e hello thanks e e e e good Thursday morning I'm B is Trevor burett on this weather impact day you see the impact outside right now Heavy Rain high wind gust as the remnants of hurricane Francine start to move into the Midsouth here's the latest radar right now rain spreading across the Midsouth if you're not seeing rain yet you will be soon Dyersburg just about the only dry spot but all that rain continuing to move off to the north we have been seeing some heavier bands of rain and that's a possibility through the day that yellow band there that's where a heavier downpour is setting up right through Millington Shelby Forest over toward turle Arkansas that came through Memphis earlier already has dumped about an inch of rain and we are going to have the chance to see more of those Heavy Rain bands through the day today a lot of this rain will be light but there will be times that it'll pick up a little bit could add up to 2 to five Ines of rain today and tonight wind gust will also pick up as we go later into the day and into the night so rain pretty much all day gust already up to about 20 or 25 miles an hour but they'll just get higher through the day up to 40 or 45 mph already a few thousand folks without power in Shelby County that'll likely get worse through the day let's get a quick check of your roadways right now it's already a busy morning several crashes everything is very slow right now because of that wet and rainy morning commute a crash on Walnut groven farm this morning also a crash right off of Sycamore View and Interstate 40 speaking of Interstate 40 it's pretty slow this morning a crash coming in at Whitten Road traffic just at a crawl passing up Whitten coming into to the flyover right now another crash 240 Westbound at Lamar give yourself plenty of extra time this morning you will need it and of course slow down pay attention on those roadways all right we are continuing our extended coverage now on our ABC 24 plus app that uh little update was for television we're going to continue our update here live though as Francine is cont continuing to roll into the Midsouth I will have your Facebook comments pulled up so whatever you're seeing in your neighborhood we would love to hear about it and of course I can pass your reports along let me make sure I get those comments pulled up right now uh make sure I can see what everybody's checking in with here again let me know where you're watching from what neighborhood uh you're in and what you're seeing right now and I'll leave those comments pulled up right here again here's the latest radar I'm going to go a little bit more in depth with it now uh this is kind of the outer edge of Hurricane Francine it's now a tropical dep depression it's weakened to a tropical storm now down to a depression but still plenty of rain plenty of wind coming in too a lot of this today will be lighter rain but as we've already seen there have been some pockets of heavier downpours rolling into parts of the mids South let me put a pause on this radar we'll zoom in a little bit to the Metro because we're seeing one of those heavier rain bands right now uh from out near Arlington Braden Mason right through Millington Shelby Forest over toward Northern Kinton County where those yellows are showing up on the r rad that's where we're seeing very heavy rain and anytime the rain picks up today the wind is going to pick up with it so it's not going to be Heavy Rain high wind all day there will be times where the rain will pick up and the wind will pick up and then like we're seeing right now in Memphis the rain will calm down a little bit it'll still be light rain but again there will be times it could get a little bit heavier out there I want to show you what's interesting though I want to look at the rainfall for the last 6 hours it really started raining in Memphis by around 6:00 a.m. that's when the heaviest of the rain started to move in so really 2 hours it's been raining I can actually show you the rain for the last three hours it'll be pretty much the same thing and that one band of rainfall in Memphis has already brought over an inch of rain uh to the metro area out near Hickory Hill seeing rainfall totals of an inch and a half already again that's out near Hickory Hill as you look toward Cordova about an inch of rain there much of the Memphis Metro seeing over a half an inch to an inch already and that's just within the last 2 hours as Francine starts to move in I expect that it's going to continue to rain through the day today into tonight maybe some showers into tomorrow morning so that's why we're a little bit more concerned about the heavy rain and the flooding potential we've already seen some flooded streets out there I want to take a look at this camera here I'm not sure which one it is uh this is over in Arkansas I40 near West Memphis uh again some of the lighter rain coming in now but you see the road are wet and it's still kind of gloomy and nasty outside that is going to continue through the day but again there could be times where the rain picks up a little bit with some of those outer bands continuing to roll through uh let's go back out to uh a wider view of Francine now just kind of give you an idea of uh what's happening around the South because again it's not just us uh that's dealing with Francine it's all across the southeast so this is kind of a wider view we're going to take now zoom out a a little bit and get an idea of what's Happening across the southeast really from Arkansas all the way through Mississippi over to Alabama Georgia Florida they're all seeing rain from Francine and this really shows you how we're just on the outer edge of it we have a lot more rain to get through at least 12 to 15 more hours of steady rain notice that heavy rain down toward Jackson that's going to continue to move to the north today and and it's some of that that's going to make it up to Memphis once this gets here this will probably be the heaviest rain and the highest wind that's probably going to be around two or three today again it's in Jackson right now so it's got some time to get up to Memphis it's only moving at 12 miles an hour but that's the area we're going to watch down toward the center of the storm uh that I expect the highest wind gust and the heavy rainfall I'll actually show you our forecast model through the rest of the day today just to give you an idea of what's going on here again right now we have some heavier gusts heavier rain bands already pushing through that's going to continue through this morning here's 10:00 Heavy Rain across the Midsouth there's that core that center of the storm we were just talking about uh down near Jackson right now that's going to make it up to us by 2: or 300 p.m. so that's when the rain is really going to pick up I expect a couple of inches of rain just in a short period of time between 2: p.m. and 400 p.m. high wind gusts 30 40 mil an hour could lead to some power outages and again that rain continues through dinnertime and even into tonight now notice once the Sun sun sets the rain slacks off a little bit it's not going to be as heavy as it will be today once we get to tonight but there will still be some light showers even into tomorrow as we wake up Friday it'll be very light rain but some showers kind of on the back side of Francine will continue for a good portion of Friday morning I do want to check in here uh for just a minute and I want to see what's