Craig Gordon DROPPED from Euro squad: His emotional and classy reaction

all right I'll survive fire8 Steve final game before the Euros what your take away from tonight yeah good good exercise uh up until the head coach started to make changes for no apparent reason I thought I thought it was really good obviously towards the end your that period of the game we we' started to earb Bar players who played minutes who needed to come off Andy was actually feeling a little but nauseous nauseous at half time so I'll let them stay on for a little bit till we got couple of goals in front and then thought I'd make the changes after that you sort of lose concentration you get towards the end the L are thinking about what's going to happen on Sunday we traveling to Germany obviously so they're human beings I think if you look at even look at the England result towards the these types of games are difficult but I was really pleased with a lot of what I saw tonight relief for you there were no no injuries well we still got bumps and bruises in the dressing room so you never you never get too carried away I'd like to think that our current run of injuries is ended and there's no more to to worry about but as it's been a bad week so I'll wait until I'm Wai until I've got the all clear from everybody tomorrow they unfortunate are the the strange thing is we have to put the the final Squad in straight away tonight so we'll do that yeah you you've confirmed your final score can you talk us through your your decisions there well obviously I like a BAL in Squad I think I've picked a balance Squad uh wasn't going to take four goalkeepers was was a really tough decision to to leave Craig out when you think of the injury he's come back from I just felt that over the period of time that he'd been back and and hadn't become the number one at Hearts again he' only seven games and since December 2022 is a long time and obvious You' got the dynamic of the squad the three goalkeepers had been involved in every every qualification match so was a really tough uh conversation with Craig was quite emotional to be honest uh for both of us I think but the mark of the man is that he's here tonight because at the end of the conversation I said listen I understand if you don't like me and you don't you don't want to do this I said but I would like to give you the 75th cap in the game at Hampton tomorrow in front of a good good crowd I could have done it in Jala I didn't want to do that I wanted to do it here at hton and the mark in the man is he was there and within one hour of telling him the news he was down having dinner with the lads in the meetings uh all the way so great professional end of the game we gave him a little reward with signed be all the lads Craig Gordon or Gordon 75 caps 75 on the back of his jersey and as I was difficult for you people to imagine how difficult it is for to sit down with with people who've always given their best for the country when I've selected them and and to get so close to get so close to the margin obviously the the conversations were done fac to face this time the last time because of Co and whatever those types of conversation were done over the telephone I'm pleased that I made the decision to bring a slightly bigger Squad because obviously we've had one or two issues over the over the time uh and it means that I get the chance to look the boys in the eye they get the chance to look me in the eye and I think they understand how difficult is for me and I also really really understand how difficult is for them but very professional both guys looking at the the boys that you called in this week Tommy Conway Le Morgan what' you make of them it was nearly a dream debut for for Tommy nearly had in a winner just at the end didn't it yeah he should have scored should have scored but it show it shows uh that he does get in goal scoring positions uh he's capable of doing that he just told me he's saving the goals for Germany so that's fine I'll let him off with that uh Lou coming in just off a long flight over from America uh yesterday and looked good looked Lively when they come on so good additions to the squad obviously when you lose players that you've you've selected initially you're always thinking okay what can we do to make the squad better and I think both boys will come in and and do okay for us just finally from me Steve obviously we've known about qualification for such a long time the opening game seven days away are you happy with where the team are how' you feel how'd you feel heading over to Germany on on Sunday morning I'm delayed I think the team's in a good place uh we we know what we have within our group we know that the the buildup games and whatever the the runner friendlies or difficult friendlies we picked them so that the players understand how difficult it is against top teams and how good they're going to have to be in this tournament they know that I know that we'll go away have a nice day off tomorrow clear our
