here on the Padre's radio network final score here tonight the Padre's fall 5-2 to the Seattle Mariners Padres split this two game series in Seattle Padre's dropped to 82 and 65 the Mariners improved to 74 and 72 Sam levit with you inside our San Diego Studios lot to do on our postgame coverage we'll hear from Padre's manager Mike schil we have all the radio highlights for you we'll recap this game from start to finish a full look at the out of town scoreboard and we will give you the up to the minute wildcard standings not a great night for the Padre's in that regard we will get into all of it as we move the post game program along here on this Wednesday night I appreciate you joining us with the Padre's having an off day tomorrow and then a three- game series beginning on Friday in San Francisco well here tonight the story sort of begins and ends with the work of Brian woo for the Mariners who was terrific here tonight at one point had 19 up 19 down a perfect game through six Innings and a third he was in command really until the very end of his outing and he kept the padr off the scoreboard and we knew entering this game and really going into yesterday as well the Mariners starting pitching they might have have the best rotation in baseball right now and Brian woo was in the midst of a terrific season a sub3 erra entering tonight's game and woo was quite frankly as advertised here tonight that was maybe not the surprise now anytime anybody you know goes 19 up 19 down against you to start a game it's not what you want it's hard to do no matter who you are but the fact that woo was really good tonight was great tonight not the biggest surprise what it meant on the other side of this game was that the Padre's did not have a whole lot of margin for error in this game and unfortunately there were a few key elements of the two rallies the Mariners put together to ultimately win this game 5-2 we begin in the third Michael King one out walk then a hit by pitch to put two Runners on then he gets a ground ball off the bat of Julio Rodriguez the short stop Xander Bogarts Fields it throws the second I don't know that the Padres would have turned a double play on the Speedy Rodriguez anyway but they they certainly would have got one out and Jay cronenworth ultimately just drops the ball at second base initially on the the initial call it was ruled that he lost it on the transfer but then the Mariners challenge it a good challenge pretty clear that it popped out of his mint before he got his hand in the Mt so it was an error on Jake and everybody was safe the base were loaded RBI single then a two out RBI single or I should say a two out two RBI single later in the inning and just like that it's a three nothing Mariner lead so a little bit of it was on King a little bit of it was on cronenworth again King issues a walk then a hit by pitch then the error by Jake and all that together along with the two hits leads to a three-run inning for Seattle and that would prove to be all they needed with how good Brian woo was in this game you talk about the sixth inning the other rally the Mariners had in this game Adrien morone comes in and he just couldn't find the strike zone he walks two in a row then a wild pitch and then a one out two-run double off the bat of JP Crawford makes it at the time a five nothing game Padres did a nice job in this game rallying in the seventh inning the Home Run for Fernando first hit of the night first base runner of the night first anything of the night for the Padre's against woo to break up the the perfect game the no hit the shut out all of it but look the bottom line is this when you're trailing 5 nothing and we've seen the Padre's come back a lot but you're going up against this kind of pitching staff it's a very tall mountain to climb and the Padre's did get the tying run to the plate in that top half of the seventh inning but that's as close as they would get in this game so again you tip your cap to Brian woo he was terrific here tonight Padre's made some mistakes on the pitching side of things defensively in this game that played a role as well and I say tip your cap I understand this time of year that's a hard thing to do we are in the month of September uh this race in the wild card is extremely close it just continues to get Tighter and Tighter but Brian woo was excellent in this game and the Padre's fell behind 5 nothing and when you got a guy like that and you know a bll pin that can get it done in Seattle's pen that's a a tall order uh for any offense and the Padre's could not find a way to mount a rally enough to come back and tie this game ultimately try to win this game as they fall 5 to2 when we come back we'll recap this game from start to finish we have the radio highlights for you we'll go back to T-Mobile Park here from Padre's manager Mike schil much much more to do final score Mariners five in the Padre's 2 on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e e our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network Sam levit with you