The Milanista Report Episode 7: Parma FC VS. Milan Pre-Game

game today U you know we actually you know obviously Drew against um Torino last game last week um you know defensively wasn't the best game by us obviously you know we gave up those two goals but we showed that result that Milan Spirit you know um modar new signing came through with a big goal and then our boy Oka four um came in with that Banger a goal to tiee the game and we end up 2-2 that being said let's check this out make sure the stream is up fellas I don't see it up give me a second I know there it is Boom okay all right so welcome to Melisa report episode seven Parma FC versus Milan pregame show all right so I was expecting um some other people to show up today um lab gorilla and possibly Shane my other co-host from El 360 let's let's see let's see see if they pop in let's today we're playing against barma you know it's 12:30 kickoff EST we're playing away and so let's look at the lineup first right let's get this going here let's share the screen and Par so this is one predicted lineup from sofa score all right let's get this boom all right so according to sofa score looks like we'll be setting up in our usual you know formation that from has been playing the same as Pei Mike and go we have Calabria tomari looks like probably just making his first start we got Theo playing his user position uh double pivot looks like fana according to sofa score is ready to play he's he's fit and he's learned uh he's got a handle of fona system he's playing up with lost his cheeks Le p and the camroll um Chuck and jovic so I've been hearing a couple of lineups as well so let's look at another one see how that compares let's look at this one here so according to sports Gambler boom what do we got here we have um our expect the lineup is Mike Calabria tamori pich obviously like we said before Hernandez L his cheeks to Johnny uh this one makes more sense because yovic has no business being on the pitch after his last game he just walked around do a goddamn thing against Torino um and Oak for deserves that start being that morat out with that injury um you know so we got Chucky on the right pic playing that Cam and Lea on left that's a good that's not a bad lineup um obviously the issu that I have and I'll get to in a minute is the double and the center back position as well uh palas predict the lineup Suzuki the Japanese goalkeeper B Be ero deetto alesandro CTI Emanuel Valeri got this kid Noel Estes so they play a similar position uh formation 4231 is the same as us Adrien B bnab Dennis man Su s Valentine m and Ang Yona bony all right obviously um I'm not too familiar with those names very few of them um Suzuki I've heard the name before but not the other guys um let's switch back to S score and give this a quick look at this so look obviously like I said before boom formation wise par is going to be setting up that 4231 formation same as us the issu is that I have is right here our double pivot so according to uh Sports Gambler which seems to be more accurate uh it's gonna be lost his cheeks and Tani and I've heard other ones that lost his cheeks Musa obviously that's our biggest Gap right we saw the last game as well uh our midfielders didn't do anything defensively um off the ball Benny wasn't wasn't himself you know he's he's still hasn't gotten back from his injury hasn't recovered fully um you know obviously L didn't do the job either but with that being said I expect us to win this game um it's gonna be a tough game I expect you know a 2-1 win um but you know in a minute I'll get into this defensive stuff obviously what the issues are but offensively we should be able to score some goals on this team um the thing is with this team to with the Parma they like to set up their their team a little bit differently defensively I'll get that a second hold on here fellas where is it [Music] here it is got too many screens going on so Soh Palmer's coach Fabio p p um so what he likes to do defensively actually is he likes to force his opponent's wide right um he doesn't like to he likes to take away the middle of the pitch and in some cases he'll mix it up he'll go between a high press and a mid block being that he's a you know a seasoned Italian coach that you know most Italian coaches focus on the really strong defensive principles right my guess he's going to go with the mid block being that even Torino if you noticed Torino last week they stayed away from pressing up the pitch all right that's something they noticed last time as well let's stop st on the screen here hold on sorry about that all right something they noticed last time Torino that that at coach vanoli he didn't want to press Milan he lot he kind of sat back a little bit didn't well the press wasn't super super intense and it threw off the team right because they they were pressed they were that the whole buildup the whole thing behind fona buildup right from the back is to entice that press find that space right between those triangles and the spacing from the players and move the ball up the pitch find those little holes right between the Press um the Press is not like on point like like say like um Casper's press or su's press super intense super hard to break um so f p so in terms of what p is gonna do I think s to vanoli he's going to sit back a little bit and P is going to prefer to sit to defend via mid block all right and and force Milan to go wide take away the middle of the pitch and force him wide but maybe it could change it up as well it's possible being that he seems like a pretty adaptable coach knowing that that's our strongest points is we got Deo you know playing on alongside Lea and you have pic on and with playing alongside with Chucky so that being said it could happen either way they can either take away the the the the with of take away the middle of the