Oklahoma Sooners Preview | Sooners face HARDEST Schedule in SEC | Jackson Arnold, Danny Stutsman

Overview finished eighth in the conference and we'll and I'm gonna leave let you or I'm gonna let you talk about this team first being your Oklahoma Sooners at eight Brent Venable is heading into his third year coming off of a 10 and3 season in 2023 you return seven offensive starters eight defensive starters and uh the floor is yours good sir talk to me about the Oklahoma Sooners and how what do you think about their um first year expectations year one in the SEC yeah I think like I'm extremely you Oklahoma's BRUTAL Schedule know I'm happy to be in the SEC but I'm extremely nervous about the schedule here's the schedule guys home against Tennessee we just talked about that well you're not gonna talk about you're not gonna talk about Tane September 14th well we're not even there yet like we'll get there we'll get there okay sorry sorry I'm talking just SEC that bet home against Tennessee the next week we go at Auburn the next week we have red river the next week home against South Carolina the next week after that at Old Miss we take a break we have a bye-week against Maine we against [Laughter] Maine oh my gosh that's when you sorry sorry I'm sorry to interrupt you here that's when you know you're part of the SEC when you get some of those November like WTF games like Maine that's when you know you're part of the SEC right so we go bye we against Maine but then we finish at Missouri home against B at LSU where so that so you're telling me Tennessee Auburn Texas South Carolina Old Miss Missouri Bama LSU how are we getting to a bowl game in 2024 how are we getting to a bowl game you guys let me know because I'm as an Oklahoma Sooner fan I'm like okay we're going to clip Maine I'm going to assume we're going to beat Temple and Houston two lane scares me but that's at home so let's say we have those four wins that means we have to find three more wins out of Tennessee Auburn Texas South Carolina Old Miss Missouri B LSU yeah like I look I am a big Oklahoma as big an Oklahoma Sooner fan as is but this is a very very rude welcoming to the SEC for the Oklahoma Sooners now like you said we returned 15 Jackson Arnold starters that's great is Jackson Arnold going to be able to cut down on the turnovers that he had in the bowl game against Arizona right I think he had four total turnovers three picks and a fumble um he does return Nick Anderson Jalil Farooq andrel Anthony as receivers you get Danny stutzman and Billy Bowman on the on the defensive side of the ball at two different levels um h i I don't know it there's optimism in terms of talent but in terms of scheduling it just makes me worry um so it'll be interesting to see obviously we do get Seth Latrell as offensive coordinator he's going to do a great job with Coach with Jackson Jackson Arnold but Oklahoma is in a really tough spot schedule wise I know I keep saying it it's just that schedule is just daunting yeah I think when I look at their schedule too that Tennessee game is going to be a big game for both quarterbacks Nico and Jackson Arnold that's gonna be that game that kind of takes him over the edge both teams and as you propell to October um just to see the entire the T I mean first Jackson Arnold's first ever SEC game will be interesting to see I think Nico's also too because he didn't really play last year um but at Auburn and I know there was media day talks and Jackson Arnold talking about how you know when you go to at Auburn he talked to Carson Beck and how it's kind of cursed there in Jordan hair so you wonder with the low environment how Jackson Arnold will be I don't take too much um to heart on how he played against Arizona in that bowl game because I think it was one of those things one last minute with Dylan Gabriel and two I just think that Arizona defense was just was just ridiculous and I think for you know you know as a quarterback like you know being off Rhythm like that having one pck is one thing but two and kind of gets your head and then three it's like oh man what are we doing so I think he's got the arm Talent there for Jackson Arnold um I'm looking forward to seeing the running back too sawchuck what we Gavin Sawchuk saw from him last season I think that's another guy um kind of reminds me I forget you could you could tell me the running back's name um he was the running back when Baker Mayfield was there he kind of reminds me of him um Joe Mixon no not Mixon um he was kind of lightskinned kind of the same body type as Gavin shotu um I want to say his last name was Anderson maybe I could be wrong um man he was a running back in the Red River rivalry that had a really good game too he had a kick return touchdown I think too yeah oh my goodness it's gonna bother me but we'll find it running back Baker hold on standby um talk to me about talk to me more about Jackson Arnold while I look this up like what what do you expect for Jackson Arnold heading into the season he's he's he's a he's a former five star player right like former five star top three quarterback in the country um coming in as a freshman so there there's a lot of hype around him and I think that when when you think about a player especially as a quarterback going to an Oklahoma that's known synonymous with offense I think there's a lot of expectations and pressure and I think that last year him being able to kind of sit behind Dylan Gabriel kind of helped him obviously well enough to where he threw for over 400 yards against a very good Arizona secondary obviously he needed to cut down on the turnovers but I think that that bowl game gave him some invaluable experience and I think that that's going to allow him to kind of take a take a big leap in year two um not only with new offens coordinator Seth Latrell who has a track record of doing really really well with um big armed quarterbacks but also um having those three sophomore receivers coming back is going to be big as well oh my gosh dude I can't figure out this name Google's being a hold on let me pause this real quick good find Rodney Anderson that's the name reminds me a lot reminds me reminds me a lot of Gavin Sawchuk um another guy though that they mentioned in the trans they added in the transfer portal that I'm really excited to see for the Oklahoma Sooners is Dion Brooks I think this dude's going to be explosive the transfer from Purdue and what you heard from Jackson Arnold talking about Dion Dion Brooks almost Deion Sanders um whenever a quarterback WR Room gives that little smile not too big of a smile but a little smart to kind of like hide it that he's excited but also at the same time it's like you don't know what's coming that's the kind of smile I got from Jackson Arnold this guy Dion Brooks um like you mentioned Nick Anderson and you got um Jaylen faroo is that how you say his last name faroo jalo jalo faroo yeah jalo Farooq yeah I think this receiving CT is definitely going to help out an inexperienced quarterback with Jackson Arnold uh my biggest question question mark though for this team unfortunately when you got a a new quarterback you hope for a experienced offensive line Phil Steels magazine has a ranked 11 and um I don't pay much attention to rankings but I think the offensive line is definitely going to be a question mark and luckily for them the schedule kind of starts out a little easy but you're right that Tennessee game against Nico not only between the quarterbacks is gonna be something we look out for but the offensive line against an secd line with James Pierce Jr is definitely going to be one of those we'll know early on how Oklahoma's going to be for the rest of the year yeah I this The X Factor because we're jumping right into it The X Factor is the schedule that's the like I like I just don't see how we navigate it to seven wins I don't I like I would love to be able to say yeah of course we're gonna clip Auburn we're gonna beat South Carolina we're gonna beat Tennessee but I just can't confidently say that based on the fact that we're not returning a a starter quarterback like if if Dylan Gabriel was coming back I'd say we're going to a bowl game but with it being Jackson Arnold and the lack of experience I just don't know he could be great but I just need to see it uh my X-Factor: Danny Stutsman exactor I'm gonna say inside linebacker Danny stutzman I'm glad he came back for another year wants to play in the SEC in in a scheme where Brent Venom is a defensive Guru heading into the SCC you wonder how much better their defense is going to be and if they're are we going to see a big 12 Oklahoma defense we've seen in the pass or are we going to see an SEC type defense um and kind of see him specifically being that leader of the defense you mentioned last year um you know him being a part of the chaotic unit he had 15 15 and a half tackles for losses 25 run stops and two Force fumbles so a guy I'm looking forward to seeing Danny stutsman as my exactor um for the Oklahoma Sooners
