about 2021 said that the first time he kind of realized that arnaldi had something maybe a little special a little different to a lot of other players was during the covid-19 pandemic it was pouring down with rain Alesandra Patron was driving along the road in his car and he just saw mato araldi on his own just running for miles and miles in the lashing rain and it was at that moment that man there on the right hand side thought okay this guy might have something a little different than how right he was already a top 30 player aged just 23 14 [Applause] 1 for for [Applause] go such a great volley from Jordan Thompson got a little fortunate with the forehand there was a complete M hit but it landed on the sideline but just lovely angled [Applause] volley love how he gets it bit more air because hit it bit higher the spin will bite into the court more he did a very good log a great drop shot again another intelligent going high up over the backand side of Jordan Thompson there he's lucky to get away with that drop shot game but a certain not straightforward right now foro [Applause] araldi I think that is just brilliant attacking tennis the quality of the approach I mean it had to be good because this was in no man's land you have to get the angle on it it's not a bad lob but there's not too many Aussies that don't have a good smash it's almost like it's in their DNA 30 love just can't get anything going Mato analdi just saw him there after missing that backand return both hands on his side struggle to find a rhythm so far 27 unforced errors to just 15 winners we see turnarounds and I mean just think back to Thompson right in Lost care boss this year yeah because he hang on in there it's Alex Mickelson a set 4-1 1540 down Thompson was in that match gone for drop shot again and again just mocked it up very easily [Applause] indeed e e already trailed by a break found himself at love 40 down and it almost looked as though he kind of just checked out of the game just handed this double break advantage to Jordan Thompson and a match that we thought was going to be very close indeed is turning out to be the complete opposite as Jordan Thompson here serving 30 I don't think he's going to be hugely invested in this return game by the looks of it araldi he's just holding the racket there body language doesn't look particularly great oh 4 love it's just been a a master class in courtcraft shot selection and decision making couldn't be any different to the guy on the other side of the Court oh game second set THS well the second set belongs to Jordan Jordan Thompson that he's not made arnaldi play too many balls yeah kind of misjudged that a little bit as well thought it was going long just caught the back edge of the Baseline so that's a positive outstanding endurance no problem to play for 4 hours plus let's for surf very good around the net of course when you package that all together that's why you've got uh a top 30 Player 1 three times in Jordan Thompson's career has he lost a match when he's been two sets to love in front twice have actually come right here at the US Open most recently 2021 against aan KATV 140 15 that's something that crosses his mind when he goes up two sets level actually I must remember that when I was my comebacks have been here guard against it or whether it's just okay focus on the task at hand you wonder if that thought ever enters their head maybe not at this stage if he loses the set [Applause] possi been there just been no kind of emotion from Mato on Aldi either today no real frustration at the way that that second set got away from him it's just been the same kind of look on his face love to hear if he wins a big point just to hear a massive Roar Just or something like that just to get at 32 30 love of course the man that occupies that 30th spot in the world rankings right now is this man tell ndi at his career high ranking as well what's the live rankings for both of Jordan Thompson's up to 31 MDI has just dropped a few spotles defending the uh the fourth round points from last year so he's down at 33 in the live rankings at the moment go Lex second s [Music] 30 point that he won because that could be a major plot point in the outcome of the set and who knows maybe the match he's able to keep it going long enough and finally finding his range on the for now oh love the team another point where he's played the drop shot and it's a good drop shot but he still lost it because Thompson's Vision so good as if he gets a good nudge down the line he's going costly one just when it looked as though the Italian was beginning to find a little bit of inspiration out here oh just can't believe he's get again and Jordan Thompson says thank you very much once again he makes the right shot selection with a Down the Line the easier pass to cover is always the cross why because it has to go across your body so if you make a lunge you can cut off the angle and Thompson understands the geometry of the court so well so Jordan Thompson back on surve in this third set 3 four and that is going going to sting for a mato araldi point of view but he must realize
