College Football 25 | Boeing Apple Cup Series | UW Huskies Dynasty Episode 3

yeah yeah [Music] yeah the apple cup is a major college football rivalry game between Washington State University and the University of Washington the first game took place in the 1900s and it was held in Seattle the game was officially named the apple cup in 1962 and is named after Washington's reputation as a well-known Apple producer last year's Apple Cup game the final score was Washington Huskies 24 and Washington State Cougars 21 that game let the Huskies to finish off the season 12-0 last year now it's a new season a new game and with a new roster freshman safety Payton Waters played a great game against Eastern Michigan he scored 101 yard interception return that shocked the huskys crowd and also the huskys r in Russell Davis thei finished the game with one sack five tackles for lost which made him the Big 10 defensive player of the week versus Eastern Michigan and as for the quarterback Will Rogers he still has to improve and step up as the Husky starting quarterback for one touchdown and two interceptions thrown Rogers most definitely understands he needs to play way better Will Rogers lead this team to 3 and 0 against Washington State let's find out and [Music] see it's called the greatest setting in college football and even if the Skies open up that pales in comparison to the Purple Rain that will be Unleashed by the homestanding Washington huskys little gets the blood boil quite like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see a squad from the Pack 12 the Washington State Cougar taking on the 19 Frank team in the land the Washington Huskies for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one [Music] up Washington likely to try to Bo it deep to get things [Applause] started coming out with it team this CLE all the way back the beginning of the offse you got to be theep to make the Stop and that play shows you really what this defense is about that's a difficult [Applause] really and first and the cing quickly down the [Applause] field wants toow on first down that's caught it's [Applause] [Applause] hson he's going to pass it's caugh down field they'll run it from the gun thanks to a big hit youring to be so good as a quer because they open and they so quickly this part of and he's got it Washington State let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look and they take another look at the play but the officials on the field were right and the play will stand and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing so Washington's off will have it first possession of the game as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply what the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that from the gun they'll give it on the inside still running at the 40 they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 fast motion from the offense they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one defense was prepared and I'm really impressed by the ey right now that's not easy to do it's not easy to locate that receiver coming across in motion with good timing and getting the Jet Sweep but they were ready for that on the run it's Coleman on Third and short they keep it on the ground here really nice job there on the third down of this opening drive for his offense I can't wait to see what kind of game this guy's going to do wide open down field defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming it and they need one more yard slams it ahead that play just never had a chance a knock him down for a loss of five and on fourth down defensiv [Applause] [Applause] for all the way out to the 16 got it behind the line it'ss they are Al we've got this third down play open [Applause] thearter looking to [Applause] throw on Third and long he has to throw for it [Applause] and he thr and the quarterback goes down 17 backto back def could consist Washington State sends out the unit he's got great speed he's going to get and Washington is ready always to get on Drive I think it's great to get points with a great team touchdowns in the red area and Hees way into the end Z so exposive put small Drives together big Drives together really had a great here that's why they're a top 10 off just another week of college football where we expect the unexpected how about that I know Kevin and those guys keeping an eye on him third [Applause] down from the gun wants to pass got his the down thirri the [Applause] off remember how the defense reacted to it quick tackle can't find the man and he'll be down so I don't expect this off change too [Applause] much RAC and he's still on his feet but finally out of bound after the big one this you know you have to tackle the catch this guy gets the ball so dangerous so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground going to keep it after the snap he's Lo and he'll take it to the house touchdown husk well this offense is the country in points per game because they've got a lot of speed they are going to be a problem for defenses all year long Washington state has it back and they'll send the offense onto the field so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe to swing the momentum in their favor coach said all week he wanted to be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points before going into Captain he wants to throw fires to the right all kinds of room he's looking for an open man on second down and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before half time third and long and he'll try to throw for it fires to the Z and it's caught touchdown wazo touch the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this the comeb back's in full effect that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halim update thanks so much guys and I need not tell you rivalry games always bring out a ton of emotion and no Sur we saw just that in the first half today this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out he'll bring it out from inside as 10 they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I don't think defensively they do it again dropping back it's Rogers going to try to pop one on the screen shakes off the defend great job too by the QB there holding the ball as long as possible the pass rush to get up field and on second down he'll fire coming after and the ball comes out what a disastrous play down and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight never a doubt for this big footed guy 49 yd field goal is [Applause] [Music] good the offense lining up for a first down play a Jet Sweep pass picks up the first down still moving look up there he goes he's looking to throw got a man it's Hudson you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now looking to throw on third got it into the end zone down Washington state washingon if this dude were a kitchen knife he would be slicing tomatoes so thin your in-laws would never come back to your house this defense they've had absolutely no answers for him and the extra point puts him on top by one wide receiver now comes in motion looking to throw it's Rogers he lets fly deep from the gun wants to pass fires left Huskies will be forced to boot it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one makes a move put together a drive like that I would do more the same keep the pace keep it going he's going to look for a man on Third and short oh they really could haveed use that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth now Washington State sends the punt team onto the field to the air it's Rogers looking down the middle finds a tie well I got to know when that guy comes in motion he's a legit threat they did and you can tell they P the children went made a nice play killer now it's second and 13 unloads to the wide out got him down field there to make the Stop and we played three in this one that's end of the quarter and Washington state has the lead now the task is finished the deal as you take a look at the third quarter steps on Third and long try to convert through the air and the defense makes a play sacking him back at the 10 and this field goal might be their chance to save themselves is [Music] andin teams [Applause] quarterback checking off looking to go up top on first down man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out this is a third andan the field he's going to throw they get just over there in business here with the first down so this off with an opportunity to put this game in a hammer loock if they can score and leave the clock it's complete he gets it in [Applause] touchdown especially down the red zonea last time d drive that sometimes put your def in a badot you got get dve DEF out I just think Dave too predictable that lastri they got to do something here to get this defense and now you just he's looking to throw fires the intercepted got on the return he's the [Applause] be and on a guy isap cover saw it on that play what can this guy do open up third anding thr again and Away incoe the defensive in it away now possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down and theyt easy easy catching the pass on second down grab it'ss the looking for the score this is Hard Away touchdown so let's not put this one to bed just yet the offense will quickly use a timeout touchdown was huge but they have to get the two here to make it a one possession game they'll try to it ining possession game they were ready for the side kick and executed perfectly would just be a 30yd field goal try let's see how aggressive they're going to be to try to pick up that first down trying to get to it pressure is on the way and the pressure has arrived and down he goes at the 30 defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense knocked it right through showing that big range from 48 yd out on Third and long he'll have to turn it loose deep kind of kickers they'll leave the offense out there to try to move those chains he's taking a deep shot late in the game fires and picked off you know what's great about rivalry games each side hates every wretched breath the other one sucks into their greedy lungs figuratively speaking of course and when you win it's glorious to to be able to brag to be able to text message your buddies to be able to post stuff on social media it's a lot of fun I think fans like it more than anybody but it's something that you every year you have a couple games start this was one of them Jesse they took care of business and now you move on to the next they really did we saw some great individual efforts in this game by the winning team too so cool to see some of these players that have had terrific Collegiate careers make some of the biggest plays of their lives in this game in game that just means so much this was a fun one to call so that's going to do it for us
