[Music] [Music] go okay now [Music] let e minut for leave up e good e turn he better spe second show e good morning sports fans 11:43 here in the morning pregame warm-ups going on uh thank you for I think we've got at least 15 people watch 15,000 people I should say watching Mike Leonard here with you from Franklin Community High School and uh we're getting ready to continue this hardfought battle getting ready to play one half the most important half of the most important quarter the fourth quarter of this game from last night you can see the the Marauders have arrived as well as obviously the grizzly Cubs out here doing pregame warm-ups and uh the thing I notice is that uh the the Marauders roster size has been reduced and uh probably a smart move um but they brought about 30 guys and um Grizzly Cubs have their full roster obviously being the home game a lot easier to do that but I give it up I give it up to the uh administrators of both schools kind of a athletic director's nightmare here on how to adjust and modify during these kind of situations of lightning delays to make sure we've got officials ambulance chain crew announcers it's uh along with an Invitational cross country um event that we had here the Invitational this morning that got delayed because of lightning in the area and as I was watching the local news this morning at about 8:39 o00 notied that the lightning in the area this morning in the whole state of Indiana was pretty much just in Johnson Southern Johnson County right where we are but it is cleared out skies are nice uh at least for the time being it's not raining at all and uh just perfect conditions kind of feels like a and it is a college football Saturday here thing I noticed is uh as I was out on the field a little little bit this morning seeing some of the Franklin players that were here early they were they were walking a little slowly and it brought back memories of of my high school days and uh as far as being sore on Saturday morning so these guys trying to work out the soreness on both sides and I know that the pregame stretching that they went through will help that very much so fans are starting to file in and uh it's going to be a going to be an exciting finish here the Marauders are going to have the ball first at their at about the 49 yard line roughly and uh see if the grizzly Cubs can keep them out but it's it's going to be an exciting finish a lot of good college football getting ready to start around the country and there were some some games last night as well as I was as I got home from this game was watching a few of them and I was flipping back and forth my memory comes to mind who who was I watching yeah I was watching a little um TCU Texas Christian playing Stanford watched an exciting one now that I think about it the Wisconsin Badgers kind of eak one out against Western Michigan Broncos kind of looked like Western Michigan was definitely in control of that until uh a uh punt that Wisconsin had to punt and uh it just bounced the wrong way for Western Michigan right into one of their players and it ended up being a a 50 yard swing right toward the end of the game and uh Wisconsin coming away with a 2814 Victory but I was very impressed with Western Michigan obviously within the state here um the hooers are hosting in Florida International the boilers are hosting the Indiana State sycamores I see that Notre Dame is headed down to agie land to play Texas A&M in College Station big one tomorrow night with USC now Big 10 the Trojans in Big 10 country but they're taking on the LSU Tigers in Las Vegas the way I understand it obviously everybody aware a lot of the postponements cancellations from last night thing that I wasn't aware of until morning this morning watching local news was the the uh mini I don't know if you call it tornado but whatever it worst was weather burst or whatnot at Center Grove that sent the whole bleachers from what I'm taking was I can't remember which end of the field it was but just knocked over their goal post as well I'm sure many of you have seen the seen that as well on social media or on TV but uh wow very fortunate that that didn't happen while people were in the stands would have been tragic safety first that's the big thing this Stadium cleared out quickly last night and um once that lightning struck there was there were people gone within minutes and everybody stayed safe from what I could tell I hope to be joined by somebody I seen walking in the stadium here one of my old college teammates and good friends it's the great thing about sports and football and life in general the relationships that are made over the years through being on a team together but uh my good buddy Charlie Hill a Beach Grove hornet graduate from 1979 I hope I can catch his eye and have him come up we can have some conversation and um he is the father of Chaz hill teacher coach defensive back coach here in uh in in at Franklin Community High School but uh hey we're not sure if the score or the time is going to work on the graphics that you see here but I will keep you updated did much like a a radio personality would like a Matt Taylor of the Indianapolis cols the score is 21 to 14 Franklin and there's 749 remaining in the fourth quarter if you did not know that so uh thank you for Kevin for giving me that advice that I'm going to be doing that to you but uh yeah we're getting through some first game technical issues present time is 11:51 with kickoff to be at 12:00 noon have you guys met right here this is my yes I've got uh like I like I mentioned a few minutes ago I got my college buddy Charlie Hill I know he's he's unsure what he's doing right now but he's he's putting on the uh the headset and uh sorry to throw you for a loop here my friend