Boise State, Homedale great Scott Matlock's high school jersey retired

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's not just because he's a once in a lifetime football player, Scott's a once in a lifetime person. I mean, he'll take the time to talk to anyone. He's that person and he truly cares. His heart is, is as big as he is. He set the standard for us. He had big dreams that he wanted to accomplish. And from day one, you could tell he was gonna work towards those dreams just watching him and the kids being able to watch him and see how passionate and determined he was. It made everyone else around him that much better. And uh he helped take our program to the next level. Scott Matlock, the pride of Homedale High school returned to the place where his NFL dreams began, began. They were a distant uh thought at the time he was a Trojan, but he went on a start for the Boise State football team before getting drafted by the L A Chargers. Today, there was a planned party in Homedale following their final high school pre practice of summer. Trojan's head coach, Matt Holtry announced the school is retiring. Matlock's number 44 Jersey, family friends and pretty much the whole town of Homedale gathered for the celebration as holtry said, Sure, Matlock help elevate the Homedale program. But if you ask Matlock, he'll tell you how the program helped elevate him. Definitely a big part of the story and I'd probably say, you know, the most important part of the story. It was definitely the part of, you know, the part of my life where it could have went one or two ways and, uh, obviously it went the better of the two ways and everything happened for a reason. And, um, you know, we were able to, to accomplish great things and, uh, obviously I'm just getting started, but definitely one of the best things that could happen to me, honestly, not looking back coming out, kind of having that culture shock of Homedale. I, you know, whatever else come from Boise, but it was the best thing. Um, I think that could happen to me. Very grateful for it. Homedale pulled off the celebration just in time Scott leaves tomorrow and begins training camp with the Chargers next week.
