what maybe you get away with it maybe you can win this week maybe somehow you flip the tables maybe somehow Gus Bradley decides I got to adjust I've got to do something a little bit different for the wak and Kenny Moore wak is more really kind of a slot guy but not exclusively that kennmore is absolutely exclusively a slot guy so you got real trouble you have a Dar of talent at the quarterback position because Chris Ballard has not been good at drafting at that position let's go over the quarterbacks that he's drafted and where this this group is wound up I hate to laugh um Nate hariston well Quincy Wilson and Nate hariston in the 2017 draft that was the first draft of Chris Ballard's era here in Indianapolis Wilson in the second round ran a 45440 and he was traded for the draft pick that became Isaiah Rogers we'll get to him in a moment Nate Harris a fifth rounder traded to the Jets for a a conditional sixth rounder that was not conveyed so that condition was not met Rocky scen second rounder adios Rocky uh and his 451 40 then you get Isaiah Rogers with the draft pick that Quincy Wilson went uh reaped right he was cut because he gambled had a gambling issue gamble honest to JuJu bren's 45340 he's played 10 games he is on IR Micah Abraham drafted in 2024 cut so there you go David uh schold says defense on the field for 40 minutes not Bradley's fault the offense is inept 43 plays for our offense versus 76 for the Texans he isn't without fault but blaming only Bradley isn't right Sten is at fault too look here here's the thing like styken didn't believe in the Colts ability to grind through a drive 12 plays 75 yards so he went vertical and he hit three times and the Colts got a blocked punt which gave them a very short field and had resulted in a oneplay touchdown drive so you're right it's not the 40-20 is not all Gus Bradley's fault but giving up 153 plus to Joe Mixon 200 plus to the Texans and still Nico Collins goes out and gashes you for better than a 100 including the game's most important play that is on Gus Bradley some of it some of it's on Chris Ballard because the quarterbacks that Gus Bradley has to deploy I'm sorry they're not very good so I I agree with you not because in part not because of the 20 bucks but because you're right in part but Gus Bradley 28th and 22 28th and 23 in points against and 23 against the Texans team you know what I and I get it what Gus Bradley was trying to do he said it during his media appearance today that what he was trying to do is stop the run on their way to the quarterback that's what he told the dline to do that really did not work because the linebackers are are pretty damn mediocre for the Colts and because of that the safeties had to come up with 14 and 13 tackles respectively and that is not going to work against a run happppppy offense like the Texans were on Sunday that just is going to work uh Michael lardi said that you know what Gus is playing checkers when you've got to be a chess master to be able to win at defensive football and there's something to that um Jaylen Jones according to Pro Football Focus now Pro Football Focus is a tool it isn't the only tool it isn't the Bible of evaluatory devices or systems right that's not what it is but it's a tool and when they no David schol is not Gus bradle that's funny thank you TJ Joe uh but when the ey test and the grades kind of sink up you look at him jayen Jones a 42.8 over the weekend that's 89th of 94 corner back Zer Franklin of 44.9 that's 59 out of 74 Buckner pay latu and Stewart not bad grading because they didn't play badly the rest of the line was terrible really really bad I don't in in Gus Bradley was asked about it and he he said that he went back to when he was with uh um when he was with the Chargers and you know there is uh Bosa on the sidelines and and Bradley's like what the hell are you doing here you know like what are you doing on the sidelines well they're trying to play eight defensive linemen as though they have eight defensive linemen that can play and they did not on Sunday and that's a bad thing and what the hell I mean honest to God why was Daryl baker Cut Daryl Baker was terrific in practices really good in the preseason games and looked like a guy you need to keep just in case Brent who has been a little bit brittle wound up getting hurt you know and there you are that was the one position on the field where you couldn't have this kind of catastrophic injury this is what they got so now you have to deal with it because Chris Balor did not deal with it at all during the off seon knew he needed a corner what's he do he drafts to a position of strength which wound up looking preent because hey Samson eacom got hurt so there you go laatu slides right in and don't give me the zero tackle zero sacks he didn't play well he played fine I thought he was really disruptive like he had the Texans offensive line jumping they jumped three times because in part because of latu they got to the quarterback in part because there was Heavy focus on latu he played fine I like lot to um but you got to ask at some point you got to ask about Gus Bradley I is he the defensive coordinator because he's the nicest guy in the world or is he the defensive coordinator because he can build a defense that can play according to his time in Indianapolis and prior to that I'm not even going to bother with you know the Jaguars stuff where he was the head coach but post that when has Gus Bradley kind of shephered a good defense in the NFL and the answer is it ain't happened so are you in it to win it or you in it to to have a lot of fun with guys who are really nice people I guess the defense has to figure that out like the defense better Pony up this week for Gus Bradley or this thing's going to go to 0 and2 and you're going to have big trouble you're going to have a problem digging out of that hole with the Chicago Bears hoping to get well in Indianapolis the following week and then you play the Pittsburgh Steelers and at that point you got four games in the books you better be two and two because three of those games will have been at home this is where you are that's what makes the NFL awesome because it's an every week deal you can't take nights off like the Cubs the Reds the Cardinals who at Brewers Yankees White Socks do nothing but take days off but you're going to have a day game after a night game where you're like all right yeah what are we doing like let's let's relax for a day gather ourselves and then get back at it tomorrow you can't do that in the NFL each of these games counts for like 10 major league baseball games in his schedule five NBA games uh Packers without a quarterback Colts without a COR a corner you know what pull is coming to tug instead of push coming to shove P's coming to tug see what I did there uh the offense is a an offense based on deep balls is that sustainable and the answer is no because teams can take that away you can put lots of guys deep but if defenses do that if defenses go to like two way high safeties trying to keep Pierce and Mitchell and Pitman in front of them then what do you do well then you've got what a six-person box and that offensive line better be able to create a hole for Jonathan Taylor who better be able to run run through it and then they got to cheat up then you got the Deep shot again that's what offensive football is all about we'll see if the Colts are capable of doing the other we know they can throw the Deep ball and so to the Packers so to the Bears so to the Steelers um Packers defensive uh coordinator Jeff Halley he's either going to spread the field or he's going to clog the box and bet that Richardson can't repeat what he did on Sunday against the Texans I that' be a mistake because Richardson can't compete that kind of thing uh by the way cloudy chance of rain 30% chance of rain on Sunday according to forecast now 78 degrees on Sunday afternoon at Lambo if you're going up have a great time there is no better place to watch professional football you know what I would say Lucas Oil Stadium excluded but are you kidding me it's