you know you know you're you're live now on the air if you don't mind buddy we'll have a little conversation that sounds great thanks for the invite M you're most welcome I tell you what a this has just got a great feel to it Charlie this brings back some memories you know of of Saturday afternoon football like we were able to play down at Handover College together yeah bust ended out on a Saturday big deal for the kids what was it like last night for you I noticed you were in the stands watching where you always do top row over here on the south end uh as you watch the grizzly cups uh you know you always special it's uh you know it's been touched with so much activity with high school football and and so many friends and and uh carrying it on to playing college and coaching afterwards uh and then blessed with the opportunity that son of mine Chaz coaching here at Franklin so it's pretty cool not only see the kids play but see him at work and enjoying something that he's he's been uh thinking about for a long time teaching and coaching at uh at the high school level I was mentioning a little bit earlier you know just thinking about athletic director Dodie and the athletic director from Mount Vernon really ads all around the state that had to deal with this lightning strike and just the administrative uh nightmare if you will that they earn their keep overnight you know rescheduling games making sure that all the Personnel are here ready for this game so many things involved we were uh Jennifer and I my wife Jennifer and I were waiting inside the the lobby at the school the athletic section of the school while the lightning delay was going on and there was probably 15 or so Franklin Community High School staff members that were there you know it was 11:00 or whatever it was when we were finally getting the answers on staying or going and they still had to clean up things reorganize things get people in the right places and have the place ready to roll this morning so uh kind of a thankless and tireless job sometimes for them to make all the things happen for the kids definitely earn their keep and we appreciate their hard work on that I understood from last night that as I was talking to Bill Dodie the athletic director hey are you going you okay with officials to he say this is going to be a little bit bit of a mixed bag this might not be the exact same crew we had last night that couple of those guys are working college games and so I I recognize Mr Avery out there the Umpire in the in the middle tall standing on 50 yd line he's back from last night I'm not quite sure about the other guys but we're getting ready for the most important half of the most important quarter 7 minutes and 49 seconds left our score is not working as well as you can see the clock I see 749 left here in the in the fourth quarter so man this is a just a a a unique think for players I mean first play of the game if you will is at the at the 49 yd line going in a jump start for them that's for sure as as of last night the key is stopping this Jala Brogan great running back we'll see what Mount Vernon does out the gate Here Charlie going to throw it to him out of the gate but keep it you know they threatened it that's for sure get off not sure what they're waiting on I guess it is probably I don't see a I don't see a flag thr but it is a illegal procedure according to official Charlie you weren't expecting this walking in the stadium quite where he being on the headset you know but you I know you you we're going to game it up him you can if anybody can handle this it's you Charlie it's easy to talk about when you're watching the kids play there's always uh cool things to see Amen on that Mason Meyer back to pass sophore quarterback he's going deep and really had him yeah made just a little bit of a a wrong adjustment to that ball and kept himself from getting to it he had it thrown pretty well the kid throws it pretty good for Mount Vernon rker bear on the receiving end and uh yeah you know first and 15 they they went for it why not okay second and 15 here for the Marauders good place for an early stop right here their money man Jala Brogan on the carry great defense keeping him contained pick up of one third and 14 really pleased the the games I've seen so far even against the scrimmage at Ron Ki and the the ball game last week at Albany New Albany how well the Franklin kids are tackling in space yeah I haven't seen many Miss missed tackles from last night Franklin brings in a sub DB passing it here takes out a d lineman and uh Sprint out play action by Meer smart no late hit there on the sideline good decision good decision just a layoff you know it's fourth down and long looks like they are going to play field position bring in a punt team but our clock's not rolling I don't think but the uh good early stop out of the Franklin defense to just not let this thing get out of hand in those first couple minutes on such a short short duration of play here right Mason Meyer coming in uh quarterback as the punter as well so got to play and Franklin is they're playing defense they they've got no returner back kind of a a I would say a really nice kick by Meyer who got a nice roll and just the way he kicked that he didn't kick it like a normal punt he kind of kicked a little sideways to get some roll like that worked out as a good good long punt with nobody back there and no chance to return 718 left as you can see on the screen and um you know ideally Franklin will go with a 4minute offense with 718 to go and if see if they can sustain a what would be a uh Charlie help me with my math would that be about a 93 93 93 hard drive you know just even if they don't score shoot so much clock yeah they need a good controll drive here and gain