other than an expected game one assignment for Ace Garrett Cole the Yankees have not detailed how they plan to align their starting pitching for the upcoming postseason and given the results of the last two days those decisions may have just become a little more difficult one day after Luis Hill returned from the injured list to throw six Innings of one hit ball Clark Schmidt and Nester Cortez combined on a four hit shut out as the Yankees defeat the Cubs Two to nothing here at Wrigley Field Yankees manager Aaron Boone said it feels like they're moving the needle toward being a more complete staff and you may have more arms than fit into slots now especially with Schmidt coming back making his first major league appearance since May 26 Boon said Schmidt had a little bit of everything going as he scattered four hits in a 75 pitch effort obviously on a pitch count but was able to carry over the good things he showed during his minor Le rehab starts specifically his mechanics keeping his emotions in check said that he was quote obviously very excited to be pitching here at Wrigley Field in front of an environment like this 40,000 Plus on hand with the Yanks in town and I gotta tell you the conditions kept offense down wind again knocking down probably an Aaron judge home run probably a John Carlos Stanton home run those could have left the park instead staying in and the pitchers took advantage so Schmidt was very excited you know who wasn't though was Nester Cortez and he acknowledged that he was not thrilled actually said quote he was upset about being moved to the bullpen this turn through the rotation said that he feels like he's been the Workhorse among the starting staff that he was the guy who stepped in when Garett Cole went down in spring training adjusted his routine to take that opening day start at Houston but he said that this outing pitching hitless Le out of the bullpen finishing off the the shutout prove that he can be put in any situation and whatever his role will be down the stretch he will accept that Aaron brone said that Cortez he knew that he was not pleased about it but took it like a professional and so uh we'll see how the Yankees plan to navigate this the next few weeks here Cortez said that he has been told his next start will come against the Boston Red Sox that'll be at Yankee Stadium shout out to Austin wells in this one Clark Schmidt made special uh time to to make point out that rookie catchers do not catch back-to-back shutouts in this league very often Wells helping the cause with an RBI ground out and also throwing out two Runners it was the first time this season Pete Crow Armstrong who had 26 stolen bases has been caught stealing second base so all around uh good performance for the Yanks and this is what Aaron Bo said that look when they when things come together and they play a complete game they can have games like this and so Yankees have now won back-to-back games here in Chicago they have their first series victory since the Colorado Rocky series late last month and with Garrick Cole on the mount tomorrow can go for a series sweep of the Cubbies here on the North side so that's the Hokey pokei that's what it's all about your final score from Wrigley Field in Chicago was the Yankees two and the Cubs nothing more day baseball on top tomorrow see you then
