hey guys so welcome to Fantasy Football 2024 and uh I apologize for not being completely decked out in all my fantasy gear but it's a little bit uh a little bit early and it's Labor Day weekend and I'm trying to get this out to basically give you guys a easy step-by-step tutorial on how to go ahead and get started in fantasy football so for the sake of this tutorial we're going to go ahead and we're going to be looking at Yahoo and you guys should have already gotten an invite to come to the yah uh sports fantasy football league super simple to use uh I'm embarrassed to say I've been doing this for over 20 years so it's not all that complicated and even if it's your first time there are so many things that the system can do to help you as you go through it but let me just give you some Basics fantasy football is a way for you to play against your friends family whoever in a way where you are betting on certain players not teams so I don't care if your favorite team is the 49ers the Jets the Cowboys whoever it is it's really about the players on each team and each position and how they do on that particular week so in in NFL season there's 17 regular season weeks and there's one by which means that there is one week off so you have to take that into account uh when you are drafting your team and figuring out who you want to have on your team uh there's also playoffs but for Fantasy because of the fact that not every team makes it into the playoffs the fantasy season is over when the regular season finishes so this does not go until February it really runs kind of towards the end of the regular year uh right before the playoffs start so actually the last weeks of the regular season are your Super Bowl in a fantasy league so let me go ahead and kind of give you guys a quick rundown on what you'll be looking at so if you log into your uh fantasy and you've already gotten your link and you've gotten connected uh where you're going to start is going to be kind of on your team page and you can see in here this is going to give you a breakdown of a few things now our draft for this particular league is in exactly one day and no hours 35 minutes 47 seconds so we'll be drafting on September 3rd at 6:30 p.m. central daylight time what that means is we're going to have to pick players one at a time until we're able to fill in our roster and our roster in this case shows you right here on the right hand side we need one quarterback okay two wide receivers two running backs one tight end and then we have what's called a flex player this is either a wide receiver a running back or a tight end it could be any of the three whoever you think is the best for that week then you've got a kicker we'll have a team defense which means instead of having to play uh pick players on the defense we're gonna pick the whole team say that you think that the you know uh Chicago Bears have the best defense and you you're like that's that's the team I want to have so uh the system will actually pick points in different areas maybe for interceptions or for sacks things like that uh then you have your bench now the bench are all the people you are not playing that week and when you draft you're GNA you can draft great guys that you don't play because you'll let's say somebody gets injured or let's say it's their bye you need to substitute them in you want to have backup people on your bench finally we have injured reserve okay that means if if a team puts somebody on injured reserve you get two extra spots or up to two extra spots if two of your starters go on injured reserve uh great example last year Aaron Rogers who played for the Jets for 70 seconds before he was lost for the season he went into injured reserve so I was able to get an extra pick uh to be able to fill in that spot so the kind of drafts that most people do are what is called a string draft and what a string draft is and this gives you an example let's say that there's eight people in your league and you're the first pick and that usually sounds like a great pick to be so let's say Bob is the first pick in a string draft so in round one he gets to pick anybody he wants that's available out there so he picks his favorite pick and then the second person goes the third person goes all the way through the eighth person now when they get to the eighth person though the eighth person gets a second pick right because now then they're going to go work backwards so they go 1 2 3 4 5 six seven 8 87654321 so Bob doesn't pick again until the 16th pick of the draft in this case but then Bob gets the first pick of the next round as well so basically round one Bob is the first pick round two Bob is the last pick round three Bob is the first pick so if you're asking yourself and saying hey you know I wonder maybe it's be better to be like the middle of the pile I agree with you I think usually being like if a if you have a you know an eight person uh Team like this or eight teams in your league being fourth or fifth is probably not a bad place to be um but you also you know don't get maybe the top top picks in the draft so that's what most of you guys will be going through is what's called a string draft now people get worried when it comes to actually drafting their team and the way that that works is uh you're going to look in here and you're going to see there's a player list if you click on player list you're going to get a list of all the players ranked in the positions where Yahoo thinks that they should be ranked for your league so in other words if your uh league is very very highly rated on touchdowns in this case they put Christian mcaffrey from the San Francisco 49ers they think that he'll get the most uh fantasy points this year they think that uh based on their projections today he'll get 288 points for the entire season and you can see here that they're saying his bye is week nine right and there's also so uh sometimes these little things in red which I'm not going to go through all of them but like for example for him it says Q which is questionable so they're saying there might be a problem and you can click on these little notes up here and you can get more information on him and what the latest news is but uh it'll give you a good overview that you can pick from now if you really like Christian you're thinking hey I really want to you know when I go to draft I want to remember Christian you can go and actually click on him over here and and the star will light up and that way uh he becomes part of your draft list and this is important too because one of the things that I want to tell you guys about if you're overwhelmed with the idea of fantasy and how do I pick my team and I don't know players and I don't even know what a te is what is a tight end that's okay because the system will draft for you if you wanted to and you can even do a combination where like oftentimes I will be on a zoom with my friends in California doing a draft with them and then after we've gone through like four or five rounds all the top guys are gone especially because we have 12 people in our our league so after five rounds we've we've gone through 60 70 people so after that I kind of might let the system pick the rest of my team for me because I've filled in all the main spots that I need to fill in you can do the same thing and even start it from the very first pick but the problem is at that point you're kind of at the you know at the whim of whatever the system picks for you so that's up to you to kind of take your take your chances with that but as you go through it you'll see that on the day of the actual draft there'll be a very professionall looking draft uh draft live drafting thing I don't know how to what what you'd call it but Yahoo will have a link that'll pop up and you're going to have a lot of flexibility as to adding people to your draft list or whatever putting it on our draft turning it off never worry about missing anything uh usually the first few rounds go very quickly later rounds go a little bit slower so um yeah it's kind of fun I will get into another video later that kind of gets into breaking down how to set lineups and do things like this but for the first phase of the season this is what you want to do if you want to see people in different positions for example on the same page this is all offensive positions okay I could change it and say look I just want to see the top ranked quarterbacks right and I could look at last year's numbers um I could look at uh you know what they're saying projecting for this year right that would be a season projection um there's a lot of different ways that you can look at so you may want to pick the top people from last year but don't forget they've also drafted new running backs wide receivers quarterbacks from the uh from colleges and they're going to be playing this year too so there's a lot of names you may not see from last year that could be the big names for uh 2024 2025 uh anyway once you kind of pick the positions you want to look up you just hit filter and it will show you uh those people listed down below so Josh Allen right now he is listed as the number one quarterback going into next year if you want to look for a particular uh player let's say you want to look for Brock py you could just put in his name and um his information will come up and again you can see all the information on him where he's ranked all those good things so that should give you a pretty good overview of how to start fantasy football it's a lot of fun I definitely recommend that you get in but remember you've got to click on the link your invite link that you were sent you want to do that first thing uh if you don't have a Yahoo account just set up a simple Yahoo account it only takes a few uh seconds to do it and uh once you've got that set up uh you can join your fantasy league that somebody's invited you to and League drafting for uh for the season has to be done I Believe by Wednesday at midnight first game is on Thursday so you've got to make sure that you've got that done right away don't miss out on what could be a great year if you guys have any questions feel free to reach out to me I'm happy to help with any questions that come up and like I said I'll send out a couple other videos to help out with the basics
