on September 12th SpaceX made history billionaire Jared isaacman and Mission specialist Sarah Gillis completed the world's first private spacewalk marking an extraordinary moment for both SpaceX and commercial space exploration it all began when pure oxygen started flowing into the Eva suits worn by Isaac man and Gillis the purpose to purge nitrogen from their blood and prevent decompression sickness commonly known as the Ben then stex back at home we all have a lot of work to do but from here bir Ser looks like a perfect world during the live stream he said one of the key goals of this spacewalk was to test spacex's new Eva suits Isaac Man spent around 10 minutes outside the capsule running through a series of movements to test the suits Mobility once Isaac man completed his tests he re-entered the Dragon capsule that's when Gill stepped out to run through the same movements she did encounter a small issue with the hatch seals but was able to fix it easily after about 10 minutes she too returned and the crew sealed the hatch the mission control then confirmed that the spacewalk had successfully concluded the Dragon capsule was slowly repressurized bringing the crew back to a safe environment inside the spacecraft Stu ke vice president of dragon at SpaceX said this incredible Milestone is all thanks to the hard work of the crew and many SpaceX teams all focused on a goal of making life multiplanetary on top of that the mission passed through Earth's Van Allen radiation belt that means the crew is exposed to radiation levels equivalent to 20 years of earth-based exposure in just a few hours NASA will be closely monitoring the long-term effects though the SpaceX Eva suits are designed with a protective Faraday layer to Shield the astronauts from harmful radiation and electrical field Fields Polaris Dawn's success is a massive step forward for SpaceX and the future of private space travel it's part of a broader Vision that follows Isaac man's previous inspiration for mission in fact the Dragon capsule used for this mission is the same one from both inspiration 4 and NASA's crew One mission when the mission wraps up the Dragon capsule will Splash down off the coast of Florida marking yet another milestone in spacex's Journey to make private space travel routine