inside our San Diego Studios as the Padre's fall five to two to the Seattle Mariners on this Wednesday night Padres and the Mariners split this two game series Padre's have an off day tomorrow they head up to San Francisco for the start of a three-game series beginning on Friday we have much more more on that series coming up a little bit later we'll hear from Padre's manager Mike schil coming up in just a minute so stay tuned for that but first let's recap this game from start to finish what moments had the biggest impact on today's game we'll paint you a picture with our game recap on the Padre's radio network let's begin with Mariner starter Brian woo he was on his game to start the night nine up nine down Michael King also got off to a good start he pitched two scoreless innings to begin his night we still had a scoreless game going Bottom three King issued a one out walk to the Mariners number nine batter Josh Roos King then hit Victor roblas with a pitch Julio Rodriguez grounded a potential double play ball to Short Stop Xander Bogart's fielded it through to second but Jake cronenworth didn't catch the ball cleanly it was initially ruled an out at second in that cronenworth lost the ball on the transfer but then after a review they ruled the runner safe at second it was the right call cronenworth never really had possession of the baseball so after that the bases were loaded with one out for Cal Raleigh he hit an RBI single it was one- nothing Seattle King bounced back the strike out Randy Rose Arena but the bases were still loaded for Luke rley King is ready here's the pitch swung online into right field and B hit robl has scored jrod's on his way Fernando's throw just late two run single for Luke brayy and a three nothing marer lead so king would allow three runs in that inning only one earned meanwhile wo just kept on rolling a one two three fourth inning a one two three fifth inning a one two three sixth inning he was at just 64 pitches through six perfect Innings Michael King went five Adrien morone entered for the bottom half of the sixth inning did not go great he walked the first two batters then a wild put uh pitch put the runners on second and third there was one out for JP Crawford here is pitch seven of the at bat ripped into right field a fair ball going a bounce and wall all the way to the wall rayy and Turner will both score easily Crawford a feat for slide into second base two-run double and a five nothing Mar or lead so Brian woo took the mound in the top of the seventh inning with six perfect Innings under his belts he got Luis arise to pop out to begin the inning to that point it was 19 up and 19 set aside but Fernando tatis Jr was next here's the one and0 Fernando swings hits it in the air deep down the left field line it is gone a home run for Fernando tatis Jr Line Drive shot down the left field side that will break up the perfect game the no hitter and the shutout conr are on the board here in the seventh inning as tatis homers for his second consecutive night the Padre's rallied some more jerks and proar doubled with two outs woo walk J cronenworth that was it for woo Mariners reliever trit Taylor entered to face sander Bogarts one to Bogarts lined up the middle into center field into a base hit throw far rounding third on his way Rodriguez throw will be cut RBI singles Xander Bogarts Padres have another here in the seventh inning and it's 5 to2 so all of a sudden Jackson Merill then represented the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning but Taylor struck him out to end the frame Padres still trailed 5 to2 Brian hoing had finished the sixth inning he stayed on for the bottom half of the seventh inning he got the first two outs of the frame Randy AOS Arena was next one and two to AR Ro Arena and that's hit in the air to right field straight away in deep Fernando racing back he is at the wall leaps up and he made the catch Fernando goes over the right field wall and takes one away hit a homer in the top of the inning Rob a homer in the bottom of the inning and that ends the seventh here in Seattle incredible play from Fernando that kept it a five to2 games so the question became would that play from Fernando spark a Padre's rally well Mariners relever Colin Snyder worked around a two out single from Luis arise in a scoreless eighth inning and then Mariners closer Andre Smo a 1 two3 nth inning and that was that here tonight final score Seattle five in San Diego 2 two runs on four hits one error for the Padres the Mariners five runs five hits and no errors again the Padre's improved to 82 or should say dropped to 82 and 65 Mariners improved to 74 and 72 Brian woo the winner 8 and2 on the year King the loser for the Padres he's now 12 and nine and the save goes to Andre Muno who 20th of the Season as the Padre's and Mariners split this short two game series in season Seattle let's go back to T-Mobile Park in Seattle and here's some postgame reaction let's pull up a seed in the manager's office and here from pod R's manager Mike Schultz presented by