the Los Angeles Coliseum once home to the Olympic Games and many of the most memorable Moments in Sports and also home to the USC Trojans who are prepared to fight on once again today today a top 25 matchup on hand to a college football's Premier teams preparing to square off as we'll see the number 13 team in the country the LSU Tigers taking on the 20 fifth ranked team in the land the USC Trojans for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth by David Po and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Music] [Applause] started and the Trojans will kick it away first he'll bring it back from inside his five and the coverage team able to make the tackle will take over the Tigers will be in a hole thanks to that short return and there's a man who believes he is always open he carries that swag and that aura of a big time playmaker guys he's got to catch the football if you're the quarterback coming into this one you are looking for this guy early and David you're looking for him off and this offense better find ways to feature him find him like you said Jesse early often deep shallow get this man the football this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys from the gun they'll try the middle able to pick up a couple before he's dragged down at the 19 the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out of the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys grabbed over the middle it's Williams makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground you see this more and more in college football motion the running back out of the back field what am I looking for I'm looking to see if it's man coverage does a linebacker go and chase him if he does guess what I get to do take advantage of my matchup I like my speed better than yours leaves it with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man A lot of times when you glitch that linebacker it's about timing you don't show your hand and he gets up to the line of scrimmage gets right through the line makes the tackle for and as soon as the running back gets the football he's got a face full of linebacker not much you can do there like you got to have a little better block you got to identify by that Blitz a little bit faster by the offensive line the pitch Powers through the defender and the fourth option there is to throw it in reverse and that's what happened on that one listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive if he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play safe completion on the screen at the 35 he's got room they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some range for their running back the tigers are flying down the field he'll do it himself and the defense finally makes the stop after the sweet run and good gain well that looked like that was going to be a great play on defense they had tremendous penetration up front they were able to gobble up the running back but the quarterback made a better decision a quick decision to pull that football and go take off LSU getting set on First and 10 the give out of the gun and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and living his carries picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down the give is to Williams running to Green gets him down at the 30 after a 15yd pickup they are threatening and they have a first down that's a really nice run one thing I love about him is he's got versatility reminds me of a guy I used to play against back in the day Kevin faul he could catch the ball he could run the ball he could block he returned kicks he did everything for the LSU Tigers and this guy he's got that ability too so many different a shot toward the end zone and that ball was In Harm's Way and he is lucky to get that one back well the offense trying to take a shot and get aggressive down field that's one the defense just has to come up with an opportunity to make the interception in the end zone not going to get a lot of chances like that this crowd bringing the energy and noise early back to throw it's nus Meyer fires to the right and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming well the quarterback knew he wanted to go to his tight end on that play he's a big physical Target but it was the hit on the play that forced the incompletion they were on the move but two straight incompletions had them staring at third and 10 from the gun wants to pass fires to the right rolls it in gets out of bounds after the big game but they've got it first and goal and the defense has to be kicking themselves for allowing a first down there you're just maybe going to give them a few yards and let them set up for a field goal instead you let them move the chains and now they're knocking on your door first and goal this offense trying to quieten the crowd on first and goal and they are not cooperating they get him down after a four yd gain to the six brings [Applause] up these fans raising the volume on second and goal he'll run it to the middle looking for the End Zone he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too get the quarterback on the move and here's a thing if I get close and I get stopped it's Fourth Down fourth down means go for it that's all that means now today in college football on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down they've decided to try to go for the field goal here from the left hash and this distance ought to make that angle pretty easy to handle and that is no good kicker couldn't quite get it through and the scoreboard Remains the Same you can't miss opportunities like that you're playing on the road in a hostile environment you're trying to seize momentum right out of the gate you get a nice drive to start the game and then you miss the field goal you don't get any points to show for that if they're going to win this one guys they've got to take advantage of those types of opportunities line gets set first down he'll p P it on the [Applause] read at the 21 yd L second down com and on second down for this offense back to throw it's Moss he hurls one deep down the left side and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down but third Down's coming up DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass incomplete they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here third and long and he'll try to throw for it oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play the Trojans line up to punt it away they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at a higher level and the Tigers want to crank the tempo he's looking to throw it got it in the middle it's Williams and they pick up just a few on that completion this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile bat now here on