well today I am proud to announce the largest middle class tax cut in British Columbia's history it's the biggest pledge yet from BC United leader Kevin Falcon promising that if he becomes Premier his party will eliminate the provincial income tax on the first $50,000 earned by every British Colombian you'll keep more of the money you earn while a BC United government balances the budget and brings back fiscal responsibility to British Columbia right now anyone who makes $1,980 a year or less does not pay provincial income tax the BC United plan would raise that exemption to the first $50,000 the party says the cut would save every taxpayer just over $2,000 a year on average and eliminate the provincial income tax for 60% of BC earners it would also mean a 5.4 billion doll hit to the province's coffers premier David eie says the proposal will only lead to massive service cuts the way that he will propose to do this is the same way that he did it before oh don't worry I'll cut your taxes over here but you'll pay MSP you'll pay road tolls Bridge tolls fees and charges they'll sell off public assets to pretend that the books are balanced Falcon insists he would not cut Social Services saying his party would offset the losses by cutting what he calls government waste the policy would be a disaster says one Economist with the left leaning Canadian Center for policy Alterna Alternatives I think it's delusional to think that you wouldn't see um service cuts um when you punch that big of a hole in provincial finances but an economist with the right leaning Frasier Institute says the5 billion Revenue loss could be reduced by the positive economic benefits of the tax cut these types of tax cuts are necessary and important because there's such a heavy competitiveness problem in British Columbia Kevin Falcon's pitch comes as his party continues to lag behind John Rad's BC conservatives a recent poll from Le shows BC United with just 10% support while the conservatives are at 39% three points behind the NDP as before Falcon is dismissing those numbers saying voters care about policies that will actually save them money Katie D roza CBC News Victoria now after the party's Rebrand BC United will have some more information for you on your voting form elections BC confirms that BC United's ballot name will include former BC Liberal Party in Brackets beside it