sley food spice up your culinary life tip your out to woo that yeah a combination things right woo was really good man he was thr the ball really well um perfect through six you know toddy jumped him um in the seventh but threw the ball extremely well he uh to do that against this lineup saying some so he did a really nice job that said could have been a much closer game for one Play That You Don't See very often um Jake don't see it very often could have been a closer game for a couple reasons really um you know we uh walk hit batter um both score um Jake's trying to make a play Just eludes him a little bit um you know we don't do that to your point a very often and then you know two walks lead off the inning both scored so we had three walks in a and a hit batter all score and of course we didn't help oursel with the with the defense but U very very uncharacteristic of this what what is it about woo you think that makes him you guys are see for the first time so tough is the arm arm slide or um yeah you know um the ball's jumping man you know he's got nice compact delivery has that upshoot heater and ball was just getting on guys and the slider was good you know he had a nice nice mix man um like get nice compact delivery boom balls jumping so um he's got a nice arm through the ball well located made some pitches when he had to you know like I say navigated a very very good lineup homers again what do you think a couple games like this can do with your him going forward it was an impressive swing man just boom right down the line you know I didn't see it but based on the swing looked like probably a pretty good pitch just tells you how talented he is what he's capable of um so it's a a good sign for us and he makes another routine great play in the eighth I mean holy cow what a player that was Padre's manager Mike schelz after this 5-2 Loss in Seattle Sam L it back with you inside our San Diego Studios and and I thought Mike hit the nail on the head there and and kind of goes back to what I said in the opening segment look we can look at the dropped uh throw from Jake cronenworth look that was certainly a big play in that inning and it was an error on Jake and who knows maybe they can turn two against Rodriguez I don't know that they would have got two anybody anyway but they certainly would have got one run and instead of bases loaded with a one out it's Runners on first and third with two outs that's a a very different situation and it ended up partially being responsible for three run scoring in that third but again look at the way those two rallies started for the Mariners tonight this is not all on Jake even though that was an error it was it was a critical play in this game but a walk in hit by pitch from King start the rally in that inning and then the two Walks from morah hone in the sixth inning when it's only a three nothing game at that point both those walks came into score so you know there was a little bit on the pitching tonight too with King again the walk and the hit by pitch and then uh the two walks given up uh for Mora hone that both come around to score in that sixth inning and then again Brian woo what more can you say he was great here tonight and you will run into starting pitchers that you've never seen that are really good that just uh have their way with you for for most of the outing um it was that way here tonight the problem is this time of year nobody wants to hear that you know and nobody wants to um when I when I say nobody wants to hear that what I mean by that is you know nobody wants to be tipping their cap as a fan this time of year right um you know it's uh these games are too important and sometimes when it's uh you know mid June and you run into a pitcher you can kind of shrug your shoulders but it's it's kind of hard to shrug your shoulders this time of year when things are are are so tight um and as a fan that is I mean you know look from from you know Mike Schultz chair I mean look obviously he was great and you're always going to tip your cap I'm talking about from the fan perspective to be clear um then you talk about Fernando tatis Jr who look if you want to pull a silver lining from this game certainly Fernando with the another home run is second in his nights that's a great great sign the great catch in right field so that's a great sign great defensive play look he had a good series see three hits including two home runs and four RBI and in the big picture here if Fernando is starting to get it going that's really really nice jerks and proar had another double in this game and a run scored and look the Padre's did get the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning it was the kind of game when they're trailing five nothing much like we've seen them do time and time again when they Trail you need that one big swing to tie it to take a lead whatever it might be and they just could not ultimately get that big swing here tonight and really aside from the seventh inning they didn't have another runner in scoring position in this