pitch from us right or take away the width the wide areas the wide spaces and and force Milan to play through the middle so that's going to be interesting to see but my major concern is how is fga going to deal with this because we noticed last game against Torino f sea um didn't adapt very well he he was kind of surprised at way vanoli set up his team defensively and that tikit taka buildup that we we saw that was so smooth and so silky right we so impressed with a lot of fans during uh the preseason didn't work so well right kind of struggled to to really move the ball up the pitch being that vanoli didn't fall into fga straps so I'm assuming this coach Paras coach Fabio is going to do the same thing right it's going to kind of confuse f a little bit with that mid block and either force him wide or force him to the middle depending on uh but you know what he wants to take away does he want to take our Wingers away or our our Midfield attack does he want to take away Tani and you know polistic right going down and creating those chances for our our team right right cutting through the middle finding open players on the left or the right side of the pitch that being said anybody watching who's in the Stream we got four listeners right now tuned in locked in listen um give me your thoughts on today's game what do you guys think is going to happen um being that you know we had an a non the last game was so so wasn't the greatest but being this was Parma I mean Parma has a rich history right obviously in the past but they haven't been a Top Flight team in a long time so I want to get your thoughts on today's game what do you think is going to happen do you think obviously me being love loving defense right loing defensive tactics things like that is how we're going to deal with fca's um defensive setup all right being that that according to the the press conference that fra put out and I had lab gorilla he actually translated some of us cuz it was an Italian how we're going to set up for their counter being that's one thing F sea said during the pregame that he was concerned about was the Counterattack of Parma all right oh so Ray Ray thanks for joining my man for Milan um yeah so Ray asked what do you think of swapping benis with KM is it an upgrade well that's actually a pretty good question actually so right um when Benny is healthy when he's healthy right and he's playing at his you know he's in form and playing is is best for us he's our best midfielder Bar N right most complete but being that he's been hurt he I mean he was hurt last season had that pretty nasty injury and you know he hasn't been the same what's up Gio con con he's he's a destroyer I talked about him in the past um he seems like a promising player all right really physical kid much from physical then for from what what I've seen and for what the scatter reports that I've read he's like a complete Destroyer he's he's like the perfect replacement for kessie um the only thing with going he's inexperienced so that's what I'm afraid of we're gonna have if we we end up getting cor and replacing him and say we we double pivot with cor and F to be more defensive which I don't think it's going to have ever happen but let's see if that's the case then we have two inexperienced midfielders both don't start for the national their national teams Tana doesn't right um you know they're they're still young Defenders which is is good and bad on the plus side you have youth you have speed you have endurance um good track record not not being injured but on the flip side you're talking about setting up your defense with the m midfielders do you know um marshalling the other players on the field where to press with you know what players to take which Lanes to take away which passing Lanes you need more experienced midfielders for that and fana and Coney haven't shown that yet so that's the downside is the inexperience right especially if you're in a tough game against you know in or the Champions League game you need you need a a strong proven leader out there to settle everybody down defensively you know if things are not going your way and those two don't have it yet so depends how you look at it yeah from from a you know uh you side and and you know being healthier con is an upgrade but from an experience point of view con doesn't do it for me uh personally I'd like to see us go down the Italian route and I think Gio you'll be you'll agree with me as well man G I know this um why are we going after this foreign unproven players we're tied to this kid Voss from Ax Academy yeah and listen ax have developed great players over the years right with that um C system right since the C days but their their their senior team has been garbage last few season hasn't been that great I think the fans even you know bum rushed the stadium and and protest how bad they were um so we're looking at this kid floss looks like we're going to sign him for like I don't know 10 mil and supposedly the news is that he's gonna be either um he's gonna play between the futuro and the senior team this is my issue we have zeri a homegrown player who's been with us since he was a kid we have elote right yeah the kid is injured he's recovering but he's from what everybody's talked about him through the through the the the ranks through the mil Milan ranks and through Italy the kids a physical demon right a perfect parent with zeri why not give those the chance that's all I'm saying if we're looking at Money Ball and saving money and and looking not to pay you know a ton of cash but at the same time you're you're promoting your own Youth and and showing that you have there's a path to the senior team right that they're recognizing you the senior team the coaches the coaching staff an ebra etc etc give this the chance why we trying to get this thing on we trying to look