Numerous states experiencing 911
outages, citing AT&T technical issues MULTIPLE states are reporting 911 system
outages, citing problems with AT&T States most affected so far are
California, Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, Ohio, Florida, and Georgia. Others
are beginning to go offline as well. WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING? AT&T customers across the U.S. are
facing wireless service outages, with many iPhone users reporting their devices
are stuck in "SOS" mode. Issues began after a failure at a switching center led to service
delays and a complete loss of connectivity for several users. Reports of problems
also surfaced on Reddit and Downdetector. AT&T is investigating the
situation, and a spokesperson confirmed they are looking into the cause.
This outage comes a day after AT&T settled an FCC investigation concerning a prior
911 outage and amid ongoing negotiations with the Communications Workers of America
regarding a work stoppage in the Southeast. Reports coming in of 911 services in
several states experiencing outages. AT&T and the 911 service are both showing
major outage report spikes on DownDetector. There has been a reported outage with our
non-emergency and district phone lines.
