hi everybody and welcome back to another episode of baseball King Collectibles today's episode is a little heartbreaking we lost two of the uh well I would say the greats Ed crle was a great met as far as the Mets goes he was one of the longtime serving Mets 18 years and James erl Jones of course the great actor he passed away as well yesterday but first I want to thank everybody for subscribing to the channel we have reached our goal of 125 subscribers all right hey next goal all had a new goal 150 is that unreasonable I'm like guess one I'm begging one subscriber at a time literally begging I'm swear to God I'm begging but you know just trying to get the into the YouTube algorithm get going whatever I think I'm making quality videos I mean I look around I watch some other videos guys I don't know what's going on out there in YouTube land but to each their own I I watch you know I like I do all that I subscribe I do all that so do that for me thank you I appreciate that and today's video is a sad one you know the Mets lost Ed crle he was a entire year 18 Seasons with the Mets can you imagine one season Nobody Does that no more back in those days you know you're under contract to the team you know they own you and most of his career any for the first uh third of his career half of his career but then he stayed with the Mets he you know contract disputes but he stayed with the Mets he was faithful to them 18 years he stayed with them can you imagine he came up as a 17-year-old kid in 1962 playing in the Polo Grounds he walks into the club there's Gil hajes there's Richie Ashburn there's Casey stingle in the manager's office I mean that's you know for a 17 year old he was just out of high school right from high school James Van Bean in the Bronx straight straight to the pole grounds in the major leagues he caught a glimpse of the 62 season and he's stuck on since every year since then think of the guys he played with and against you know his teammates he Yogi bar was a teammate Warren span was a teammate in 65 all right Willie was a teammate Duke Snider was a teammate Tom Siver of course all the 69 World Series he was in and and this guy really had a long career with the Mets through the good times and the bad I mean the bad times were real bad he was there with all the bad all the losing from 62 to 68 the Mets were just you know you go into Shay Stadium you figure you'll sweep the series it's just everybody F figured it was an easy win against the Mets always till 69 came along and it changed the you know the look everything changed in 1969 but was there and he made an All-Star team 65 he was an All-Star so give him credit for that he has the Mets game record for most games played as a met he still has that record no one surpassed that 18 seasons and he has that record and that's you know it's going to stand for a while I think no one's playing those kind of games with the same team anymore it just doesn't happen like I said he won the World Series in 1969 with the Mets he was platooning back then so he was as a left-handed hitter he he was platoon basically with um who he oh with Don kenon so don kunden of course was the World Series MVP so frano got his shot in game three and he homeed he actually you know he's he's proud of that fact he homeed in the World Series he'll never for you can't take that away from him he has a World Series home run to his record uh the 1970 came and oh boy what happened to him J in the middle of June he was hitting 15 or 117 some really look look it up some crazy number they sent him down to the minor leagues believe it or not eight years in he's already 28 years old 20 26 years old something like that established been in the league many years faced Gibson faced Kofa faced Marell faced spawn faced D can I go on and on he faced them all all right so his guy was you know he's a good hitter decent left-handed solid good first baseman good defensive finds himself in the minor leagues now and he stayed there for a good you know 50 40 50 games maybe and he brought him back up basic is a pinch hitter you could see the record he didn't he maybe 45 games and 30 you know 48 bad bats something like that just a little bit on mou gameslay so it was used primarily as a pinch hitter where he excelled he really was a good pinch hitter and 1971 came along and then he finds himself there's Mike Jorgenson there's AR Shamsky there's Don kenon and there's a crle and they all play first base so it was a it was a log Jam and he wanted to be traded really but Mets weren't trading them no he didn't have to trade you back then no they kept him at his low salary you know they weren't paying him big bucks and he was Lefty hitter Off the Bench he was really a quality player matter of fact his career with the Mets as a pench he was 90 for 375 which is like a 290 average or something like that with six homans 55 RBI not bad I mean not bad you know so he had a really good career with the Mets and like I said his num is not retired I believe he's in the Mets Hall of Fame he should be I mean he has to be I'm not a Met fan so I don't know all that but I appreciate ample matter of fact I used to run ample at card shows back in the day uh near in the 1980s after he retired he was out of baseball 79 80 was his first year the card shows that's when they were first starting to hit and there's a crano and he's got this and that he's got armfuls of stuff he's getting everything signed for free of course he's not paying and even if he paid it wasn't much back then I was you know we could all it was affordable that then $10 an autograph $6 an autograph it was crazy so anyway I'd always run into him and first time I ran into I didn't have anything to sign with me and you know say how you doing whatever from then on I started bringing that crimple cards with me to every card show I went and I was running into them at every show so here's just a couple that I have I just found real quick there's one is same same one twice twins put a little Clos nice autograph it gives you a nice signature you know the old fashioned guys give you nice signatures guys that's just the way it was so you know he was just just a really really nice guy every time you saw him like I said he was at his card shows all the time he's probably in his early 40s at not even I think he was at a baseball time with 35 so he was not even 40 years old he's at all the card shows of course and the 69 met I have him on that ball as well and I have on photographs as well as only 8 by 10 and all that I'm really a really a really big loss for the Mets Community it really is that cran poool there was a big name in Mets history and you know rest in peace he crano we we'll miss you my next guest oh James Jones passed away that's that's the uh other big name right we sorry for that loss James O Jones as we all know voice of Darth Vader that's where he famous for but was that the greatest this say have the greatest voice in the history of voices I mean you know the voice of God maybe he should be God's voice or what he had the greatest voice no no doubt about it uh he was a professional he was an actor for Tony Awards he's one Academy of War nominations global global glob Golden Globe nominations everything he's been nominated he won several I'm not sure exactly C which categories he won you know not but what a career you know really he won other than Dolph a that was a big thing yeah I'm not sure of his other movies I'm I'm sure I watched a million movies of him he was a great autograph signer um you know this guy was honored by the candidate Center by the Grammy Award he even got for writing the book the Academy Awards even honored him it's like what a career he can't you couldn't do better and he lived to 93 years old which is you know exceptional we we sign me the contract 93 I'm signing it right now okay I'll take it um great man I met him several times his his uh one of the photos U one time I met him great with autograph collectors great signature I couldn't find his actual the actual photogra I have of him but I I'll just put a picture up on the screen of it so you can see it I actually have a couple I just was too much time to go through all my stuff you know I got a lot of autographs to go through it all I don't have an alphabetized or anything like that so uh it was hard to find I was looking through it I just couldn't find it I said you know what I'll I'll just show you a picture I do have pictures of every all my autographs I have that on file so we'll show you that and you know just a great guy we'll miss him too you know he was I think he was in the was think Roots maybe too I'm not sure but I said he was in epic epic movies along the way Tony Award winner twice I W two Tony Awards you know for Broadway stage everything so rest in peace James Earl Jones another one we're going to miss you as well and guys that's all I got for you today