at K and Vos for foreign players I mean at the same time yeah I mean it looks like Maka know kind of joking to his side he's look like he's putting a French national team together where's the Italian Corp right what happened to that you know fine collaborate doesn't forget about calab I don't calab is Italian but he's not he he hasn't earned his spot on the team um we have gabia who somehow has been forgotten by by the by the club even though he was most the most consistent most mistake like less prone to to mistakes right he's he was the most consistent intelligent defender on our team right didn't make stupid fouls consistently like tamori did was in lapses in in in judgment lapses in you know focus and somehow he's been benched we we hardly saw him during the preseason and pich who's another unproven player yeah he's a more menacing version of tamari he's but from all accounts we've heard it before from a lot of people out there he's prone to make a lot of Reckless challenges like somebody like Chad has in the past and he's getting the starting position over him yes he's left footed but if we're going to go with our two best center backs that have two different profiles right would be pavich on the left gabia on the right side because you got gabu is a playmaker he's our best passing Center Back Bar None it Test shows that the stats show it I've been I've shown that before in the past you pair those two kids those two guys up and you got height on both sides on the left side Center back position and the right side you can dominate in the air you can dominate with pavich on those One V ones you know tearing down his opponents picking up tactical fouls outside of the 18 you know a little bit further up the pitch and you got gabia with his leadership skills or his passing skills helping with that buildup that would you be a perfect Center back P for the fact that he's gab's not giv a chance we're not seeing zi not giving a chance lote [ __ ] even liberali um who was our brightest player most creative player in Milan and during the preseason we saw that Kad do he's not even being we're we're focusing on the Milan futur which is fine I don't they're trying to get into the Syria B but you got to focus on the 18 18 team is where is at your senior team give him a chance let him play behind B polistic on that that 10 roll right and then Gio um yeah prani is never given a chance um yeah I would even agree and what's up let's talk Milan thanks for joining in yeah um G another good point too I'm just going to the other chats real quick um vagy or Jimenez for right back and yo matter of fact G we got this kid um Victorio yeah mag that's the kid yeah yeah yeah spoke about in the past he was he was killing it at the unit the 9s and yet somehow he's not even being considered broughten up given a a chance let's see what he does but again we got Royale um we's see how he does when he finally gets fit I have no idea we're not you know hopefully he'll do better when he did at at at Tottenham maybe he'll be play you know able to perform better in Syria maybe the Italian way of playing might help him out style of play other than the eepl um and let's talk Milan yeah absolutely right he's another misala useless if we're still playing a 4231 so before I get into some other stuff the defensive [ __ ] the 4231 listen anybody in the chat knows this in order to play a 4231 edits that kind of formation you need those that double pivot you need two world class midfielders we don't have that you need a complete Destroyer you need somebody who's good with the ball you need to be able to cover that ground you need to be able to you know when the team has the other team is is coming down the field you able to you know feel in that that that space when from the right and left back positions those fullbacks because that's that that's the space that the teams attack the most is that that space between the the two pivots double pivots and the fullbacks all right so and those those are the most like dangerous areas to expose in a 4231 but yet we're sticking with this formation without the proper midfielders we don't have world class midfielders we were building that with in the past with tonali kessie and Benny those three rotating in but we got rid of the other two right obviously k he moved on to now be sold to to get extra to make some some cash and to buy some additional players last season that you know let's see what they do you know we still got to give him another few years and see if we can win this good at I doubt it but you know trying to stay positive but that being said this formation with the players that we have does not work um especially when it comes to your rest defense so before I get into the rest defense um yo let's talk Milan yes yeah canel too would have been great um I don't know what his cost would have been if he was out of our price range you know looks like we were stuck at that 20 mil all right sorry about that that was the life so let's get into that rest defense real quick me share the screen really quick fellas so tell me what you feel about today's game by the way want to hear your thoughts [Music] um score line where you think we're going to win this game it's G to be a tie close game because I think it's G to be a 2-1 game U we're gonna you know probably Score first I think we're going to give up a goal and then we're GNA gonna end up winning late in the game either by Oka for or somebody else maybe bistic or somebody else maybe to Johnny so let me share something else to fellas they're gonna like this again thanks for joining joining this today's pod this pregame all right appreciate it appreciate the love let's get into it let's share this all right here we go boom all right so this is our rest defense so we're we're in white right forget about the numbers pal is in yellow right so a lot of