game the Padre's only had three at bats with runners in scoring position in this game and they all came in the seventh inning so when the offense has a night like that the bottom line it's going to be pretty hard to win a baseball game in the major leagues and you pair that with how good Brian woo was and some of the miscues on the pit pitching and defensive side of things It All Leads up to a 5-2 defeat for the Mariners here tonight uh for the Padres against the Mariners here tonight when we come back we'll get into our daily Awards full look at the out of town scoreboard coming as well final score again Mariners five and the Padre's two more postgame after this e e e e e our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network Sam love it with you inside our San Diego Studios final score here tonight Mariners 5 and the Padres two Padre's dropped to 82 and 65 on the year Mariners improved to 74 and 72 as the Padres and Mariners split this short two game series in Seattle Padres will head up to San Francisco tonight they have an off day in San Francisco tomorrow then begin a three-game series against the Giant uh on Friday night we'll have more on those pitching matchups coming up a little bit later on tough one here tonight for the Padre's like we've said the big story here tonight Brian woo had a perfect game through six Innings and a third then the Padre's finally got to him first hit of the night was the Fernando taus Jr solo home run that made it a 5 to one game got the Padre's going a little bit then the double from proar a walk to cronenworth RBI single for Bogarts and all of a sudden Padre's would get the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning but unable to find that one big swing here tonight Michael King five innings three runs given up one earned again if you take out the error by cronenworth what happens ultimately in that third inning I guess we'll never know but uh King threw a grand total of 90 pitches in this game little bit up and down for King again it wasn't all along Cronin worth in that third Kings did walk a batter to uh start the rally there for the Mariners hit a batter to put put two Runners on and then even after the error by cronenworth it was King who gave up the base hit to Raleigh and the two-run single to rley that gave the Mariners a three nothing lead with all that in mind there was a bright spot out of the Padre's Bullpen really a couple of bright spots out of the Padre's Bullpen here tonight let's tell you about one of them with our relief pitcher of the game which pitcher was able to come in and slam the door shut it's time for the relief pitcher of the game in support of the Jacobs and kushman S Diego Food Bank providing food assistance to local children families and seniors in need to get help or give help visit San Diego foodbank.org our relief pitcher of the game here tonight we'll give it to Brian hoing keep it on the Padre side of things for uh a relief pitcher tonight because he was really deserving of it hoing did a good job came in in the sixth inning runner on third base struck out Victor oblas at the top of the lineup to keep it a 5 nothing game after the Padre's made it 5 to2 in the top of the seventh inning what does hoing come out and do a 1 two three bottom half so a shutdown inning there if the Padres come back and somehow win this game we're looking at the work of hoing as a really big deal in this game ultimately went four up four down continues to be Stellar out of the Padre's Bullpen and for all those reasons Brian hoing our relief pitcher of the game you look at what he's done so far in a padre uniform a 090 erra in 14 appearances 20 Innings he struck out 16 walked four he's allowed 11 hits but again a 090 ER in 14 appearances he has been terrific since the trade from Miami so nice job by hoing wandy Peralta also a scoreless bottom half of the eighth inning to keep it a three-run game keep the Padre's within Striking Distance so some nice work by The Bull Pen hoing and Peralta in particular but not enough here tonight as the Padre's fall five to2 when we come back a full look at the out of town scoreboard we'll update you on what the Wild Card Standings look like at the end of tonight we'll also have our player of the game play of the game coming up a little bit later as well if you want to get a quick phone call then you can at 833 288 0973 again 833 288 0973 final score here tonight Mariners 5 padr 2 our postgame show continues after this on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e e our postgame show continues here on the Padre's radio network Sam levit with you in solder San Diego Studios as we wrap this one up final score here tonight Mariners 5 and the Padres 2 as the Padres split this mini two game series against Seattle let's update you on the out of town scoreboard and then tell you what's going on as far as the Wild Card Standings let's take a trip around the bigs and tell you about the scores you need to know in our outof town scoreboard presented by Jensen meet where great taste meets