the candidate Mr tabun ABD Majid has won 5,329 and 253 votes which represents 9465 of the total votes M speak YF wandell professor of political science at K University always good to see you Yousef um um the president's campaign framed him as uncle tabun is he that kind of friendly Uncle figure because Amnesty International last week was decrying the suppression of democracy and of civil rights groups imp implying that the government is overly harsh on free speech and just general Democratic rights uh on the whole International organizations non-governmental organizations have been critical of algeria's Human Rights record in general since president boon took over they claim that that there has been an erosion of civil and political Liberties uh some kind of a Crackdown on uh dissidents and some of the opposition figures but the view of uh the idea of Uncle taboon comes as a result of M introducing uh some some some kind of s for the unemployed obviously the unemployment rate is very very high in Algeria and for the first time in Algeria it has been introduced some sort of payment for the unemployed he has uh also increased some uh salaries and he's seen by so many algerians as the father figure UNC Uncle figure and obviously the mass media and his political campaign played on that particular concept and used it to their uh own advantage in other world he is the uncle figure you can trust him and so on so forth and Algeria would be in safe hands with him uh do you believe he'll be able to use oil and gas Revenue to improve uh the cost of living crisis to improve employment opportunities make life better for the majority well it would be a very very difficult thing to do uh president abun in during the campaign said for instance uh that there are about 250,000 graduates a year from argerian universities but he also uh promised that he would create 450,000 jobs during his second term in office if we take only graduates University graduates you're talking about 1.2 1.2 million plus uh graduates and if he succeeds in meeting his Target of creating 450,000 jobs what will happen to the 800,000 graduates not taking into account other unemployed who have not gone to University and so on and so so it's a huge poll to do Algeria is one of the youngest countries in the world and the economic and social difficulties are Del to see inflation is very uh very high and the budget of the milit the military is also uh very high for obvious uh reasons given the geopolitical situation in the country so it would be I don't it would be very very difficult for him uh to resolve those issues uh Yousef if you don't mind just briefly what is uh his relationship like uh with president macron and how important is that for Algeria well France has always been since Independence uh algeria's main uh partner uh his relation uh with France and with macron in particular has been quite turbulent over the last uh few years it's so ups and down but for the time being I do not think that Algeria could do without France and France could do without Algeria there over two million algerians are in France there has been a very long uh history between the two countries there there there was a planned presidential uh visit of taboon uh to France if I remember correctly in October uh that is next month and obviously that will uh uh Define further the next five years the relationship between the two countries Yousef bandal thank you so much Professor thank you