cases Palmer likes to set up they'll say to S up in a mid block today right so let's say to set up in a 433 mid block right really really tight right compact trying to take away that that wh's Whit's trying to take away the middle in this case all right we're in white we got Morata we got uh Le Chucky we got Calabria pushing up because he been doing all PR season and during the last game as well I'm not sure if it was during from F's instructions but either way he's been pushing up the pitch we attack and we have Theo obviously right and this is our two midfielders we got say lost his cheeks and we have Tani we have our two center backs we got pavich and Tor so this is two this is the two two defense which in most cases when you're playing a 42 31 this is not the best thing most coaches prefer to play three in the back they prefer to keep this right back here held back good stay say they was more dangerous offensively you don't want to take that away from him if you have a a left back that can you know be dangerous in the attack and play well with Lea so technically you would be want to set up in this formation defense 32 that provides plenty of coverage behind the ball right especially on a Counterattack once we lose the ball we have plenty of bodies back here got five players here ready to react to a Counterattack from Pala but in this case we have this 22 and what we've been seeing so far is teams taken advantage of that right during the preseason we got exploited um during even the Torino game we saw what happened when Torino finally settled in and realized they kind of adapted to the game they caught us especially on that second goal how they able to set it up they came down the pitch they played that little back heel pass right and they got this plag running in here and tan came over a little too late they hit the cross the Potter was he got this goal on the on that back post right between Theo and chia he didn't communicate very well but that play started that second go from three started from the counter because we didn't have enough bodies back and most importantly the other weakness of this 2 two rest defense is the fact that you have two midfielders either being Musa lost his cheeks or Tani in this in this K or Benny who's not fit he's not he's not the player he once was don't have the awareness especially Musa because he does find himself in these spaces all the time mus he finds himself out of position and he doesn't he he forgets how far away he is from able to back track and recover and defend he forgets his space his awareness he forgets that and you have Sani who likes to go up here as well all right he's not the best defensive midfielder either so you have that weakness cu once you have two midfielders that are not defensively strong and they're not you know don't have that positional awareness and not skin in the field to see what's happening around them and they get caught up in the offense and not reading they got to defend you don't have enough bodies now you're leaving these two center backs by themselves so say Musa comes up here he's trying to get into the attack right he's doing his thing to John here got ptic here what happens here and it's happened a couple times you have too many bodies in the attack if he's trying to overload trying to really score goals and you're leaving these two center backs alone once the ball gets lost can't even counter press very well the time Tani gets back here because these two midfielders are not the best counter pressing midfielders either all right so we can't if we don't win the ball up here what happens they could get the on the attack and boom there's a 3v2 or 4v2 so when you have a r defense set up it's important that you have two strong midfielders all right and is safe and more importantly you should be keeping three center backs back all right that's why the three back formations they like a three 43 is better because you have you could play pavich gabia tomorrow and you have a natural back three because these P will never go up here soar hard will go up here and Gabby will never go up this way this right score goals only on on set pieces on Corner kicks but that's not the case either were're playing with two in the back but if naturally most teams that play a 42 31 will set up this way three in the back so set up in a 3-2 but we're not doing that because we have collab here so that's something to look for today because according to FCA he's really concerned about this counter so if we set up with a two two rest defense that we're going to see Parma even though they're not the highest quality team they don't have the most dangerous players they're going to take advantage of this they're going to see this but like I said we've been playing as two t rest defense since the beginning of the preseason I didn't notice it too much with Pioli but I'm noticing it more with under fona so fca's guy is assistant coach Ferrara who was with Le with him um was responsible for he was the guy behind the defensive stuff right the tactics setting up the defensive team so he's doing the same thing for Milan for fona so this is his doing this is something he likes to do his is his something he's been doing for a while I guess and he prefers this 2 two rest defense and fra probably you know agrees with it and is going with it like I said this is dangerous because you don't have enough players in the back you don't have two midfielders just like let talk Milan just said they don't they have the tendenc to go forward every [ __ ] time every time Tani likes to go forward he's better as a cam in my opinion he's not a midfielder all right if you want to place him behind ballistic as a as a backup I don't care how much money he costs put him back there and you get a midfielder who knows is defensively strong maybe fana is going to fix this once he gets