some yards and some move the sticks a few times right Grayson Betts in the sh shotgun going to give it to what I assume was it was TS it was it was lugers interesting to see the Mount Vernon they play those ends and they are crashing hard and Franklin is decided not to block them at all right and they're meeting right at the mesh point on a keeper give and a few times lugers gets just to the line of scrimmage or a yard or so but they're are aching to bust a long run with him beating those ends it looked a little dangerous last night for the G Ley Cubs on that mesh Point you're right now we're in Split backs as opposed to Pistol problems last night were mainly out of the pistol from what I saw bringing linebackers here on the double Blitz just really stack that up it is so that's going to going to make a third and medium big play here to pick up a first down third and third third and five third and five and a half maybe Grayson's asking for please get the play in a little quicker here we've got plenty of time still on the 25 second clock 402 clock grizzli Cubs in uh split backs with three wide receivers it's going to be a drop back pass Sprint out got him big big catch in the gut that's good first down it'll stop the clock momentarily but I think he's going to call him like being an inbound so the clock hopefully for the grizzly Cubs and it is it'll roll from what I I think I don't see it rolling on the scoreboard yet but it probably there he goes he's asking for it's a little late so I would hold off if I was Grayson a little bit and let this chew clock snap it always you know at about three snap that one about 14 every second here is vital got bottled up again with those ends got to lugers before he was able to get back to the line of scrimmage this is one of those situations quarterback be be aware of your clock you know that red clock in both end zones that is the 42nd clock and when you're trying to choose clock you don't want it snap too soon they're going to call a flag on some wide receiver movement there Charlie they going to back them up again now theoretically the game clock should roll once they reset this ball so it's a 25 Grayson please take some time Charlie a lot of these guys I was mentioned before you got on the air that they were walking around a little slowly being a little sore on a on a Saturday morning little tough routine to come back it's as if they played the whole game quarterback Cape there a lot of penetration fought to get back to the line of scrimmage brings up a long and big third down call here looks like Mount Vernon has their full assortment of timeouts remaining Em are you throwing for the first down here are you running a play to run clock and I throw I throw deep we get nobody gets maybe we get a an interference call but uh and that's in you know he can't protect make sure you protect the ball stay in bounds don't go out yeah yeah things that little things add up to be big they sure do that's that's going to stop the clock not not what you wanted there good play to just uh take a slide and keep the ball in play and the clock running at 4 thinks he will be coached up on y just a junior quarterback getting his first real you know starting starting job he's done he's started before on a part-time basis with Klay penck last year but need to make a tackle here on this return was it a that was high and a late flag call in the face mask couldn't tell if he had the shoulder pads or he had him on the helmet yeah from this angle just couldn't tell but uh flag was thrown that's going to push 15 more yards put it up you know somewhere somewhere about the 20 25 or so great field position for Mount Vernon with four minutes left Franklin shwed off about three minutes there Charlie yep they uh was not Franklin's plan to spend the seven minutes down on their half of the field I'm sure but they're going to have to make another set of stops here to get the football back Charlie I'm just checking the YouTube feed we're up to 60 60,000 people watching you know incredible the following the spring this is awesome well done with your podcast equipment this year very excited for the whole athletic department enough to snap but regained it get out there contain him up squee plent of support would have L to have kept him in bounds there yeah smart move by Mason Meyer getting out of bounds to stop the clock second down and long you were mentioned the kids being a little sore there were several of them just with the heat all week and then yesterday that Drew up with some cramps and we hobbling a little bit it's a quick turnaround for them to get back into game action on both sides of the the ball I was talking to our athletic trainer Marcus Davis that he was going to be the MVP for the night uh in keeping our guys healthy there's Jala Brogan just a a Shifty powerful back as well I mean not just not just fast but boy he can drag some ball carriers very impressed with him I coached his father at Franklin College back in 2003 and four and five a great running back out of Lawrence North he's over in the visitor stands watching his son he's athletic player he runs well breaks a lot of tackles Myers got that knock down that's going to bring up fourth down already spinning fast here it's Fourth and six7 they were able to get they were able to get Franklin's dline to jump twice here hey I think they picked up four first downs in the game last night interesting to see him kick from here 41 yard let's make sure defensively we don't flinch jump at all okay field goal by number one rer vard is it no good okay good try young man good effort just had the distance just must have pulled it a little bit one way or other I couldn't tell Big Break for Franklin gets a chance to get the ball back and move the