off today the biggest game of the season so far South Carolina versus Kentucky coming up at 3:30 this is the big spur and the chief sport NW pregame show Welcome in um we will have obviously more structure as we go along but yes South Carolina faces Kentucky for the first game of the SEC schedule um and this is for the lead this is for the lead um and it's it's huge humongous game uh there in Lexington we're g to get things kicked off and and roll in here preview the game and we also have a post game show um afterwards it a lot of stuff so appreciate everyone joining joining in again this the uh um the ABC crew um you know it's gonna this game will get a lot of national attention a lot of national attention um and whoever wins obviously is going to be talked about for this next week this game is on a big platform I think it's huge to have a a game that's early enough um in in uh this season where it's you know you're on a platform like this so uh it's huge it's huge uh Terence absolutely Nails um so absolutely and he says Rocky gets over 100 yards you're gonna need rocket to get over 100 yards if you want to win this game man I tell you what um you were going to need him to get over 100 uh this ground game has to be better this week um because Kentucky I mean this is a real team not that old dominion wasn't Old Dominion was a really good team uh you know and you you should have taken care of that one a little bit better we talked about that obviously all week and and on our show on Sunday with with Matt and Alex um but um yeah I think you have to run the ball you have to run the ball better Mr Reed twer says maeso scores today book it I love it maeso Bennett scoring today if if your touchdowns out there maeso Bennett Mr retweeter says to get into the end zone I like it uh it's it's certainly a play you need your wide receiver room to step up big time Big time Big Time big time uh and you know maeso Bennett might might be the answer to that this week um I I think Harbor obviously he had some targets last week but really didn't do as much Harbor needs to step up as well expecting a big game out of him excuse me um as as things Roll Along here and you need somebody your wide room wide receiver room to step up like I said this week um somebody has to make make plays and be that dude consistently um and so yeah it's it's going to be uh you know quite the Enigma to see which guy steps up and and you know ten or excuse me kuy's defense is loaded with veteran guys right loaded and so you know it's it's going to be that challenge to see uh you know which which wide receiver can get by and and you know honestly I I'm not sure which one it's going to be to step up today right because um last week we saw van dvy step up which was big two catches but I mean the the the catches were spread throughout the board we're still looking for that that dude in the wide receiver room for sure um Queen of the Cox says Gotta Have tight ends in the passing game no doubt about it yeah absolutely I fully expect John and get involved today um and and they're gonna open this offense up a lot more too I fully expect D to open up this offense quite a bit we didn't see as much I think part of the reason why we saw you know more option runs more kind of why the offense looked a little dead was because Dow didn't want to put everything on tape and yes there were some execution issues yes there was some things where uh you know it didn't go exactly right exactly according to plan for this offense and and how things roll um but I I expect them to open it up a little bit more and and work on some of the or show some of the stuff that they've been working on a while um and not just the simple and basic Run game but uh what what it's gonna come down to for me is the South Carolina defense right I mean it's it's always been the the key to the story here um for for the South Carolina team we've heard about how good this defense is um and and you know just we hear about it all the time just Bam Bam Bam Bam Bam this defense is going to be so good so good so good um and it it needs to be today it needs to be Brock Vandergriff we've seen him before uh not not in the SEC but we know what he's made of he's back up at Georgia transfers to Kentucky week throws for quite a bit of yards um against uh Southern Miss I believe they were playing but that game got rained out we didn't get a full full dose but Kentucky took care of business last week Vandergriff was 12 of 18 169 yards and three touchdowns and a pick in three two and a two and one third quarters worth a play last week freaking talk right so it starts with Vandergriff you right you gotta make sure the um the the passing game and everything doesn't get to out of hand um and so it's um we we says kuy's wide receiver room is fast but not very good or physical press them and make them onedimensional I love this point Hunter it's a great Point here um I I agree they're fast they're Speedy they will beat you in one-on-one situations I believe it was Morgan I was talking about how this defense gets caught up in some one-on-one situations um and and you know it it can lead to a lot of M tackles all that against Old Dominion DQ Smith we got to see better out of