f but on the other side of double pivot would be Musa all his cheeks because we just got rid of Pega looks like we're trying to unload Benny Musa too likes to go up here even with fana back here see fan is here you got a two one rest defense that is [ __ ] dangerous man that is no bueno that is horrible so I'm hoping fona and his Squad for the sake of the team fix this sooner or later because against teams like inter teams like juuve teams like you know even Napoli really well coached teams with higher quality of players are going to eat us up Terina did it too and they're not the most like they're not a top team I I could see them maybe going top six or top seven this season if they're healthy they're not consider a top team and not even Pala but Pala is going to see this and they're going to score a goal on us and for sure for sure they're gonna have a lot of high quality scoring chances on us right just like last season last season we gave up a ton of high quality quity shots from open play our stats were up there with like eepl numbers I kid you not Yeah well casiro yeah well if casir was younger I'd take him cir has lost a step too G if you're still in the chat um give me a holler let me know what your thoughts on I want to hear what you have to say about zeri and elote all right because if we're going to stick with this youth movement that we keep hearing about with fona fona is great with the youth developing youth he had two young you know defensive players in at Le with yoro and um Santos um let's stick with the youth let's give you know Z Roi a chance and once aot is is is back and healthy give him a crack as well but in reality if for looking really if you want to believe what fona says that we want to win scurto that we hear the other some other people say we want to compete we got to go at least with one strong seasoned midfielder some like let's M let's talk Milan just said like somebody like Casmir experience who knows has won in big games been been in big game situations you bring them in pay a little bit more cash right go over that 20 million thr thresholds you bring them in and you put him into into the double pivot in the six in the six spot for example and you bringing another another player a younger player that he can that other you know some like C can mentor can teach him how to play that role can Marshall him the on the on the Press can teach him how to defend you know show them how to is to win in tough games little trick to the trade move their serious is willing to learn and is wants to you know work on his craft and you put him in the other spot and there you go if you have that kind of Midfield right just like let's talk Milan let's talk Milan just said maintain their position then we can start talking about competing with inter like seriously pushing for them because offensively we have the players no doubt I mean once Morata gets back I mean we can compete can we beat them no not yet because they're they're still two stacked I mean Christ they got tmy they got um Laro they got three high quality Strikers they have the best Midfield in Italy Italy they still have bastoni a sery who's a little bit old you know yeah Bic who's who's got a tough ton of qu ton of upside to him even though he made a mistake last week and they're looking to improve um they're still the best team so if we're looking really to compete with them and close that Gap and not finish 20 15 12 points behind them and finish second or third place and really push for them push push push we need two midfielders that know how to maintain their position defensively on that rest defense because we got midfielders like I said we got midfielders doing whatever the [ __ ] they want they're going up going here going there going this way you're leaving these two center backs alone you got just two in the back you're getting hosed every single time you're going to get countered you're going to either get scored on or the be shots on goal high quality bangers against Mike time and time again and Mike can't stop everything yeah let's talk Milan exactly uh it comes down to the priority the owners management have um and from our looks my understanding my my perspective is that um their priority is finan is finances is is making money but not you can make money too obviously by winning too my Traders showed that right if you focus on the sporting side of things and you focus on winning trophies winning champions league you can make a ton of money from that too because people love winners all right that's why Madrid I know from in my case in United States so many kids wear Madrid jerseys and they you know even to this day they're wearing old the jerseys from Madrid not even current players but they know them they they play them on FIFA because they win trophies so it could be done but it looks like red bird is more focused on the business side maintaining the books all right building the brand in the US obviously all right what we're seeing with the commercials and linking up with speed and and and and the rappers and stuff like that the hip-hop artists but um yeah you know if that's the case listen we'll be in for you know top four for the next few seasons which for me personally I'm not happy with it um because at the end of that one our team to get back to what it was back to com like competing for that SC year in and year out putting the best team out there possible building that Italian Corp all right that's important as well I'm not saying we should get all Italian players but [ __ ] give me you know one or two two top world class Italian players on the team two just two you know or get me two up and upand cominging super talented Italian players that are eventually going to make it to the national team and I've said it before coyote from fantina if we don't trust our own Academy players it looks like we