here in South Ben one of the biggest games in program history for the Northern Illinois Huskies taking on a legendary team in college football history the fifth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish there's those iconic golden domes and in their reflection the red and black of NIU running out of the tunnel striving to make a statement though it started as one might expect transfer quarterback Riley Leonard took it himself on Notre Dame's opening drive for the first score the game an 11y touchdown absolutely key for the Huskies to respond quick and even though they started their first drive on the 2- yd line a tone Setter for NIU running back Ontario Brown shows off his hands on a slant route and broke free 83 yards to the house a pivotal moment in this game and the huskys tie it up Northern hit a field goal after that drive to make it 10 to7 and if you want to pull off an upset the turnover battle is key ball back with ND Leonard dropping back to pass and intercepted by Christian Ferman at excellent concentration on the play the Huskies faithful who made the trip starting to get more and more excited again just a field goal 13 to7 NIU so not as much as they could have gotten in the half but their special team showed out at the end of it blocking a field goal from the Irish to keep their advantage at this point everyone at the stadium is thinking whoa could this upset really happen well the Irish faithful got some reassurance running back Jeremiah Love hurdles a man on his way to a 34 yd touchdown and a one-point lead moving into the fourth quar quarter same score with over 6 minutes to play the Huskies come up with another critical interception amarian knon gives his team another chance to score last drive for NIU 2 minutes left fourth and two on the 31 Ethan Hampton gets there for the first down 36 seconds to go a 35 yard field goal attempt for Canon Woodhill maybe the biggest kick in program history is through the uprights huskys going wild but still time left in this game the Fighting Irish got held up on niu's 44 yd line a 6 two- yard attempt for the win and it's blocked again the max school from Good Old to cowb Illinois does it their first win in program history over a top five opponent 16 to 14 an absolute dog fight the Northern Illinois Huskies really did it tune in tomorrow to hear from the players and coaches on this win and if you want a little sneak peek of that check up on my Twitter as well as my Instagram I'll be posting it all throughout the night but for now reporting in southb Indiana at Notre Dame Stadium Josh SCH 13 WX