him man we gotta see better out of him he's not great in the open field but again if he if he's gonna play he's got to be better he's got to be better or else you got to make it you got to make a switch I mean love DQ love everything he stands for you know stepped up in a big big big big big way but um again I I don't know you you kind of have to match up and and you need the best matchups I mean today in space I mean because these guys will burn you in space all Vandergriff has to do is get the ball to him find him relatively open space and you're probably for a touchdown so um again the biggest key for me about about this point especially Hunter is just wrapping up wrapping up um because if you if you can wrap up I mean these guys are good in space yes but all you got to do is get a body on them right even even just a bump um and then let your guys set the edge as well I know Kentucky will try to get get around the edge we know that they've got some speed in the back field as well um in in sumu um sumu k b um Kentucky senior running back carries last week 59 yards at a touchdown um and and they running game isn't as good as last season's right but I think um you have to continue you got to set the edge um and again wrapping up wrap up wrap up wrap up it's the biggest thing for me for this defense this week gotta wrap up gotta wrap up and I think it simplifies the whole it simplifies the whole game from from that on forward and I the defense was pretty pretty pretty good last week minus the one DQ Miss tackle uh you know I I think his defense was really good um and yeah Allen absolutely o need Stanfield to help yeah absolutely as much as I can right um and I I kind of expected something similar last week uh with with odu's Tempo you know offense just ran run run the ball run the ball run the ball um and and you know try to keep the defense off the field I think it's going to be a little bit more of a different story with Kentucky I think they're open up the Playbook a little bit more because the defense isn't you know moving as much moving as hard moving as fast right so um fully expect them to to open up the Playbook a little bit more and also now that it's an SEC opponent right if you win today you sit a top the the new SEC which is crazy absolute crazing right South Carolina holding a lead in the SEC it's it's been quite a long time since we've been waiting to say that so I mean if you get a win today you can say it again um and and and you sit a top the lead the first SEC game um in this this new new expanded conference with Texas and OU so big honor for sure Hunter says DQ gets put on skates today and it'll be ugly yeah again he he can't get put on skates today he's not great in one1 situations not great out in space but we know what DQ's great in in in the passing game right covering coverage um but so yeah I I don't know we'll see what happens with DQ I I expect him to play I I don't expect him to you know again get matched up with the guys where where he's more likely to get burnt um and and you know they'll go from there for sure Hunter says OD you got all their points on two plays last easy to clean that up absolutely yeah and that's why I think defense leads the way um in this one this week because you know you you just need it to plain and simple um because if the defense is doing their job and um you know then the rest is g to take care of itself offensively right so um huge point there for sure my keys to the game this week obviously it's it's the defense um just in basic hes the game here I I think the or offensively you need a wide receiver to step up right that's how you open up this passing game that's why or that that is when Dow will start throwing the ball more um when you have a wide receiver that can do it right that that can go go up and get the ball a wide receiver that you can trust plain and simple a wide receiver that you can trust goes a million miles further than um a you know a bunch of wide receivers that you can kind of trust um so we're gonna find out who it is today I I would hope and if you don't they're probably going to lose this game to be honest um but you you you you need somebody to step up and have that just dog kind of game um and so we'll see who it is today if if the comments have any I mean Mr Reed weer said Mao Bennett gets a touchdown today I I I can see that happening maeso Bennett's been trending upwards too um which happy for maio that's awesome I mean really good kid and you know you you wouldn't want it better for anyone else uh but again I I think you know this South Carolina defense end room got a lot of Praise last week and rightfully so KY Canard and and Dylan Stewart everything that they've been doing has been uh incredible incredible off the edge it's they they've given South Carolina a pass rush for the first time in years like a good substantial pass rush and it goes a long way when it comes to scheming out defenses talking to Clayton white before the season he was so excited about his defense like it was a different vibe from from years past because again he has a pass rush he has a front seven to work with and he he has a basic functionality of it of of his defense back and and again get getting