hey Gator fans I am here with the legendary Steve Spurrier coach I really appreciate you joining us today there is a lot of interesting storylines going on in college football right now it is talking season so to speak so I want to jump right into it the SEC is officially home to 16 programs now what do you think about Texas and Oklahoma joining us I think it will create a little more interest it creat creates more money obviously for everyone involved and uh both of those uh teams Oklahoma Texas historically are very good so it will add uh a little bit more SEC being the best conference in the nation and uh hopefully the Gators will be able to compete and still win a conference Championship in the next 10 years sometime so obviously it's going to be tougher than ever to win the conference Texas and Oklahoma are formidable will Conference Championship games go away because just the regular season is so tough I hope not but obviously now everyone's talking about trying to make the final 12 12 teams will be in the playoffs uh I sort of wish we would had maybe about eight teams back in the 90s when we were coaching because we had uh well 10 of our 12 teams finished in the top 10 in the nation so that means we would have probably made the top 12 if we' had that back then but anyway uh it does uh the The Narrative is not so much on conference championships which I I sort of wish it was but there's only four conferences now so it has taken the luster off going for the conference Championship a little bit so you kind of alluded to you know those four conferences and do you worry that all of this realignment and these kind of super conferences that are being built ruin some of the traditional rivalries and some of the uniqueness that is college football well it already has uh you know I coached South Carolina 10 years and this year uh they do not play Florida Georgia or Tennessee that that was our three biggest conference Rivals and then of course Clemson in state rival uh but South Carolina doesn't play any of them now they play Texas A&M LSU you know teams over Oklahoma or whoever but for the fans I I wish we could keep your traditional Rivals but they're not doing that anymore in the SEC there's a lot of talk about our biggest instate rival Florida State and you know wanting to leave the ACC what are your thoughts on them looking elsewhere yeah they and Clemson are trying to get out there's they're not hiding that fact and uh they feel like their football programs and their other programs are just as good as a lot of these SEC teams I think uh every SEC team receives I think around 80 million from television and I think the ACC those guys are already receiving like 40 to 50 maybe something like that so anyway uh there's a huge difference in in what these schools are getting and that's the big reason that FSU and Clemson are trying to jump out of that conference and get in a big one so where do you think they should end up if they do get out well I think FSU uh definitely belongs in the SEC uh Clemson sort of belongs there also but I don't know if SEC wants to go to 18 teams so I don't know maybe the Big 10 would like to have them who knows but it is uh it it is what it is and I think you just go one year at a time and then after that see see where you're at and go from there so FSU if they got in the SEC how do you think they'd fair oh they'd do very well uh the way they played last year and I think Clemson would do pretty well so uh again uh they would do better in the ACC as far as winning conference championships but they they want to play playing the big time and uh I think within maybe two to three years they would be in a different conference so the most surprising part about this answer from coach Spurrier is that he thinks Florida state would do great in the SEC and seems to have absolutely no problem with them joining the conference and you know I this was an opportunity for him to be a little snarky or throw a jab and he really didn't and I think it's um it shows the kind of competitor that he is he can acknowledge the fact that Florida state had a really strong team last year they have done well in the ACC historically and they would do well in the SEC now he also acknowledged that wasn't going to be the same Cakewalk that it is in the ACC for Florida State and for Clemson so if you came over to the SEC they should both expect some serious competition this is not something they would come in and easily win by any means but Florida State Clemson two really good programs that that would do well there but something interesting I also picked up on is when he talked about I don't know if they want to go to 18 and I really think that's kind of where we're sitting at right now at this conference realignment is that we expanded to 16 Florida added Texas or the SEC excuse me added Texas and added Oklahoma two huge money makers that compete across all sports fit in geographically it makes sense right the numbers make sense Florida State and Clemson do we want to split that pie more I guess is the question and what we're having to look at is do both of them bring enough financially to the table that everybody else gets something out of them joining and I do think if we eventually go to super conferences both of those programs make sense from a geographical location they do also make sense in the fact that they are competitive across multiple Sports which is clearly something the SCC looks for as well but interesting from the ball coach had the opportunity it was heed up for him to say Florida State doesn't belong and that's not what he said at all and I know that's not necessarily what Gator fans want to hear Gator fans don't love the idea of Florida state in the conference and not really because they think that Florida state would come in and dominate or anything like that but because it's not that fun to have your little brother that you fight with once a year join your conference spur doesn't care about that though he just cares about the competition so what are your thoughts do you think coach sper is right do you think FSU would be totally fine in the Cc or do you think they would struggle let's talk about it down in the comments I appreciate you guys for tuning in we've got more content coming with the headball coach soon so make sure that you are
