de Minaur sympathetic after Raonic injury forces walkover: 2024 Australian Open | WWOS

[Applause] Alex is adoring public waiting for him and Jim ker will be posing the questions Alex I know no player likes to to win a match in this fashion when you're opponent has to retire but he was giving you a hard time it was a tough match just take us through it from your Linds what was this match like for you tonight well look um first of all I hope Millis a speedy recovery is not not great to see him like this and [Applause] um he he deserves to be healthy and playing uh the incredible tennis that he's done for so many years so hopefully he's back in no time um now as you saw I was just chasing and serve for the better part of that match um guessing every now and again and ended up getting you know uh maybe a little bit unlucky to not win the first set I got a little bit tired at the end and I just focused on myself second set told myself to restart and managed to Jag a break out of the blue and it kind of changed momentum well this is the first major of the season but it's not your first tournament of the Season you had a successful start at the United cup representing Australia beat three consecutive top 10 players including Novak in that event what's that done for your confidence and the way you view your opportunities here at the Australian Open yeah look it's uh it's no secret uh I've started the year pretty well um now it's all about keeping my head down and trying to keep doing the same thing I mean for me nothing changes uh I do my best to let the tennis do the talking and uh keep working hard so you know that's one down now on to the next that's one match down here and it's already one goal down this year cuz you started the season telling us you wanted to get into the top 10 you were 12 in the world you were close you've done that you're number 10 in the world first time we've had an Aussie male since Leighton huitt in the top 10 congratulations so now with that goal behind you what are the new goals keep going I mean uh it's uh pretty simple nothing changes uh I've I've ticked a milestone but uh I still want to get better I still want to improve I still want to get the absolute most out of myself and yeah hopefully I'm not done yet I don't think so just getting started so you're in the top 10 but I think for my view as far as top speed on tour you're probably in the top three now if there was going to be a competition amongst all the players in the top 100 on tour and you're going to race from this Baseline to that Baseline who do you think might give you the best competition who are the two or three fastest guys out there besides you oh I think there's a lot of quick guys on tour um and I think that's that distance is is a little bit too long for me I'm more of a shorter distance okay should we go this5 if we got the 505 maybe I'm I'm there what's the 505 oh 5 m one way 5 m the other you know I need a turn I'm I'm I'm low so I need to you know stay low gravity get back all right so you're you're just sort of talking a lot of nonsense right now can you give me some names uh look I think Gale he's definitely out there mpy I think uh alrass is definitely up there um jez uh who else there's uh davidovich he's rapid as well um there's a lot I'm telling you there's a lot I want to see that sometimes so someone's got to get on that we need a competition you've got more competition ahead your second round match a young Italian who's fast rising as well Mato arnaldi what do the fans here and at home need to know about your next opponent oh well he's good and uh obviously we we had a bit of an encounter at Davis Cup at the end of the year uh we had a brutal one against itti so you know hopefully I can uh get some revenge for Australia well done Alex star top 10 player congratulations into the second round wide worlder Sports is your home of the Australian Open with highlights of every match of the AO the onc court interviews and every day with the morning serve you'll be ahead of the game so click that subscribe button so you don't miss a thing this Australian Open
