Curt Cignetti Talks After Indiana Win over FIU

all right start the open statement and go with n where's my thing all right we ready to go ready to go okay I thought it was a really crisp start jumped up 21 nothing had to click it in all three phases and then uh you know from The Middle second quarter to halftime really sloppy ball on both sides um defenses credit we shut him out in the second half held him under 200 yards thought that was good teams were solid but offense just you know too many uh opportunities squandered you know and then uh the protection and just uh got to get better there well got to learn to play the lead got to learn to play the lead up 21 nothing man got to keep the edge and and uh you know so there's a lot of things we're trying to change here and another thing we're trying to change a tradition is uh we got to keep the people in the in the seats after half time and create a power four environment state but we got to play better too so it's win it's uh something build question left in that you mentioned the environment what's your message to those fans that left at half time and did you know and I think you kind of talked about maybe a couple months ago that need time to build that engagement yeah I think I'm going to focus now on on the game I made my statement and uh we got we have to play better I was disappointed with the way we played when we jumped up 21 but but I did think defensively other than one drive we played well M on your left Zach coach that's what I was going ask you about obviously the last try on defense you know not very good on that you guys really holding that what' you like about how your defense played today uh we wereing the football uh doing a nice job of uh in the past game for the most part put pressure on the quarterback uh create a turnover or two and um so um again under than one drive um I thought I saw pretty significant Improvement um and a team had chance Zack your right to set I guess just following up on them think eight tackles for lost four sacks just how were you with seeing the disruption you were getting at the line of scrimmage of yeah well those tfls and sacks are great I didn't know the numbers we've always been high in tfls and sacks and we have guys that have the ability to do that too so uh you know I think it's something to build on Seth on your left T yeah Kurt uh first for his first game in an i uniform how would you assess Curtis play today you know I thought uh you know he made some plays uh and uh scrambled out of the pocket made a couple plays and then uh the protection broke down a little bit on him he he missed two to four reads which is going to happen in a football game and uh familiarity with uh scheme and things like that just playing more snaps uh we left we left 10 at least 10 plays out there offensively but not the quarterback not the quarter um so yeah uh I like the way he moved around because he had been hit and made some nice stres Tod third row middle graby uh Kurt uh I know you haven't seen film yet but the uh kind of the new guys on the on the interior of the offensive line what was what's kind of your Baseline assessment of them right now without having seen the film and you know I can't you know we had some real nice chunks in the Run game um and most of the pressure I saw was coming off the edge in the pass game so uh you know we would uh get the Run game going in the second half chunks chunks chunks kind of breaking their will then with throw it and you know go backwards or but you know those guys are capable and we're going to be okay there t rabby middle third row Sam yeah coach with uh with what fans saw today like what percentage of your offensive Playbook would you say that we saw today the offense changes week to week based on the opposition you know we threw a couple uh surprise tight plays at him early in the game and they worked and had one again there early in the second half it should have worked for a touchdown and as the game was going on I was wishing that we had a few more to be honest with you you we didn't have that many of them in so um you know want see us play offense like we started those first uh three out of four series Samy back left and Z Coach andw tur came up with what did you show ear that time you know yeah uh walk on and uh you know plays really hard and he's smart and you know he does what he's supposed to do because our defense is pretty heavy uh you know there's a lot of adjustments and there's some read reading react after uh Ball's been snapped based on how lineman play and he's a real Dependable guy and uh that's all we needed was somebody over there at that particular time to sort of do what he was to do because there were play to be made Zack on your right and Jack coach the transfer transfers account for 360 414 yards of offense today what does that say about your cut your staff and your guys ability to bring in the right guys then get them ready for week one most of those guys are proven guys you know what I mean so um you know we've made some plays out there weable make jack on your left and Daniel we didn't out there for you know a lot of the game what's he been dealing with and long we got him you know he was getting involved early and took a uh got got hit and um went back in there for a little bit and then U that was it for him so U you know we see what happens Dan right in front Jim it was he he wasn't medically clear to go back you all ran well I want to say averaged a little under six yards of carry how kind of evaluate the way that um the rushing is attack kind of play today yeah there was some nice creases and some nice Cuts nice chunks and now we got to take the next step and you know a little bit better downfield blocking or breaking the tackle here and there those 12 and 13 yard games become 25 and 30 and 40 but I was really impressed with Elijah green that last play I mean he broke through there with a two- line and uh showed speed and burst and they couldn't catch it Jim in front then n coach a lot of rushing yards today and I know that penalties are something that drives you insane uh eight penalties on the offense today was that just due to being the first game a little bit of fatigue coming in eight of the nine penalties on the offense yeah good job defense um too many penalties uh there were quite a few penalties and scrimmages it was a focus to eliminate penalties um but I think when you look around college football um you're seeing that in the openers right now it's almost like they're teachable moments and they learn from up the next game I'm not uh making an excuse by any means because we didn't want to have any uh I am pleased that we didn't have turnovers because I was worried about penalties and turnovers so we don't have uh to teach that uh which was good so but we got to do better in that area here's last one you talk a lot fall camp in Spring just about the dep receiver and roach those guys how you know who kind of dictates when those guys come in and out and how and how happy were you with kind of the the depth you showed there with you know during the I thought early on they made some plays and cross made a really nice catch and uh you know we just want them to play fast and you know if they play four five six plays in a row and all a sudden they run a deep route and try to get new group in there and sometimes we'll we'll sub out a whole uh three wide group for another three wide so getting playing fast we have a lot of capable guys all right thanks