Integrity let's begin with the game in San Francisco Giants beat the Brewers tonight 13-2 Mike yky a three-run home run in that game for San Francisco A's beat the Astros 5 to4 four in Houston Cardinals beat the Reds 2 to1 in St Louis the Red Sox beat the Orioles in 10 5-3 Tyler O'Neal a walk-off home run in the bottom half of the 10th inning and that one for the Red Sox twins beat the Angels 6 to4 in Minnesota Yankees beat the Royals in 11 4-3 in New York the Nationals beat the Braves 5 to1 in DC Little Help from CJ Abrams his 20th home run of the season in that game for the Nets the philes beat the Rays 3 to2 in Philadelphia Tigers beat the Rockies 7 to4 in Detroit Diamondbacks beat up on the Rangers today 14 to4 in Arizona Au henio Suarez a couple of home runs in that game for the Dbacks Mets beat the Blue Jays 6 to2 in Toronto that really doesn't tell the the full story of that game the Mets were being no hit heading into the ninth inning by Bowen Francis Francisco Lindor tied the game by breaking up the no hitter a leadoff home run in the ninth inning to tie the game at one Mets scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning they win that game 6-2 so they nearly were no hit and lost in Toronto actually came back to win the game 6-2 Guardians beat the white socks 6 to4 in Chicago earlier today Pirates beat the Marlins 3 to1 in Pittsburgh one game going on right now that is the Dodgers and the Cubs in La the score there Dodgers 10 and the the Cub seven in the ninth inning in LA and that is a full look at the out of town Scoreboard on this Wednesday as far as the wild card standings in the National League how they will look at the end of tonight again Arizona wins New York wins Atlanta loses and the Padre's lose as well so the big picture right now the Padres no longer are in the top wild card spot Arizona jumps ahead of San Diego with their win and the Padre's loss here tonight so the Diamondbacks now hold that top wildcard spot the Padre's only a half game behind Arizona now sitting in the number two wild card spot the Mets are sitting in the third and final wild card spot Padre's are a game and a half ahead of the Mets and then you have Atlanta right now on the outside looking in uh trailing the Mets by a game for that third and final wild card spot so the Padres still have a little bit of Cushing when it comes to being on the outside looking in even when it comes to that third wild card spot but again as of right now the Padres are in that number two wild card spot and in case you don't know the number one wild card spot you would host a wild card series the two and three spots you do not host you would go on the road so there is a big incentive to get that number one wild card spot as we know we've got a long way to go and a lot can happen now things are very very tight and again again the order Arizona the number one San Diego the number two wild card the Mets the number three wild card and Atlanta a game behind the Mets right now on the outside looking in and that's how things will look at the end of tonight let's tell you about tonight's player of the game which player had the biggest impact on today's game let's find out who is today's player of the game presented by Valley View Casino and Hotel catch every game at patties and Bs Plus enjoy $4 beer every Thursday visit Valleyview casino.com today our player of the game here tonight will give it to the Mariners starting pitcher Brian woo and you know look part of me wants to give it to Fernando and he's certainly deserving the home run the catch all of that but when you have a guy that takes a no hitter a perfect game I should say into the seventh inning 19 up 19 down he was as good as woo was tonight kind of hard now to give it to woo Who timately won the game six and two3 innings two runs given up on two hits and he kept the Padre's off the bases again for six and a third here tonight so player of the game Brian woo just that kind of night for the Padre's in Seattle let's squeeze a quick phone call in let's go to Renee calling in from Spring Valley Renee you're on the Padre's postgame show how are you hey Sam I'm doing good man thanks for taking the call hey uh absolutely you know when I was talking with my son during the game I said that is a good pitcher and thank God we're not going to face Seattle in the playoffs you know yeah and you know it feels like the last couple weeks or so you know a little bumpy and stuff and um I'm hoping we're just you know getting all the Uglies out and and and getting ready to you know get two things I keep saying win the next game win every series cuz that's where we are right that's what it is Sam yeah it's that time of year and appreciate the phone call look uh I'm with you on the Mariners if the Mariners just had a better offense I mean this rotation is excellent I mean they would be really dangerous in the postseason but this has been a problem now for them for a couple of years where they can't hit they have a great rotation they can't hit so um that's just a part on Seattle