rushing the passer and and being able to get in the back field and run fit um I think is huge it's it's one of the big things for this defensive end room as well as Sterling Lucas it's it's the biggest key um there is and so yeah the having the front seven that can get a push goes a long way Long Way [ __ ] batty checking in afternoon fellas afternoon [ __ ] hope you're checking in from either Lexington or Columbia getting ready to watch this one uh should be a pretty good tilt up there in Lexington but yes again we're getting ready for it um big batty says what's better than inside the Gamecocks on the SAT I'm not sure boss man I'm not sure we are getting you ready for this tilt with Kentucky um again could go it's one of the biggest tilts on the schedule to this point obviously um you know it's it's better than Georgia in in week two or week three uh as as you traditionally did in this slot so now you've got Kentucky a team that's beatable right and if you win this one oh boy watch out because you know they're they're I believe it's acred and then LSU um so you know schedule doesn't get any easier I mean it will after this one with with akan uh or with LSU with then akan but you got to win this one you got to I mean plain and simple it's it's a mustn game early on in the season and about as early on as you can get a muscle game well like um if you think about it like this Kentucky game it's it's held bragging rights it's held so many you know I guess beef between Stoops and and Coach Beamer and and everything like that and of that nature like you you know there's there's a lot of energy going into this game so the only thing for me at least uh you know South Carolina cannot come out flat you just can't come out out flat for this one it's a road game it takes a while to Kentucky takes about six seven hours believe me I you know drive through Lexington and and get the middle finger every time I I drive home to Indiana because of my South Carolina you know uh tire cover every time I drive through lexon or Knoxville you know it's it's it's always getting hawked out everything like that but so it's long you can't come out flat I I mean these Road games in the SEC are brutal because teams don't give themselves enough time to just prepare I mean you're sitting on a plane all day and then you go you and then you get in and then you just you know you go from there and you you you you have to adjust very quickly so my only concern really is is them coming out flat uh and if they come out flat it's going to be a long afternoon a Long Afternoon big batty says do you have an impact player that needs to step up um it needs to step up I'll give you a couple because whenever I'm asked to name one player I always give like five or six so you go uh I think needs to step up from a if they want to win this game I think Dylan Stewart and K Canard need to be as good as they were last week um I that's given somebody that needs to step up for them to like win this game that didn't last week I'm gonna say somebody in the wide receiver room I don't know who that is uh Nick haror is is certainly one of them but somebody needs to be a consistent force in this wide receiver room like not have a couple catches couple big catches and then okay we're g to spread the ball around more no no no no I need somebody that you're trying to Target every time that you need a big play and you you need somebody like that to step up um and so like that's all this offense is missing you have the the running the the all SEC running back you've got the depth at at running back and and you have tons of depth at wide receiver You' just gotta find dude you just got to find the one guy the one guy that's like you know going to be uh you know the dude that you Chuck the ball to like the screw it okay he's down there somewhere kind of thing uh is is what I I I need to see I need to see that dog somebody who is ready to take over the game from the wide receiver because we haven't seen that yet we really haven't seen that yet and it was a looming question going into the preseason and it's been a looming question going you know to into the season and then you know we didn't get an answer uh with with Old Dominion so I'm gonna I'm gonna say play yours uh just anybody in this wide receiver room man they they need some help they need some help and I I expect to throw the ball a lot more because again you know I don't think Dow really opened up that Playbook as much um as he normally would uh against Old Dominion I I really don't um you know he uh wasn't trying to show a whole lot yeah Jay Wizzle Nick haror absolutely yeah he was non-existent last week right and and after all the hype with with the the video game 99 speed and everything we just didn't get Nick Harbor and I don't know whether or not that is you know because he is he like I don't think he's hurt he's he's healthy for for for all that we know Nick Harbor is healthy um J they got to throw the ball absolutely uh yeah and sers just I mean he's got to get more comfortable in the passing game I I don't think he looked hor like yes he looked horrible uh you know in terms of just execution but there were still flashes that shows that you know that there's still reason