September 11th 2001 is a day the entire world will never forget the United States suffered a terrorist attack that claimed the lies of approximately 2900 people 360 of them happen to be First Responders according to the BBC 23 years later the Lexington Fraternal Order of firefighters is here at Kroger field with community members to honor the lives that were lost participants and viewers gathered in Kroger field for the 911 memorial stair climb the Lexington fraternal order of firefighters has been holding the climb for the past 12 years and Lieutenant Chris McFarland with the Lexington fire department expresses gratitude to all that have made the climb successful for yet another year so the stair climb here in lexon we've been doing it for several years now three years here at UK at Kroger field the uh lexon combat challenge team it's our firefighter team that goes around and competes doing firefighter skills they've kind of taken it as one of their personal goals to make sure that we every year along with the help of LPD uh the city from young to old families and friends turn the hours into memories made fire and police commands RC's High School sports teams and community members gathered at kerfield on the evening of September 11th for the annual stair climb one of the participants 52-year-old Christa great house feels passionate about this climb and the tribute that it serves well obviously it's a it's a try to make things a little bit heavier right we know that the firefighters when they are climbing those stairs at the twin towers and really anywhere that they're working they have a lot of gear on so we us you know regular people will never truly be able to mimic that unless we have that same gear but it is an effort and somewhat try to pay tribute to obviously what they did and what they have to go through on a daily basis with their gear to learn more about the annual stair climb you can check out the lexingon Fraternal Order firefighters.org or for more of the story you can check out the Kentucky colel website this is Gabriella Mercedes reporting for the Kentucky colel