sticks I was kind of shocked they went for a field goal there Char I mean no you know coaches those coaches over there coach Lighty uh great great coach fourth and five walking up in uh the pregame I could hear coach idy talking to them about when they were working on their uh extra points and their field goals there how important they thought that was going to play out here this afternoon and probably counted on making that thing definite four-minute offense needed right here 3177 left Grizzly Cubs up by seven ball security is vital right now ball is cover the thing up stay in bounds keep it to hand it back to the official amen Mount Vernon's probably got to start thinking on when they're going to use those three timeouts yeah 246 and Counting looks like Grayson's being about 25 second clock W to get down I think got a little coaching on that in between the uh series he sure did just ankle ankle tackle there but he got him down here's their first timeout for Mount Vernon 225 yes it's going to be third and third and seven find a good uh good possession pass you know curl routes comeback routes something that you know and I always like to have at least one receiver going deep so there's you know if they come up and Blitz or you got a place you can throw it quickly and take a chance but I think uh Franklin's offensive staff here coach call and the group thinking all right how can we pick up this first down if we pick up this first down it's going to give us not icing the game yet but obviously a much better chance would be a big first down to gain and give him a chance to uh control the finish here in instead of giving the ball back to the Marauders I'd be I'd be preaching in that group take care of the football stay in bounds be a nice place to pull your own crazy count uh Cadence here and try to draw an off offsides penalty make that a third and short kind of some kind of trickeration play you know that's always always unexpect da yeah down in your own end sure only if you practiced it well and have great confidence I don't I don't expect to see that right here though Grayson in the shotgun one back lugers trips off to this side a tight Bunch one-on-one at the Top If You Want It okay quarterback keeper protect the ball not much there I think part of the part of the thought was let's chew some clock Force another timeout Mount Vernon is now down to one if they they did take that did they I wasn't watching they stopped the clock sto the clock officials are signaling up to the press the the guys on the other side who are controlling the game clock and what night whatnot I think we might be adjusting some of the time possibly um it shows 207 on our screen as it does you viewers watching not sure if we have new clock put 21 on the board there we go sometimes with Personnel changes overnight even up here in the Box maybe it's not quite the same Personnel people working from last night good crew good crowd not not as good as last night obviously student section boy it was a great student it was a good crowd last night big big there's a handful of faithful students here watching their buddies play which is great here we go fourth down big place for a good tackle down here on the end of this punt nice kick squeeze it oh they CAU him in there got some space back the other side of the field Gavin Joy who was really a big contributor last night for the Marauders offense nice nice player senior 47 yd line of of the grizzly Cubs one thing I'll mention Here Charlie is that uh we we've got to keep him out from scoring a touchdown obviously but I I think that Mount Vernon has a plethora of two-point plays and that matter of fact after one of the early touchdowns they had some kind of spread funky formation that they were ready for so hopefully it doesn't get to that for the grizzly Cubs but for you fans that are watching from Mount Vernon I know you're hoping for a touchdown and take a lead I have a feeling their coaching staff is not going to play for overtime they're going to do a two-point conversion and win it there's a chance to pick one off no good coverage on that one it stayed on top and the ball ended up out of bounds with no chance to catch but that was a good coverage on that play right saw where Mason Meyer got up uh after must have gotten hit I was watching the ball like all fans but he must there was possible late hit nothing got called No call but uh officials are letting them play here a little bit it's second down and 10 oh that was a crucial drop right there that was a three or four yard gain and and uh just couldn't hang on to it got a good hit one the defensive backs coming up to cover number four Colin Owens nice job coming up third down and 10 10 need some pressure from the front four got Blake Smith over there over the left guard be a big sack right here that match up he's got plenty of time back there and he's got him on the post R beautiful beautiful good catch on a tip to himself tip pass yeah didn't get uh the help in the middle and uh he had a lot of time to throw that ball laid it up for him let's see I'm watching Toby Toby Jacobs offensive coordinator it looks like they want to go quick they're going to go and they're going to go two-point conversion and they're he's trying to get that play in real quick they are flanked out doubles on both sides trying to get him to jump so they could shorten the distance yeah all right let's see what he's dialing up looks like uh a big defensive play right here Franklin's in a 42 front looking to throw it out brout he might keep him out of the end zone caught it at the goal line and couldn't get in that was a big good physical hit on the receiver Franklin with a nice defensive play rker bear on the catch and boy he he he he got away from that first tackle