for optimism if you know what I'm saying like there's still um it uh there's still chugging along like but he I I think there's going to be a drastic improvement from from week one to week two from sers I just I could feel it and this is you know going on the road too is another big thing because like you have to you're forced to and this this road game with Kentucky is going going to be nothing compared to what you're going to see in Tusa later this season but but but but it's a road game in the SEC nonetheless so you you have to stay on track you got to get things going uh and and keep him in the right direction uh with this with this road game but again it's it's also going to be the first real I guess R test some of these young guys um you know you talk about lenorris playing on the road as a starter it's going to be his first opportunity as a starter to go on the road in the right I mean if if you're South Carolina right now you're thinking you're lucky stars that it's against Kentucky and that he doesn't have to do this thing between the hedges because that's that's one heck of a of a roow debut for for someone uh who who's just getting his feet wet this league right so um Michael Lyn says can our defense keep them from scoring more than 21 I think it's possible certainly possible if we win this game it's got to happen um but can this defense keep them scoring more than 21 and apologies I'm sick I'm dealing with it um battling it out here uh but yeah I I think they and yeah absolutely it's certainly within the realm possibility and need to do it if they want to win um that's that's another thing it's just like if you want to win this football game you got to hold them 21 has to be that number to be honest like I I think it's right on the nose 21 or 24 because this offense hasn't been scoring as many points as as you would want right we we know that the the defense is ahead of the offense at this point in the game so like you need the defense to carry a little bit more now I mean thing that we learned from last week is that this defense can't carry you the whole time they can't it's it's it's not possible to win football games like that and you did against Old Dominion sure but again excuse me um again it's it's just in in the in the right direction uh you know for for this defense or for this whole this team as a whole if your defense is carrying you uh game by game do you think [ __ ] batty says do you think Ashford gets some snaps seems to be floating around uh I think like in terms of because lenorris is bad no I don't think so I think they're gonna let Lenoris develop um I really do and like the only reason I could see Ashford getting some snaps is if it's a like Wildcat package or something something funky that Dow wants to like run with but if it's based on Purely ability I don't think that ashford's going to get I think they're just going to trust Lenor unless he throws like three or four picks or something like that like goes out there throws three picks four interceptions whatever I I don't see them benching him um let's see Jay Wizzle says in blocking must be better all the talk about that line it didn't look good I need to see the Great Wall of Carolina yeah absolutely offensive line I mean they didn't have a good game or they have a great game last week but they also didn't have a bad game uh like coach Beamer was saying so I I think it's it's just a combination of of you know shrinking it together and and you know just a consistency thing and then also it's week one offensive when has the offensive line been lights out on week one for for that matter like realistically I can even I mean growing up in in South Ben even not aame like o line you the offensive line was out of sync week uh so I don't know if it's completely fair to to to judge them based on one Jay I expect it to be better today plain and simple plain and simple U Michael L says I think the short passes give Lenoris confidence or will work but dies Kentucky or does Kentucky already know what we want to do uh yeah I think it's on tape for sure and it's you know Michael the the the chess match in this is watching you know take where he's going to take the short passes and where he's going to take the gains and where he's going to take you know everything that comes with it like you know how do how does he get Lenoris in a rhythm without getting too predictable is my biggest thing right how and how how do you do that I don't I don't I'm not an offensive coordinator I don't know what plays need to be called for Lenoris to get back into a rhythm and and just start to feel comfortable to where you can really open up the Playbook you know what I'm saying so I don't I don't know it's that's I think it's it's the balance that that Dow is gonna have to find um this week and and really really L up uh because if your starting quarterback isn't in a rhythm on the road you've got some bigger fish to fry you've got some bigger fish to fry Big B I think we need to hire that stallions guy yeah uh if you ain't cheating you ain't trying I suppose [ __ ] but uh yeah uh I I had Mr retweeter ask asked us at the beginning of the show whether or not I had Texas or Mig I am taking Texas all day all day