but you're right if the Mariners somehow got in you love the rotation um look for the Padre's right now you said it they've got to focus on Friday I mean there's just no time to dwell on these losses um look they have not played as well as they've played earlier in the second half they've now played around 500 for a few weeks um it's not the end of the world they're still in a good spot when it comes to the playoff picture but we've got a ways to go here and it's really tight and they got to keep playing well and at some point here you'd like to see him start to rack up some wins again in a row and go on a little bit of a run here to end the year cuz they may need it to get in I mean it's really close and the Mets are playing extremely well the Diamond Backs have cooled off a little bit but they continue to play pretty well Braves were playing well they've cooled off a little bit the point is it's really tight right now and you know again it's not a a shrug of the shoulders after tonight's game when you you run into a pitchure of the caliber of Brian woo and how good he was but look all right you lost here tonight yeah you know forget about it and focus on Friday that's all you can do right now these games are far too important and again just to go back to the opening segment what we talked about look this time of year whether you're facing Brian woo a great starting pitcher or another starting pitcher it's going to be true in every game now down the stretch the margin for error is really thin everything becomes magnified everything becomes important so when you walk and hit a guy uh to put two Runners on and then there's an error that compounds into a big inning which can cost you a game that's what happened tonight you don't want to walk two guys later in the game letting it go from a three nothing deficit to a five nothing deficit every little thing matters especially this time of year with these games so important and by the way I thought Jesse and Tony said it right during the broadcast they said something to the effect of all the wins right now as we go along here in September are going to feel really good and the losses are not going to feel good at all they're going to feel really really important and they are but losses are not going to feel very good at all right now winds are going to feel great it's that time of year Padre's got to you know I'm with you got to kick things into gear a little bit more here uh starting this weekend in San Francisco because it's been hovering around 500 here uh for a few weeks so you'd like to see him kind of get it going once again all right final score here tonight Mariners 5 Padre's 2 when we come back we'll hear our play of the game wrap things up get you ready for Friday in San Francisco postgame show continues after this on the Padre's Radio Network e e e e e our postgame show continues here on the padr radio network final score here tonight Mariners 5 and the Padre's 2 as the Padres and Mariners split this two two game series in Seattle we'll tell you about the upcoming Series against the Giants in San Francisco beginning on Friday in just a moment first let's hear tonight's play of the game what was the crucial play that determined who came out on top this is today's play of the game presented by Bill how Plumbing Heating and Air King is ready here's the pitch long on line into right field and it B hit Ro BL has scored jrod's on his way Fernando's throw just late a two-run single for Luke rley and a three nothing there in her lead that was our play of the game the Luke Ry two run single in the third inning made it a three nothing game and look the Padre's would only score two in this game so ultimately that would have been enough to win this one for Seattle made it a three-run third inning and that was the big inning that really for the most part helped decide this game so as always doesn't give us any great pleasure to be handing out our Awards here tonight to the Mariners and look the Padre's had some nice moments in this game the Fernando home run the Xander Bogarts RBI single did not just make it a 5 to2 game but to get Jackson Merill to the plate representing the tying run that that was all great tonight the catch by Fernando was outstanding tremendous catch I mean was that the best defensive play the Padre's have had this season I think it it probably is right I mean nothing comes to my mind that tops what Fernando did up against that right field fence that was awesome you hoped it could have sparked a rally to ultimately come back and tie this game take a lead win the game did not happen but uh there were some nice moments late in the game but again when you talk about the win and the loss here tonight uh feels like something from that third inning and ultimately the two-run single for rley our play of the game here tonight all right taking a look ahead to Friday remember the Padre's have an off day tomorrow it's a weird week they had an off day Monday two game series in Seattle off day tomorrow they begin a three game series in San