don't looks like we think they're not ready to to to make the jump which is stupid in my opinion because you have look at yamal and gasi young kids starting for for big clubs in Spain making an impact all right you got kids from Brazil these young kids they're they're making their ways into Europe starting positions you got the kid Pez Kendy Pez um esto Williams from palmares he's making a jump to Europe soon if andri you know from from from ARS as well at at Real Madrid you know show me something show me that you want to win that you mean it but I don't want to focus on that much let's focus back on today's game um so keep an eye for this thing today especially the rest defense versus P see how we're set up you know especially where we're in the attack take just look at how many attackers we have up the pitch right on that final third and how many players we have behind the ball all right unless they change something I don't know we'll keep an eye on that you're going to see this setup you're gonna see a two two rest defense and you're gonna see Palma take advantage of that because once they lose we we once they retain the ball back our counter press is not the best it's garbage because you have we don't counter press very well because the midfielders don't have that ability Lea is lazy as hell once we lose the ball Leo is going to sit here and [ __ ] s and not do anything try to get the ball back if you can't have every player trying to defend that [ __ ] won't work the counter press won't work or the full press is not going to work once they have the ball here you know once they're they're building up from the back yeah fani knows about football as as I know about Finance exactly so let's the last one three lost two drawn five the average of 2.3 goals F Sea's team average this is pretty similar to pii 59.7 possession that's simil to POI um conceding 1.8 goals from 11.9 attempts and five point shots on goal so there's a strong side case of siding with underdogs par at plus 75 W the Asian handicap odds of 1.98 looks like a value for the Seri clash and stest that return can be on the cards there's an option to wag on Parma Triumph by specific number of goals to the winning margin Market this off attractive Asian handicap alternative yeah so Parma got 05 point 75 probability according to latest spinning odds our pick has a 50.5 chance of winning so man they got so some of these people gamblers these these betting sites at Parma giving him really good odds of winning and that's my point I was trying to make before this is not easy game all because of our defense if our defense was more solid right if we had a more solid defense didn't didn't go to a two2 res defense had two midfielders that know how to maintain their position defensively you know we're in out of position all the goddamn time these odds would be more in our favor we wouldn't be having these problems against against teams like Pala Torino um all well coached teams they are well coached so Milan I'll say this I love this team to death I hope they win today I hope we have a good season you know I want us to compete that being said defensively things need to shape up all right F needs to get a better grasp of things all right because even with fana fana is not the answer f is a good addition to the club he's not a a world class midfielder all right supposedly in that 4231 formation he's not if he's got somebody else with him he be it l his cheeks Musa whoever tanni they're gonna he's gonna be doing extra work for them because if he's the only one maintaining a position and the other other midfielder is doing whatever the hell they want and they're moving up the field and get into the attack in the final third he's left by himself trying to cover that ground you know and he has his two center backs behind him and even then we when we we go back and recover and maintain our get our shape back our structure back defensively right then he's the only one that can really cover those gaps between you know behind him and the fullback right because the fullback is pinned in be the Wingers he's the only one that's be able to you know double up on the Winger if need to then once that the Winger gets past them you know which is fine then you you got the full back covering him pinned him he's he's doing his job then you got fonic recovering back to his original position and looking for those third man runs that's what another thing Pala does is get those third man runs into the box for those cut backs but if he's the only one doing that and the other midfielder is out of position not recovering not marking not helping out all right not looking not not taking on players that are making runs into the box for well it's it's not g we still going to have issue we still going to have a lot of scoring opportunities against this um you know it's G to be the same thing as PE last season so I I really hope these things get addressed early on in the season either by maybe change of formation go with three in the back go with like a 343 something change it up this the long run this formation is not going to work it might squeak us some couple of wins against some smaller clubs just by our our you know our one our you know our star players like Theo like Le out fistic when he wants to be world class too not world class but our best players are star players on the club this bistic is not he's not world class yet he's not even up there you know like I you know even though I'm I'm a born and raised in the United States I support the national team he's not world class but if these things get addressed and we make those changes and we're going to be all right but if we continue down this 42 31 it's going to be a long season you know it's going to be a battle right top four for sure but that that sco is going to be out of our it's not going to be even in our in
