We are learning more about a fire that destroyed a six unit apartment building in Jay late last night. Good evening everyone. I'm Amanda Hill in for Zach Blanchard. We've learned three firefighters suffered minor injuries, putting out the flames and several pets were killed in that fire. Fortunately, the 10 tenants inside the building did make it out but now they are without homes leaving the community to offer what help they can. Our Donovan Lynch reports on Jewel Street in J the precious things and the ordinary reduced to rubble in just hours. Now, a community rushes to help. He got up this morning um and started rallying to get some stuff together just down the street from the ruins of a fire that displaced 10 people and injured three firefighter clothes and soap are already piling up at Gigi's Pizzarro, a local joint owned by Erica Poland and it's devastating to see the damage that was done to that building. Seeing the images of the violent flames. Poland sprang into action, setting up a makeshift donation hub and offering free food to those impacted. Um We can drag this out for months if the victims need it already. The help is flooding in, made possible by locals who just want to do the right thing. Figured these guys, they need help. They lost everything. James Cody stopped by to give food and clothes an act of service in a community he knows will be hard hit from this tragedy. Small town, not a lot of jobs. So I'm, I'm sure they're hurting and well, those here know what was lost can never fully be replaced. There's a shared feeling that this small town in Franklin County still has something to offer. It feels wonderful to see uh everybody rally together to help these families in J Donovan Lynch, New Center Maine. The state fire marshal's office is still investigating what caused that fire.
