[Music] so Mateo for further background has been hitting and biting other children and has been having a lot of Behavioral issues but yeah I'm excited to have this this with my response knowing that he was doing all that stuff yeah okay okay but the okay but okay so another question right exactly so does the therapist know he does all that stuff yeah that's his behavioral age yeah that he's been in class with Mateo and oh I see what you're saying I see what you're saying yeah [Music] that's great but it's like we graduated to the 50s [Music] [Laughter] all right are we ready to reveal I don't think yeah yeah okay three two one I guess it is backwards isn't it the first time I gave it a three because like while he clearly has absolutely zero understanding of trauma he at least wasn't shaming the child for the bad behaviors that are happening and he's trying to be empathetic and understanding and he's normalizing that hey sometimes people just have a hard time so three forever what are you doing Pete because I just realized I should be just rating his evaluation as an employee there wow Pete tell us your judgment because three three is too close to four and four is usually the scale the top of the scale and then it will play evaluation in many places so I give him a one yeah I think he should go back to training I agree wow okay why Pete uh awareness lack of awareness big big piece and that's a huge skill in this job and uh and I wonder if there's some kind of like uh I don't know like a Personal Agenda that you had to protect the kid or for them to seem like uh seemed like there was something still there like he was trying to to not allude to interesting yeah like he like he had it in his mind or something that if they have trauma then it means that parents aren't good enough or something so he's just trying to help him feel good enough and enable them yeah all right yes okay I did three uh it's because you looked over here because I'm so good at math no but I wrote I did think a lot about this I wrote three because he did you know active listening at the very least he did say I'm so sorry that you went through that um and but okay this is a behavior Aid he has probably no training at all or maybe a couple weeks of training in something what he should have said is I am not qualified to analyze your child I'm going to refer you out he absolutely should not have said that he uh Mateo the kid does not have any signs of trauma the kid is displaying a lot of signs of trauma um and later on this kid gets diagnosed with I think ADHD and put on a really terrible Behavior plan and then on medication when really yes the issue for Mateo is absolutely and neurobiological issues from trauma and attachment and not having a lot of anxiety aren't like the only signs of trauma no okay not at all so I wanted to give it a zero but he did say I'm sorry you're going through this and he did listen to them great two sentences um are you in the 6.5 out of 10 5 being neutral so it was like one and a half points in the positive um because it seemed like it was very client-centered or client focused he was empathizing uh he was emoting he was relating that is very important in my mind it's a really useful tool for building rapport with the client um I he did not get above a 1.5 in the positive because his lack of trauma awareness and informed treatment and however he is a behavior aide and so I wanted to like judge him as a behavior done as a therapist and so I really think that the parents probably should have gotten a psychiatric evaluation or therapeutic evaluation rather than a behavior Aid so the parents I would probably have given them like a negative one um because they should have gone someone else how are they supposed to know because his dad died and he was abducted and you take them to a child psychiatrist s they never did do that did they it wasn't until later yeah but also like a trauma-informed one right yeah I wouldn't take him to his psychiatrist I definitely death rate like a child some really yummy training right but it's behaviorate's fault because he should have told them where he could have told them to go somewhere else but we're but two parts is at fault here is it the parents is it the behavior Aid is it the school I need to revise my score with the parents I don't think it's the parent's fault I wouldn't give them a negative one but I wouldn't the school a strong negative number because it's an expensive school and they should have had a therapist or psychologist on staff because they could afford that who would be able to say this is a high profile case this is the Immaculate Conception baby his father died traumatically um already like he's being shifted between two parents he was kidnapped yeah I think so there's legal stuff in there I mean they should have documentation that shows this and there should be an illegal verbiage in the in the police reports in in any kind of like uh nephew was kidnapped I'm sure he practically evaluated somewhere yeah all the more faults on the school though and on on the principle there who you know to your point has a Doctorate in Education should be knowing that this is not a child for a behavior Aid this is a child that we should have a licensed fully licensed professional working with because there is so much here and we're not trained for this we're not relied to deal with these kinds of issues not even as a doctorate of Education are you qualified to deal with that level of stuff exactly and the the behavior or anything isn't going to be appropriate for this kid maybe a tiny like maybe two percent of what you would be doing with this kid would be Behavior related but this Behavior attack usually Behavior techs have at least 40 hours of training and a certification and within that training they should be taught what their scope is and what their scope is not so the responsibility also falls because this this guy's probably not certified within the school he's probably certified under some board so for him and his own technical liability he should also be saying this conversation is out of my scope I need to refer you to a professional licensed professional to have this conversation a lot of times will you see that in the school system people think that they have this Authority either because someone said no you can do this you know their higher up said no it's okay go ahead take this for me but it doesn't necessarily give the boundaries right and so they go in there thinking I'm you know I guess I've got to tell them exactly what I think that that my supervisor would tell them if I was sitting here a lot of places have that so it's so important to have these guidelines and and just know where your boundaries are your school of practice are and most parents most people don't know the differences between all the different kinds of certifications and licensures and everything you know a lot of people don't know the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist or a therapist in a you know there's so many different licensures and certifications that the parents are going to trust whoever is acting like they're the authority so the school is actually recommends exactly the school is acting like the authority and their recommendation if this Behavior it is acting like the authority in his conceptualization then they're going to take that as the authorities well and when you get told something is big as no your child chose no signs of trauma like you're gonna take that to heart if he had said whoa I am not qualified to make that assessment right it could have looked very very different and they like it would have been the opening of the door into okay so who do we need to take into to get that uh to be fair on this point I know you said later that he later gets diagnosed with ADHD I think there is something to be said for lack of information more broadly about the influence of trauma like because we have four trauma-informed professionals but it is a normal response our brains are designed to respond that way it's abnormal circumstances exactly and not only is it normal it's adaptive right it is adapted it's a really creative way that the brain figured out how to get around or how to get through without too much damage exactly exactly and so that includes sensory disturbances that includes Behavior disturbances that it just includes thought disturbances there are so many reasons of the brain that get impacted by traumas even in uterus so even the stressful pregnancy even right at Birth you don't have to remember a traumatic memory in order for it to have impacted your brain's development so this whole thing with Mateo so getting all of this discipline all this Behavior it was really harsh Behavior plans that he ended up being on where it was you know rainy days or sunny days and if he had one rainy day it like wiped out all of his sunny days which like wow that's that's not okay as for children children get to have good days and bad days just like the rest of us do and then he stood on medication that completely zombifies him and I think that could have been avoided with some really simple trauma techniques at a young age even some simple ADHD techniques at a young age yeah when there's a huge uh there's a big upcoming with rejection sensitivity and that could be traumatic especially with ADHD you know the people with ADHD and autism often get misdiagnosed so behaviorally they should have you know hopefully there was some more um assessment into what else those behaviors could have been mathematifesting for which comes back to Andrea's Point not enough assessments by the right people my goodness all right are we done yeah in the future or separate cameras so we can just like just pop the person whoever's speaking in to be like yeah blah blah blah no we have to snuggle [Music]
