JOSH BROLIN IS HAL JORDAN? DESPERATE DCU BREAKING THE AGE RULE! | REEL SHIFT

we're just a couple of days removed from my previous video on the DCU that seemed to ruffle a few feathers after years on this platform it's still absolutely amazing to me how many people will watch a video and completely miss the point of it mostly because they've been programmed to react to everything emotionally rather than thinking I just want everyone to acknowledge that I tried to play nice and the trolls just wouldn't allow it apparently you can't even ask questions about the DCU without someone getting butt hurt over it so naturally it's time to double down and P these people off a little bit more because we now have yet another piece of potential news about an upcoming DCU project let's discuss I watch so you don't have to all I'm offering is the truth nothing more ladies gentlemen and shills the DCU is slowly starting to take shape and now we have a possible casting rumor floating around on social media that I thought was notable enough to talk about I'm going to reiterate that this rumor needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt at this time at least until the chronically online head of this studio confirms it himself I I understood that reference Nexus point news is reporting that Josh Brolin has reportedly been offered the role of Hal Jordan which is one of two leads in the upcoming HBO series lanterns the series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern Legend Hal Jordan two Intergalactic cops drawn into a dark earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American Heartland now I'm going to be honest with you the thought of a Green Lantern buddy cop series or movie has always been intriguing to me there have been rumors of such a project being in the works at WB for years now even before the DCU reboot was a thing but I do think that there is a lot of potential with a concept like that if you couple that with the fact that people like Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof are involved I wouldn't say that each of those individuals has a Flawless record it's more hit or miss but they are responsible for Ozark and the leftovers respectively and I did find a lot of enjoyment in both of those shows lindeloff was of course involved with the failed Watchmen Series so his involvement could kind of go either way I have a bad feeling about this the first thing that jumped out to me about this synopsis is that they are investigating a murder in the American Heartland on Earth which to me kind of sounds like a strange setting when we're talking about reintroducing everyone to this Galactic space force now I understand that they are the Green Lanterns of Earth and I understand that a modest budget will not allow this story to go Planet jumping I mean WB is proven to be broke after all so this does feel a little bit like them trying to have their cake and eat it too but setting it mostly on Earth does make it considerably less interesting to me that being said if they could nail the murder mystery aspect of it and mix in some superpowers this could still work so you're telling me there's a chance I will say of all the DCU projects announced so far this is the only one that has me the least bit intrigued the problem is and will always be that this project is under the WB banner and no one should have confidence in them successfully launching another Cinematic Universe when they've already proven that they are horrible at doing just that I say again elor's Tales or one-offs was the way to go for DC but WB found it more important to be the MCU 2.0 than establishing their own thing you're pathetically predictable as far as the Josh Brolin news is concerned listen I love Josh Brolin I think he's a great actor and under normal circumstances I would not criticize his inclusion in anything but his potential casting in this project does raise a lot of questions and the last thing DC needs right now is more questions first off I can't help but feel like the only reason they want Josh broland to begin with is because he was notably a part of other comic book adaptations Jonah Hex which everyone tries to forget cable which some people try to forget and of course Thanos which almost nobody is going to forget but a lot of the casting choices for the DC you so far seem very reactionary to me a lot of them come across as the studio desperately trying to appease online fan castings rather than picking the right person for the role based on what you are trying to create now Brolin wouldn't fit into that category because I don't think anyone was fancasting him as Hal Jordan and there's a reason for that I just don't get how Jordan vibes from Josh Brolin now I'm not saying that he can't do it I think Josh broland could definitely pull off a mentor type character which is what he will be playing in this series but howold Jordan wouldn't be the first character that I think of not impressed if I told you that Josh broland was being pursued to play an older grizzled version of Batman that would probably make more sense which brings me to my next point that being the topic of Josh Brolin's age I can't help but get mixed signals as it pertains to the direction of the DCU I mean we're told that it's a reboot and that it's starting from scratch yet with every announcement it sounds like we are being dropped in the middle of an already established Universe I mean think about the amount of characters who are going to appear in Superman's first movie alone it doesn't sound like them building an entire universe from the ground up it sounds like them once again rushing to keep up with Marvel the more things change the more they stay the same plus we were told that the reason that Henry caval could no longer be Superman was that they wanted to go younger which would be understandable if your goal was to have a clean slate and a brand new world to establish but you can't say that Henry caval is too old in one breath and then hire a 56-year-old Josh Brolin to be the Cornerstone of your franchise in the next breath it just doesn't make a ton of sense now the obvious answer to this is that Josh Brolin's how Jordan will not be in many projects after this series and the whole thing will basically be a passing of the torch situation so John Stewart can be the main Green Lantern in the DCU moving forward again in a normal situation that might work but the passing of the torch rarely Works in modern Hollywood when the OG character has years of character Arc and story under their belt how's it going to be as effective when the audience doesn't have that same relationship with this version of how Jordan I don't get it I don't know if introducing him and then writing him off so quickly is the right move when it comes to such a beloved character again their goal should be to win people's trust back to gain back the audience that they lost the only way that I could see this working is if they take the Men in Black approach with Brolin's how Jordan basically being the equivalent of Tommy Lee Jones k but again if you are going to include Hal Jordan in that way in a limited capacity then you are going to have to make the most of his screen time bottom line I can't help but feel like this is another strange casting decision and a long list of strange casting decisions for the DCU I would say this is the least egregious considering the pedigree of someone like Josh broland but pedigree and talent means absolutely nothing if you are saddled with a dog script in a universe verse that is already messy I'm willing to wait and see how it all turns out but as I said in my previous video the DCU reboot is facing an uphill battle with very little room for error because of an already fractured fan base because the first sign of failure or unrest could lead to a very reactionary WB doing what WB does and pulling the plug on the DCU before it has an opportunity to establish itself y be cool on