second down see if they keep tossing it [Applause] around the play action fake finds his tight end I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his r out run he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots in zones you got to get him involved better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down looking downfield it's nus Meer looking to take a shot and he's got it inside the tag and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown by you Bengals and let go one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch and if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the final 41 yds covered by that touchdown strike the kickoff unit about to go to work 3 set to KI this one away and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable at that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their [Applause] heels got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four [Music] guys LSU has the lead here one period in the books and let's take a look at the stats [Music] L heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the [Applause] second off the bootleg wants to toss it using the quick game they'll Mark him down at the 37 it's a 10yd gain trojes getting it done through the air picking up the first down and they always got one of these big arm sucker that can sling the ball down the field you think about USC that's what I always think about quarterbacks Playmakers Hollywood Heisman he'll come out throwing on first down fires to the tight end and and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do and now on second down for this offense from the shotgun the inside give really nice stop there from this senior leader and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 all right nothing flashy there he just did what it took to get the first down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and the Trojans look to keep this drive humming going up top on first down grab behind the line it's Branch the pass on first down caugh by the receiver no gain on the play second down going up this offense has a second down play to the air it's Moss gets it out fast really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down I tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took the steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the Trojans will have it first and 10 the give to the back a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop that's a really nice play it's impressive R it's first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back solid pick up of four on first down it's second second and six here's the handoff he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three great job a contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic and that's exactly what happened there a third and long coming up here moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand On Target over the middle good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the C well look that wasn't a touchdown that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression the give to the back got some room enter to the goal line and he's loose and he'll take it to the house touchdown Southern C anytime you've got a successful Run play on the ground you've got to have great blocking up front the offensive line receivers everybody doing their job and that helped lead to the Home Run [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they'll try to attack one more on their score splits the upright they March 79 yds on the drive and the finisher came on a terrific 24 yd run to the house all tied up from just about set to kick it away he'll bring it back looking for help and the returner goes down LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got a score Point statement but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about halfway there on first down it's second and five he leaves it with his back breaks the tackle just enough there to get it to the 25 and pick up of two and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game fights off a Defender really nice job to get it past the sticks pick up the first down at the 30 I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs stopped after a pick up of four good run to get it out to the 34 nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so you're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up after the productive first down play it's second and six the handoff as they run the counter play here just a solid stop by this sophomore and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down dropping back it's nus Meer we'll take a quick break as we have reached the final two minutes of the first [Applause] half LSU will bring the punt team on the [Applause] field on the move it's brt he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work this could be a real turning point in the game they scored a touchdown they got a stop and now a chance to break the tie yeah this offense has got it cooking man and how about the defense great job getting that stop getting the football right back to the hot hand now this offense pal has a chance to take the Le you can see the offense too they understand the situation right now they were Jones on the sidelines to get another opportunity to run back on the field they are ready to drive this ball and go score he wants to throw just a short pass from the tight end and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one well we knew coming into this one the tight end was a big part of this offense and you've seen it early in this game they've moved him around they've thrown it to him in a lot of different ways defense is going to have to make some adjustments trying to stop this [Applause] guy quarterback wants to throw on second down fires into traffic intercepted taking it the other way at the 30 he's at the 10 touchdown LSU how about that D coming up with a play like that number the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother ready to try the point after for the extra point and the extra point is true and they're on top by [Applause] seven that makes the score for LSU 14 USC s they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field they're trying to get to it a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half the defense coming up big there and the sack is great but the secondary deserves some credit too no doubt when you can cover like that in the secondary and drop back in your Zone and only Rush a few and you feel comfortable getting home and they're going to get to the quarterback that is a great feeling and that's fun to be a defensive coordinator calling play just got to finish the play for the wide receiver you got to look that one in and complete