and I thought he was going to be able to but the grizzly Cub secondary came through keeping them out a little bit of strength training involved in that they look conditioned and look like they've cashed in on some uh Springtime and summertime weightlifting that's been a physicality thing that's been nice to see for the kids coach Haron and strength staff get some credit on that one great job fellas and and a great really a good try by Mount Vernon too you know come right at it for the win absolutely I I I was expecting that uh not being prophetic I hope I didn't Jinx the grizzly Cubs as I was talking about going for two there but hey you saw it coming now it's uh one timeout left for Mount Vernon they're going to have to burn that you know after the first play you trying to onside kick this thing in you trying to get it back now or you going to try to get it back on stops I I I think now hold it grizzly Cubs got to make sure they're behind that line and they are now yeah I think I think it's definite ons side Here Charlie it looks like grizzly got you know they got nine guys up a 10th ready to come up kick oh that's a nasty one just catch it lugers has it and run to the left sideline good nice good return good security with the football little bit of conversation at the end of that run nice job Alex Luger on that those are always those tough ones Charlie those little bloop kicks over the top and usually there's some guys back there that aren't the greatest of hands on a normal kick return good blocker yeah but Grizzly Cubs give it up to the coaching staff for having lugers kind of in that in that range to to go he's kind of like a center fielder he could go left or right tracked it down and secured the football and that uh should put the grizzly Cubs in a great spot here to take care of the football and run out the minute 19 it's almost I don't have a chart in front of or anything but I think if you take a knee right here they burn their first time I I think that's what you do it's it's definitely New York Giants Philadelphia Eagles 197 9 or something like that Giants had the game one Joe pasaric trying to hand off to Doug kotar I believe and fumble let's see if he takes a knee from the shotgun oh he took a shotgun snap and he's running it so much for that theory yeah yeah at least he secured the ball real well and was ready to go down no handoff no exchange coach Lighty call it his final timeout with 114 here theoretically if Franklin can secure the ball it should secure the victory do a great job by uh Mount Vernon getting the stops keeping the ball in the Franklin into the field and had a nice shot for their touchdown pass and put the pressure on for that uh stop on the extra point conversion that was a big stop 114 on the clock 40 seconds plus 40 seconds 80 Seconds that's a a minute 20 so I you know in my math as a former head coach and Al you have to know those numbers that yes we can basically take a knee and and I'll give it that I don't mind that kind of play quarterback quarterback run get down after one yards are you going to a knee out of the shotgun here I've seen teams do that looks a little funky but uh I don't think the grizzly Cubs practice any underneath the center so this is their standard Way Center Mason Ford doing a great job snapping this is their this is their their play I I just y great job by Grayson making sure the ball's secured you know lugers lugers got out one time for a long run last night Jal Brogan got out one time I think overall both defenses did a good job of containing those running backs I thought that was the key to the game as well as the health Factor good Runners on both squads with big Breakaway speed and uh you're right they contained him well on both sides that's what made this game interesting it was yeah well contested all right here we go it's it's obviously third and 11 but this is the last play of the game oh we got a we got to snap off just before the delay of game and so that should do it yep well done Franklin what a fantastic battle good sportsmanship really all night long and that's what that's what fans like to see coaching staffs did a great job all of the organization and getting getting guys ready to come back on a Saturday morning that's it's not easy and you don't plan for that kind of thing during the week but uh everybody adjusted and modified real well Charlie I can't thank you enough for joining me here having some fun conversation we we go way back man we we love throwing the ball to each other even throwing a lot of passes had a chance to catch a lot of your balls even at our age after games it's fun to get a ball that and just heave it around a little bit love you bro man it's pleasure uh standing in here with you love you too fans thank you for for uh hanging in here hope you guys all enjoyed it and uh I know the grizzly Cubs they'll be back here on Friday night hosting the Perry Meridian Falcons um can't remember who the Mount Vernon guys got they they're in conference play and I believe I believe I'm not sure if they go to New Pal or not but uh or to Greenfield Central possibly but anyway they start they start conference play there in the in the hoer Heritage so good luck to both teams both coaching staffs both schools to Mr henkins thank you thank you for the job that you do running back and forth to the control room back in the school uh you earn your keep as well today and to all the student athletes congratulations the grizzly Cub sitting 2 and0 now on the season great start ready for the Midstate conference so everybody have a great Labor Day weekend safe travels if you're on the road and enjoy some college football this week and uh we'll see you back here next Friday night thank you for watching spe e e B came e e care we