going on with our power outages let's see if that's the right source that is not let's try this one uh and then this will be a look at your power outages again already 3,000 folks without power in Shelby County we're seeing sporadic power outages down in North Mississippi Benton Marshall Penola Lafayette even Lee County Arkansas reporting some outages we had about a thousand in doto County earlier seems like those have already been fixed but again already about 3,000 MLGW customers without power in Shelby County and the winds uh have not even really picked up yet uh let's see if we can check in on those current wind gusts to just give you an idea of uh what's happening outside right now the winds are Gusty but they're just going to get gustier through the day again gust right now 22 miles an hour in Corinth and Truman everybody else probably gusting uh to 10 or 15 miles an hour what we'll do is just kind of March through our wind gust through the rest of the day again right now gust not bad 15 to 20 mil an hour as we go through the day as again the center of that storm gets a little closer by dinner time once the Heavy Rain picks up that's when our gust could get up to 30 35 40 45 mph and if we're already having power outage issues at 20 mph once we get to 30 or 40 I expect more branches limbs to get knocked around maybe some old trees uh coming down that could lead to more and more power outages and those winds will remain pretty high through the night tonight I do remind you if you're watching on Facebook we're streaming everywhere right now ABC 24 plus you can get that on Roku Fire TV Apple TV your iPhone Android we live stream pretty much everywhere we're also on Facebook and YouTube I have the Facebook comments up so if you have any questions about the storm or you just want to let us know what's happening in your neighborhood shoot us a comment on Facebook I do have those pulled up I would love to hear from you and pass along uh your report now something interesting right now is that we are in such a bad drought we've been talking about this for a while now this is the updated drought monitor severe drought in Shelby Tipton County into West Tennessee very bad drought in North Mississippi and extreme drought down near Batesville so this is going to help to knock a lot of that out you talk about 3 to 5 Ines that's going to get rid of a lot of this drought it's going to help our River levels a little bit which is good the bad news is this is coming at a time when so many farmers are harvesting uh so I know a lot of folks in Arkansas I've got some friends over there that are farming they're trying to get as much stuff up out of the ground as possible uh before the rain has come in so the last few days have been very busy for them so kind of a catch 22 here the rain will help the drought but it's coming at a bad time as farmers are trying to harvest as much as they can let's take you back to the radar just kind of give you an idea of what's going on a little bit closer to home we had landfall yesterday in Louisiana was a category 2 storm some pretty rough rain and wind down in Louisiana just a little bit ago uh that started to move out of Louisiana but again now it's coming in toward Memphis we've got that Heavy Rain band pushing through Northern Shelby County that's where the the rain is really really coming down we'll Zoom back in on that just a little bit and get a better idea of what's going on down here uh closer to street level again right here is Millington this is the Millington uh Naval Air Station where that radar is coming out of so anywhere from Millington over to Shelby Forest across the river that's where that heaviest band of rain is setting up and that's going to continue kind of set up over that same area so flooding definitely a concern there would not be surprised to see some flooding there and it's still raining in Memphis where we had that heaviest rain band push through uh we're likely going to see more heavy rain continue off and on through the day today again it's not going to be pouring rain all day long there will be times like right now the rain lets up a little bit it's a little bit on the lighter side but there's also going to be times especially this afternoon where that rain and wind is really going to pick up so just to kind of give you the recap of what's happening again these are the remnants of Hurricane Francine now it's a tropical depression it's going to continue to weaken as it moves Inland but we're still going to see heavy rain and high wind gusts 2 to 5 Ines of rain likely through the day today maybe some lighter rain tonight I think most of that 2 to 5 Ines will fall during the day today wind gust 35 to 45 miles an hour not out of the question later today that's when we're going to start to see power outages become more and more of a concern I will get you a look at the 7-day forecast before we sign off again we wanted to do just a little bit of an extended update on our ABC 24 plus platform today is a weather impact day we're calling it that because of the high wind The Heavy Rain that could lead to flooding and maybe even power outages through the day today just going to kind of be a yucky nasty day hope you don't have any outdoor plans because uh they're pretty much going to be ruined tonight and tomorrow the heaviest rain will slack off a little bit it's still going to rain a little bit tomorrow it's going to be lighter rain and it's going to be more off and on looks to me like a lot of that might try to taper off by dinner time tomorrow so for Friday Night Football aside from the field being a muddy mess hopefully you have turf uh we will likely see the rain start to taper off Friday night and of course it's a big weekend in Memphis Saturday and Sunday uh very busy Saturday especially we have the Southern Heritage Classic and Cooper Young Fest on Saturday there is a slight chance of rain kind of on the back end of Francine the storm's going to continue to move away but there could still be a couple of showers on the back end Saturday and Sunday it does look to me like most of the weekend will be dry I would not cancel any plans Saturday or Sunday just be aware a little bit of light rain off and on possible for Saturday and Sunday not going to be like what we're seeing today but some light rain for Saturday Sunday maybe even a shower or two as we look ahead to Monday but by Tuesday and Wednesday that rain clears on out of here we'll see the sunshine return with high temperatures in the mid to Upper 80s so again no uh questions coming in right now so it seems like the forecast has been pretty well explained we're going to continue to track this through the day what's left of hurricane Francine moving through the mids south bottom line Heavy Rain could lead to flooding 2 to 5 inches of rain and high wind gust especially this afternoon could be up to 45 mes an hour power outages possible and anything on your back porch That's not secure think about your hummingbird feeders your potted plants probably want to bring those inside because they'll be blown around just a little bit I have updates all day long on my Facebook page just search Trevor berett abc4 we're also going to be back here live on air at about 8:27 during Good Morning America with an update if you missed that we're also going to be live wherever you're streaming us for our midday newscast at 11:00 a.m. with a full update have a good day stay safe and stay