it that's a bad drop not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 running back searching for a hole find to crease at the 20 well it's a great individual effort by the running back on that last play it's third and forever he tried to get his team the first down not enough let's see what they do on [Applause] Fourth and the Trojans will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field they'll come out on this drive and let it rip makes the grab it's Williams He Stopped just a chain link or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here and an empty Back Field here on second and short he's looking to throw fires to the wide out all kinds of room to throw that one in there offense on the move a big play there gets it to the 30 wow the quarterback knew he had to get that one to his receiver quickly on the in R did you see the velocity on that throw now on first down from the 30 wants to throw it's nus me going to throw it to the right he's got his man and he'll run it into the end zone touchdown LSU C schol look it's still early but we have some real distance being put on the scoreboard right now you do it's early but you got to find something positive right now everything going in the other direction so how are you going to respond when you've been hitting the mouth early in this football game got to find something positive [Music] quick he'll try to tack on one more on for the extra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they finish it up with the final 30 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass they're just about ready to kick it away set a kick off he'll bring it out it's Branch didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much comp nothing but green ahead and he's brought down after a huge completion we got a time out here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break they used the chunk play to cross Midfield and they've got it first and 10 just outside the 40 got it in the middle it's branch and he broke one power on the way to a solid pick up there the offense Burns its third and final timeout of the half it's a nice job running the in route there by the receiver and the best thing he did after he made his break he didn't Trail and fade away he actually attacked the football that's a good lesson for young receivers out there watching he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play nice job by the QB receiver on this play in a two-minute situation going to work the boundary get the first down and get the ball out of B great situational awareness time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half to the air it's Moss pressure coming and he'll Chuck it into the chief seats there and save the down nobody getting open there got to give the defense a lot of credit man cuz they've come into this hostile environment and they've quieted the crowd down with some of the plays they're making they've got a nice lead right here and they're making it hard for this quarterback to go to and here on second down they'll send out the field goal unit to try to get three before the break never a doubt right down the middle that makes the LC [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside the 10 here he comes he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 and holding on to the lead the offense will simply take a knee and that's how we will wrap up the first half we' played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update man we've been looking forward to this one all week a fun start to things in LA and the story of the half has been that Elite Corner we were told he was tough to throw against he's basically taken away an entire side of the field when he's out there causing turnovers and getting physical how often do we say that about lockdown guys and how this offense schemes against him in this second half will be fun to watch and with that let's send it back to our men inside the world famous LA [Music] Coliseum LSU will put foot to leather to start the second half on the move from inside is five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field starting this third quarter on the ground he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expected run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a loss after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and [Applause] 12 right back to the well into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubble and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell the Trojans moving quickly to the [Applause] line back to throw it's moth On The Run fires downfield tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down from the big pickup and they just want to give this guy a chance to make a play on third down and more times than not he is going to deliver he's so good so efficient such a good route Runner got the speed got the complete game so you definitely want to highlight him and especially on those Downs that matter the most if something's not open Quick underneath find him he'll make those contested catches looking to move it through the air pulls it in it's Branch they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of of the slot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays off play action fires left he makes a catch rustled to the ground after picking up the first down and this junior quarterback shows you why the scouts love that big arm of his it's a really nice job out there making the catch I feel like fans are always expecting one of these Trojan receivers to be in the conversation to be the best in the country right because of the success they've had in the past and certainly in more recent years there's a lot of pressure to play that position now at the Coliseum and at USC but this guy right here he has been making his Mark and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 this defense they are tenacious and they've got guys up front that are athletic and that are so strong and then can collapse the pocket you saw it right there in that play action [Applause] attempt really need to find a productive play this time on second and long running back goes in motion to the air it's Moss makes the grab over the middle they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game third down and this offense is already in a world of trouble they could really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores spits it out to the back and this is going to be incomplete on third INE got to get the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight he's going to have to get into this one a little bit from 47 yds away he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 yds out that the score LC [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather