Well, Carol Burnett has been making us laugh for decades and I believe that her latest role as Norma Delacourt and Palm Royal could be her funniest. Yet. I was so honored to chat with the legend, Carol Burnett. This is bad. You know, Norma. Where is it? Well, yeah, but if I tell him, I know I, I might lose him. Don't you think it is the legendary Carol Burnett? Oh my goodness. OK. My first question is when they came to you and said we have a fantastic role for this new show, an eccentric millionaire widow. But you're basically comatose. What were you thinking, Carol when they told you about this role? Well, actually, uh what came first before they told me about the role? They said we would love you to be in it. Then before they got to the describing it, I said, uh who else is in it? I must say Kristen wiig Allison, Janney, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin, Julia Duffy, Leslie Bibb. I said, stop, I'm, I'm in it. I don't care what you want me to do because I wanna work with these people. Then they told me what I'd be doing. And I thought, well, that's even, that's be, that's so great, you know. So it was, it was a fun idea. And I said she's kind of a mysterious person who has a big secret and she's in a coma the first few episodes, but then she starts to come out of the coma and then when she's able to really talk, she keeps it a secret. She doesn't want people to know right away that she's pretty much on the mend. And so it was a, a lot of fun to play. Yeah, I bet. And so many of us who watched it could relate to all of these roles. But for you, what was it like working with Kristen Wiig with Ricky Martin, who I love in this series? What was that energy like during the filming? It was, it was high, high energy because we all, we got a long, it was like we were in school together, you know, and we, and we became, we became a family and I was thrilled that I had so many moments to, you know, with Kristen and I hope in the second season, I get to, I have more to do also with Alison and, uh and Laura, you know, some of the other cast, but I really had a ball working with Kristen and of course, Ricky, that those were the main uh characters that Norma my character uh had changes with. Yeah, I just love all that interaction, especially with Kristen and, and Ricky. It's just wonderful to see without giving too much away. What is Norma up to lately? I don't know. They haven't told me what's gonna happen at all. I haven't read a script and we haven't had the script given to us yet. Maybe they're still working on it. I don't know. We're supposed to start sometime in the fall. I understand. And then I wanna find out myself why Norma is really a woman named Agnes. Remember that? The last scene? Find out that Norma, is it who she's pretending to be? So I can't wait to find out how Agnes became Norma. So that's a big cliffhanger. And there are a lot of cliffhangers at the end of the uh first season and uh it's a testament to very, very good writing. Yeah, the show is, itself is so intriguing. Now, the show has racked up 11 award nominations. What do you think makes it so special? It's good. Mhm. It's just good, you know, and people got into all the characters and um each one, again, each character has a certain agenda and there's a lot of secrets. We find out that one of the people is an FBI agent that we didn't know about before. You know. So, and uh so everybody, you know, there's, there's gonna be a lot of questions that are gonna be answered. I think in the second season, I cannot wait. OK. One of the things I loved in that first season was the costumes, everything about. It was just so beautiful. What about your favorite outfit in, in, in that first season? And what was that like? Seeing everything come to life? Oh, well, I, everything I wore, you know, for the first few episodes I was in a nightgown and a robe, you know, because she was in bed. Uh, I thought the, um, oh, all of them. They, uh, I loved the final one at the ball because that was all very fancy and, you know, beaded and everything and I thought that was lovely. But the costumes are just incredible. I remember, uh, Bob Mackie. I showed him some pictures of costumes and he was our costume designer for 11 years. He said they are absolutely brilliant, you know. Yeah, he, and he paid her the highest compliment. Well, Carol, we have absolutely enjoyed watching you on Palm Royale. Can't wait for season two. A true pleasure chatting with you today. Thank you so much. Oh, are you hungry? No? Ok. We can wait till dinner. Oh, love this. We'll catch up on Palm Royale on Apple TV. Plus.
