bringing you the latest updates now regarding the death toll from the listeria outbreak tied to Boris head deli meat continues to rise unfortunately. we are learning now that 57 people have been hospitalized in 9 people. have died, the CDC. is now calling this outbreak, the largest since 2011 for more on the state's affected in the foods Linked to this listeria outbreak right now. Oh yeah. very scary and they're uh, was a history of some violations at this plant in Virginia. leading up to this listeria outbreak. But you mentioned the latest numbers. increasing. according to the CDC 9 people. Now dead with 57 others hospitalized. in connection to the outbreak. That is the largest listeria outbreak since 2011. So, take a look, here are some of the nearly 70 Boars Head deli, meats impacted, several kinds of ham bologna bacon, and sausage. boers had recalled, 7.2 million pounds of deli meat after samples of unopened products tested positive for the bacteria. that causes listeriosis. so far 18 states have seen cases the 9 people who have died live in South Carolina or lived in South Carolina. Illinois. Virginia, New Mexico. Florida. Tennessee. New Jersey and New York. border. Had said in a statement. quote, we deeply regret the impact, This recall has had on affected families. No words can fully express our sympathies and the sincere and deep hurt. We feel for those who have suffered losses or endured illness the poorest had plant, where the outbreak came from is in jarratt, Virginia. it. Shut down right now, while the Company disinfects it and according to USDA documents obtained by CBS News, food, safety inspectors flagged issues at that plant. 69 times in the past year, some of the problems include deli meat being left on equipment. molds. or mildew buildup. pooling water and issues with insects. a class action lawsuit has been filed against Boris head by some of the people. uh who ate the products including a pregnant woman who claimed that she nearly lost her unborn child because of the illness. and doctors say listeria symptoms can be severe. people that develop symptoms, most commonly will develop a a stomach. uh, illness and can have some nausea vomiting and diarrhea. Certainly not pleasant the symptoms also. can sometimes take up to 10 weeks to present themselves after eating. contaminated food. So make sure you check your fridge and throw out any contaminated products.
