In Search of La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs | Exploring and Hiking Northern New Mexico

[Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] today's adventure starts right here in laa New Mexico laia this community is on one of the earliest Spanish land grants in the United States hello and welcome what a beautiful day here about uh about an hour north of Albuquerque and there is a cool breeze and the freshness after the rain you just couldn't ask for anything better such a contrast from all that heat and humidity but we are in the search of uh some petroglyphs that I wasn't aware of until recently and I've now just had the chance to come out here and uh the cell service is uh off and on so I keep having to backtrack and so it's going to be fun to try to find them but let's go and have an adventure come on well I guess this is it right here but it's all uh fenced off well maybe we'll have to just see if there's some petroglyphs showing go on the hunt for some petroglyphs oh here's a parking area this guy's sleeping under his motorcycle here okay just took a little bit of driving around this is it right here laia Petroglyph site all right little Trail right here that goes back probably not too far hopefully got my water in my pocket I just can't get over how fresh it is it's downright cold with that wind so nice just some beautiful beautiful country up here ah here's a sign Recreation Area Trail head well it Forks off and there's a fence right there so not sure which way to go I guess we'll go this way oh you can get through the fence right here [Music] well I haven't seen any petroglyphs yet any etchings on the Rocks I wish they had some markers or something that kind of showed you where you might find a couple but uh nonetheless it's a beautiful uh morning walk very fresh air in some beautiful country birds are twittering away well we'll continue down this Valley area here for for a little bit now we're heading around the mountain Cliff here wow it's beautiful back here I love the way the Sun hits those rocks there that is awesome ah this isn't a trail it's just a makeshift little goalie but uh we'll check it out wow this is pretty cool wow up close and personal didn't know I was going to do some rock climbing today oh little rough oh man I still don't see any etchings I just don't know where to look [Music] might be a little bit right there might be something faint right there oh here comes a doggy hi yeah hi yeah oh everywhere I go I see doggies yeah come on and you'll see an opening always have my guardian angel looking out for for me this gentleman here was the nicest guy and the best little dog I'm always running into doggos I just love it but he said backtrack quite a ways I didn't want to hear that I have to backtrack just to get to a trail by the fencing then I got to head back uh to where I originally uh the GPS led me but there was no opening in the fence so I've got to go South and look for an opening going to get my steps in today okay I'm back to where I started oh that was a heck of a walk it's just too hard to squeeze through that barbed wire so got to look for an opening now you tell me okay here's a fellow hiker up here I'll just follow her now if I can run faster than her then I won't have to worry about any kind of uh you know uh Predators like uh mountain lions or bears it's terrible all right that is about where I went down into that little goalie there climbed on those rocks so so we're actually starting right about here I talked to this nice lady on the trail here she said yeah there's there's some faint ones back there and I said I thought I saw a couple real faint ones but uh she said it's quite a ways this way so we'll just walk until we drop I need the exercise anyways the way I've been eating lately ah there's a trail that keeps going oh the rocks oh go falling over oh I always kill myself hiking how to kill yourself while hiking ah we're still on the right track okay okay now I got to look for an opening in the fence ah there it [Applause] is who knows if I would have found this I may have taken the lower Trail all right now the real work starts well how do you get up there there's a trail going around here and there's something this way got to stop and look at that view wow it's nice well looks like a rock climb okay I'm really lost now I don't see how you can get up to the cliffs there without doing some serious mountain climbing or rock climbing I don't know if that's one or not it looks like the one on the picture of the beginning of the trail but looks like someone scraped their name and year in it okay it looks like the Trail Ends right here I'm going to at least hike up here a little bit see if I can make it up these rocks steep this is way too steep yep I fell of course this is the dumbest thing I've ever done let's see if I can get down without killing myself oh out of breath oh my gosh woo what have I got myself into oh when you find your own footsteps you know you're the only one out here oh my goodness well that'll teach me I'm kind of a just get up and go go on an adventure but sometimes alls I do is wear myself out although like I say it's a beautiful hike well I decided to climb up another area here not sure where the trail goes but I'm just a glutton for punishment I'll tell you kind of looks like a trail but not really breathing hard what is this there's something right there om M gosh I don't know how to get up there but I found some really good ones kind of hard to see through the trees there a star and a person the lizard a bird wow cool I'm going to be door tomorrow oh my gosh we're going to get up to these weeds which is about as far I think you can get up here oh my gosh oh cool next time I'll bring some oxygen woo I think I'm going to go up just a little bit more if you know me I have a hard time quitting okay this is awesome look at all of them wow that little snake there I'm out of breath a hand there's like a a Mustang wow just to think thousands of years ago those were etched here by the ancient we blowing it well up here pray for me going back down but uh that cool uh I hurt the side of my hip a little bit falling I'm always fallen so I'm going to take it easy and go real slow I do feel a lot better though finding these some are really worn [Music] [Music] out which way to go oh I made it oh my gosh now if it wasn't for all the backtracking having to go the wrong way then all the way that way it wouldn't have been near as bad other than the climbing but uh hey that's how you learn right I hope I'm going the right way just another 100 miles this way oh it is so quiet when the airplane isn't going by wow I like the very quietness sometimes I see light at the end of the tunnel I was going to say we came full circle but more of an Infinity shape round and round and it's still a little bit of a hike back to the car [Music] [Music] would you look at that view don't pay any attention to the trash well folks that's going to do it for today's video there's
