Is Notre Dame Out of the Playoff?

I feel like Northern Illinois northern Illinois out Nutter Dame Nutter Dame right because and and look this Northern Illinois team is an older team I don't think a lot of people realize like they've played a lot of football they've played a lot of big-time opponents on the road they weren't G to be intimidated by this game and then when you saw that when when Notre Dame took that lead on that Jeremiah Love run right when it was 14 to 13 there was no Panic from noan Illinois even when they had to punch the ball back to Notre Dame what did they do they didn't Panic the defense made a play they got a turnover they were able to drive the ball down the field and when they had to be able to line up and run it when I knew they were running it when Notre Dame knew they were running it when God knew they were running it they were still able to have success right they ran for almost 200 yards against Notre Dame outrushed Notre Dame by almost 80 yards and then you look at Ethan Hampton was decently efficient didn't do too much was 10- 19 for 20 a touchdown but Riley Leonard goes another week without throwing a touchdown pass throws two interceptions and when you look at this Notre Dame team and you watched last week against A&M you loved the physicality but you wondered if there was going to be any flash with it because there's got to be some Flash and right now at least to this point and it's going to be tough to come back from this Northern Illinois loss they've got to find a way to start being more explosive in the past game and David all we talked about all off season was the worry was a little bit more about the offensive line at Notre Dame because you had these skill guys uh you know whether it was it was you know at wide receiver with with uh Collins coming over from Clemson whether it was great housee whether it was Mitchell Evans at tight end you knew what you had at running back the we're not getting any big time plays down the field on the outside and if you're Notre Dame you're not going to win many more games playing like that no and Marcus Freeman is starting to create a habit where he's losing football games where heavily favored I thought maybe that was put to bed after watching them go on the road and finally you know really really beat Texas A&M a good football team in a hostile environment the thing I keep scratching my head with is is watching Riley Leonard be incapable of moving the football through the air uh downfield I know when he was at Duke some of the plays that really made us go wow were in The Run game with his legs and we saw that on display last week but I've I've seen him throw the football well down the field and he's and I sort of gave him the benefit of the doubt uh Blaine against Texas A&M that oh Texas A&M's defense is really good strong front seven we knew what kind of football game that was going to be we need Riley Leonard's legs let's just win a low-scoring dog fight but then yesterday the same exact thing and even on the last play on the last interception not only is it intercepted but after the game he said well I made a terrible read That's not accurate I mean it's it's it's short double post from Bunch formation the same thing we broke down with Sam Hartman at Notre Dame last year uh giving them credit for great execution at the goal line it's the same exact play against the single high safety that uh the interior post collected him that you made the right read throw the football down the field it was massively underthrown and now I'm just wondering is that going to be a problem All Season bla well I mean you look at who Riley Leonard was at Duke you know he wasn't most accurate guy but he could get the job down done it's just how and this is a question I got for both of y'all how how physical that game was versus Texas A&M on both sides of the ball y'all think that carried over to this game from a wear and tear standpoint because you're facing another ground and pound play defense don't make mistakes no turnovers eat up as much clock as you can't it's football though yeah it's uh you know it's gonna you know it's going to be physical what I what I question is the maturity of the Notre Dame team I think they got out matured in that game that that's what it like to me it it looked like Northern Illinois never you know TR it looked like Riley Leonard panicked a little bit right like Riley lonard was like man I haven't hit a big play I've got to hit I've got to hit a big play right I've got to show people that that we don't have to be this in a phone booth offense that's gonna methodically move the ball down the field he likes to create right you know what did we see earlier in his career like Blaine was talking about he was able to create outside of the pocket keeping his eyes down the field right making the big play at Duke leading a Duke team that may not be super talented but Riley Leonard's Superman he can do this he can do that and now it's it's just not it's not working right for the big plays on the outside the big touchdown plays that you think about with a team like Notre Dame so uh I think it was a lack of maturity by Marcus Freeman coach team uh for for another season against an opponent that while they do have a lot of experience while Norland Illinois is a good solid MAC football team there is no reason that you you should have let Northern Illinois come into your house when you're not in a conference when you can't get an automatic bid you understand the importance of every single game when you're in Notre Dame's position and beat you uh I just think this Notre Dame team is not mature and and you saw that they looked at Northern Illinois and said well if we can do it against Texas A&M we're gonna beat these guys to sleep uh and then all of a sudden you look up in the third quarter and you're like well they just got another third and two and and they're down one like oh no now we gotta go so does this game tell you anything about Texas A&M are we overhyping A&M I was thinking the same thing right like I mean look it's it's week to week it is circumstantial you know and yes maybe they took a lot of this game for granted but they didn't even on on defense Notre Dame wasn't even run fitting as well as they did against Texas A&M and maybe they just put all their chips into that week one but again to me I just want to say one more thing about Northern Illinois a week after we saw some 73 to three games and 76 to nothing games and big programs scheduling smaller programs what a way to come out and fight the kids on that team yesterday they will tell their grandchildren about that football game and what a moment and all credit to them