returner is going to try to see what he can get nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the six LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense they'll go to the counter they shut it down quickly but he gets two out to the 18 and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple at second and eight they'll go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down dropping back it's nus Meyer and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in that's one thing this defense takes a lot of Pride on they like tackling the catch and they like being around the ball that time he was in proximity to knock that thing loose nice physical play which is if LSU will line up to punt it away they'll look to pin him deep he only needs a sliver of daylight he was hoping for a little more Running Room but they're able to get him down at the 45 this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down the back goes in motion looking to pass on second down caught behind the line it's marks and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few again this is a running back that can hurt you running it between the tackles and he's dangerous out in space they like to throw it to him out on the perimeter as he picks up a couple yards there and they got the completion but still looking at a third down from the gun wants to pass catch in the middle it's branch and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you [Applause] off the bootleg to buy a little space got it behind the line it's branch and there's going to be a loss on that play just run out of bounds and avoiding the contact using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today grabbed behind the line it's branch and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain my old coach said you never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain a little less room to work with now as the ball is at the 28 and it's third and long looking to pass it's Moss looking to the big tight end it's complete he was smelling that end zone but they get him down at the four after the big pass play and that's a really good example of a quarterback and his intended target both being on the same page the timing was almost perfect on that play that's why they were able to convert the third down now setting up first and goal and the Trojans have their offense in high gear with the run on first and goal he pushes It Forward all the way to the 2 yd line he's taking down at the 2 yd line it's now second and [Applause] goal we'll see if the offense can punch it in on second and [Applause] goal he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line well he gets tack down at the one yd line so offensively do you feel confident enough on third here trying to hand it off again yeah and I'm taking both these downs and I'm coming downhill I'm running the football trying to get this in the end zone I only got a yard to go I got to be physical they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and fourth and two is a little bit harder than fourth and one but you practice these two-point conversion plays every week it's an important part of the game so you should have some confidence on the two yd line of a play you can run to be successful it is true as he puts three on the board LCC [Applause] [Music] [Applause] they were able to get a field goal on board and now they'll kick it [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 just enough time for one more snap before the end of the quarter wants to throw on first down makes the catch it's Williams they get him on the ground and that'll be the final play of this third period guys LSU has the lead here they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter finish to throw it's nus Meer it's complete to the right and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down Tak down at the and that's a first down for the offense new set of downs after that completion good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four tell you what that read game really slows you down down defensively kind of makes you play responsibility football and when you get chunks like that on first down as an offense I would continue to come back too and here comes the offense on second down hand off from the gun and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing really nice job by the defense getting that last stop all third downs and games are important but this one just feels like it's the biggest down of this game right now for this defense if they can get off the field they've got to give it back to their offense with as much time as possible to have a chance to win this game on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the pass good timing on the quick out and a pickup of better than 30 yds on that completion before the defense brings him down and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do LSU right back to the line wants to throw on first down off the play fake didn't have much of a choice there but to get rid of [Applause] it after the misfire it's second down scanning the field it's nus Meer fires toward the end zone and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity well the defender got his hand on that one tipped it up in the air offense man they're lucky that one wasn't B this drive was clicking along but after a couple of misfires threatening to stall out on Third and 10 on the move he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and you got to do a better job up front right there that run was doomed from the get-go nowhere to go the back gets hit as soon as he gets the football hard to succeed as a running back when you get the ball and you get clocked so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot and this one splits the upright well that's a huge kick right there because now the opponent has to score a touchdown here in the fourth quarter that put so much pressure on the opponent nice job by the Special Teams going out and executing in a big moment [Applause] [Music] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away set to kick this one here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field good solid determined run there they'll Mark him down at the 27 I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points got eight on first down now looking at a second and two a little pre- snap eye candy for the defense can't get him to the ground and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down well I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first it'll be first and 10 from the 30 looking downfield it's Moss he's got his man still on his feet at the 45 oh what a big play for this offense as they get it to the 33 yd line how nice is it as a