those cheaters up in an arbor don't deserve any wins at all at all um all right so kind of getting to uh the meat and potatoes of the show here we're going to keep it relatively short because it is just me today um again Big Show appreciate everyone tuning in again in this show we should be within the hourong uh hourong reach when I when I do have a co-host uh but again just me today and then Michael yeah I appreciate it I I and I'm sorry for all the sniffles and of hand that's good to know um again go go Irish I suppose uh but yes so yeah ballad and out here for sure um but yeah how I think this game is going to go uh pretty easy uh to to dial up here not not the hard not the easiest game to pick but I think South Carolina's going to I mean play and I think going to try to run the football effectively number one I think that's where it starts on offense and then they're going to try to open it up gonna try to open it up a little bit EXO how's it going check it in uh yes I appreciate uh I appreciate it trying trying my best again hopefully some rest some R over these next two days should be good EXO just hopeful we win EXO do you have a pick uh on on how you think it'll go or or you just got to win uh it what you got I again I I I think this game is going to come down to the wire I think it's going to be like a three-point game um ultimately it's like 17 217 South Carolina is is my pick I I picked 24 or 27 24 on the radio uh on on Friday with Tyler head uh I don't think it's going to be that high scoring upon second reevaluation so I don't I got the Gamecocks I got the Gamecocks today uh Michael ly says did you see how intense Beamer was on SC Nation yes I did yes yeah he's it's it gives me the same energy Michael I don't know if you guys all saw Marcus Freeman at agilan yesterday or not yesterday but last week uh at Kyle Field before before leading his team into battle um Mark Freeman was screaming at his players just like let's go like same thing same kind of intensity same kind of level I think coach Beamer's taking like a page out of Coach Freeman's book or at least taking a page out of what he saw last week because that that's the way to do it right I think margus Freeman laid out a a perfect uh you know how how to manage your team in tough road environments um and it's leading by example right because these guys especially with this team that South Carolina has uh as as young and and um and and as inexperienced as they are I think you know it's um you you need so you need a coach that's that's right there right in the thick of it with you you know um and and really fiery and intense it's what you need to bring on road games it's a business trip you weren't there to have fun I know some of the beat is up there to drink Bourbon and and enjoy the trip but uh you know you're there to play football plain simple so uh you need you need a leader that's your head man needs to be uh as intense as ever so yes Michael I'm I'm with it I'm with it and again I say I it's already giving me the same uh energy as Marcus Freeman last week with A&M because and we saw what what Notre Dame was able to do uh with with the aies after coach Freeman did that so absolutely EXO says agree and it will be close and low scoring 100% yeah close low scoring uh very very very energy filled game for sure um and and you know we'll see it's G going to be heated going to get heated for sure EX exosis fre knew he needed to show out on the road this year last year and he was terrible on the road I'm still traumatized likewise EXO again being from South Bend got a little bit of fandom back to the Irish uh couldn't get in for sure but uh yeah it not good not goody says I think s sers is a lot calmer and plays better today yeah I think so too Corey I'm with you I think you know he's just going to look a little bit more cool calm and composed now Cory I think it would be unrealistic to think that there aren't going to be spots where you know he's still a little out of his element kind of fish out water type thing but um he's the game is slowing down to him it's it's similar to what we saw with uh Nick Harbor last year and again where is Nick Harbor I don't know um I'm still waiting for for him to to you know step up and and be that number one guy but yeah I do I I think sellers plays a lot calmer there's still going to be some Growing Pains at still going to you know take some time for the game to slow down to him a little bit uh yeah I I think he plays a lot calmer today and and it works out for him too as Michael says I think they're gonna win uh and so did he so B says I went 34 and 23 to UK yesterday but it's game day flip that around Go Cox absolutely Gotta Have optimism on the game days um as as we always certainly do here on the chief Sports Network and uh 247 Network as well but yeah so I I got the game Cox winning uh 2117 with the final is what I got in or Joe mriz pick right there for you um we will have or we will most likely have a a postgame show if if things go well or as long as things don't go ter or tremendously wrong up there in Lexington we will have a postgame show it'll be great um and and you know we'll be sure to recap everything from from this Kentucky game that you need uh
