What is EEE virus? What is the triple E virus? Triple E is known as the eastern equine encephalitis virus. Another name for it is equine viral encephalomyelitis. What does EEE virus do? What does triple E do? Triple E causes brain swelling and spine swelling in humans. Paralysis, seizures and brain damage as well. How do you get EEE virus? How do you get triple E? Some mosquitoes carry triple E, and when they bite you, the virus gets into your blood. These mosquitoes live in North America, in the Eastern or Gulf Coast states. Can EEE virus kill you? Can triple E kill you? Yes, triple E can kill you. But only five out of 100 people who get the triple E virus from a mosquito bite will develop brain swelling and other signs of the disease. After that, one out of three people who develop triple E will die, and people who survive often have brain damage. People over 50 years old and children under 15 years old are more likely to get brain swelling, known as encephalitis, which can lead to brain damage, paralysis or death. How can you avoid EEE virus?