quarterback that you don't have to throw post routs to get great stats I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn this defense the Trojans want to pick up the [Applause] tempo the give on the inside he works his way down to the 30 yd line before he stopped a gain of three you know it's so important for offens is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by by having success like that running the football on first down got three on first down it's second and seven he's looking to throw got his man out of the back field and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that big part of the offensive game plan is yards after the catch but none available there I like the idea on offense of trying to spit the ball outside quickly and see if your guy can make something happen in space but give the def defense credit they rallied to the ball got him on the ground they within field goal range at the 29 let's see if they can pick up a few or the first down on Third and long he's got it and a confident throw and catch and there in the red zone at the 13 this dude is just exceptional in every facet so fluid such a great route Runner and a big play there and money down third down finally I mean you want to find that match up because he's going to win and gets a good lease gets down the field you see his that's your playmaker that's your guy get it to him get the first down not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure sure he's making the right decisions moving forward that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of answers he's just winning that matchup in the slot every time and when you put him in the slot Reese he's closer to the quarterback it's an easier throw we can run in we can run out and really take advantage of his versatility of the guy that slot position back to pass it's Moss Let it Fly and that one is picked off in the end zone Zone equals eyes when I say that DBS linebackers all covering the middle of the field so many guys over the middle of the field trying to take away the easy stuff but reading the quarterback's eyes the whole time whenever he breaks to throw that football and that hand separates from the ball I'm breaking on it you could tell they had a beat on it nice Cut nice instincts give me that int the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field okay Jesse this is a little bit of a tight spot you'd love to be aggressive enough to get the first down but you've got to take care of the ball first no doubt I was going to say ball security is at a premium cannot turn the football over at this point the defense has three timeouts left David so probably conservative play calling here you're expecting them to try to run to ice this game conservative I know they're going to be aggressive but I also know that one first down ends this football game no reason to do anything here except keep it on the ground on second and five the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick time out called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible and I'm not surprised I mean you put the ball in your best player's hands like late in the game you got to trust your guy I'm interested to see what they do here on third down coming up let's call it third and interesting right toot clock ticking down do I trust my Q he's got it down the right side he's loose and the catch and run into the end zone touchdown tigers and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game away [Applause] [Music] [Applause] getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point splits the ight in the lead balloons to 15 quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they finish with a huge play in the passing game covering 75 yds to house it lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll bring it back from inside his five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work that last Drive was promising for a while but you just can't mess it up at the end with the pick Jesse no you got to be able to finish drives especially in this game if you're going to win in D but they've got to be able to eliminate the metal mistake yeah and I don't think you get conservative or play it safe you can trust your guy I think you put the ball right back in his hands and let him do his thing got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down looking to throw it's Moss he's going up top here late in the game and it slips through his face fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it time is not on their side right now they can't afford too many more incompletions like that they need to come up with some connections and they've got to score points they've got to get this passing game going now he's going to look for a man on Third and short how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football and the Trojans will line it up on First and 10 he's going to pass snagged in the middle it's branch and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bleed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to claw their way back in this one unloads to the right got his man and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here L trying to find his man on first down caught over the middle it's Branch they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down I'll tell you man I love quarterbacks that have arm talent but that can throw it accurately at the same time and you saw all of it on that in rout on second down looking to throw grab near the marker it's Robinson Slamm to the ground but not before he gets the first down I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver creating enough separation to create a positive game the pass attempt Falls incomplete it leads to Second down second down coming up to the air it's moss and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit love the physicality of this secondary on defense that Defender got to the football was able to separate the receiver from the ball and did it legally beautiful job they were really starting to put a drive together but after a couple of incompletions now they need a big play on Third and 10 they're bringing heat they get up rush and it pays off the sack at the 20 and man it can be dangerous when quarterbacks get outside the pocket they can stret your defense so bad you better chase them you got to keep running as hard as you can and try to get to him before he can throw that football especially Square those shoulders up nice job by the defense continuing to pursue even though he got outside the pocket they get the timeout called 11 seconds remaining to play Down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down fires deep toward the end zone and it's incomplete the long pass downfield
