so the Pack 12 has a massive update coming out here where they have officially added four new teams to the conference and today we're going to talk about what this means we're also going to talk a little bit about you know the college football playoffs and what the Pack 12 has to do in order to be eligible for that automatic bid plus there's some other updates coming out as well let's talk about this so the Pack 12 has officially added Boise State Fresno State San Diego State and Colorado State so you had four teams to a conference that only had two teams left in Oregon State and Washington State as you guys know uh the other 10 teams essentially went to uh three separate conferences right to me the Pack 12 I thought was done I'm not going to lie to you guys I thought the Pack 12 would essentially dissolve with the two remaining teams going to maybe the Mountain West or you know maybe another conference and I was pretty confident that the Pack 12 would not be around and surprisingly they were able to you know push back surprisingly they were able to add a couple of teams and apparently there's other teams that are that are potentially wanting to join the Pack 12 and then the Pack 12 will have to add more teams right they cannot stay at six teams and continue to be a part of the FBS uh the FBS conference has a rule that if you have schools leave and you fall underneath that 18 threshold essentially you're not going to be a part of the FBS which also means you know you lose that uh you know you you you lose that uh you I I don't want to say it but you know essentially you you lose that you're no longer part of like that power five right and once you lose that then to me as a conference you kind of downgrade as a conference and no disrespect to some of the other conferences out there uh but the Pack 12 is one of the powerhouses in my opinion and to keep the FBS to to stay within the FBS conference I think is going to be a big part of it so that means that they'll have to add at least two more teams right so they got six teams um we'll talk about the teams that they could potentially add because uh there is a report that the Pack 12 has actually spoken to many many many teams besides just these four apparently there's like 12 or 13 teams that have applied to potentially join the Pack 12 and they've selected these four so far which is a great start and they probably won't add any more this year which is okay uh the FBS conference does give you two years to get back above so we're in year one by next year they'll have to add at least two more teams they still won't be eligible for that automatic bid um you know so the winner of every conference right will automatically get the one through five seeds in the 12 seed playoff bid or in the 12 seed you know college playoff bracket essentially and then the other seven seeds will essentially be filled with uh with the remaining seven best best teams right uh so the Pack 12 will be one of the top five seeds essentially right whoever whoever ends up winning the Pack 12 and uh to me that's the best way to do it right because they're giving every conference an opportunity to make it in the college playoffs and then have an opportunity to potenti you win on top of that and uh they actually won't be eligible though so the Pack 12 winner will not be eligible this year obviously and then as well as next year um you know what's interesting about the Pack 12 adding these teams is you know if you're the Mountain West there's nothing you can do at this point right at the end of the day the new media rights agreement is worth a lot more than what the Mountain West has and I think that's a part of being in that FBS conference the partnership potential being associated with the pack told brand right 100 plus years of Rich history pack to has and uh another thing to note is there is going to be an exit fee that's going to have to be paid so each team will have to pay about $17 million to the Mountain West directly and then the Pack 12 will have to add about $10 to1 million on top of that and they'll have to pay that to the Mountain West as well so the Mountain West Pack 12 actually had an agreement which I don't know why the Pack 12 had this agreement with them but uh you know they had an agreement where essentially if a team left either conference to go to the other conference uh the conference that's receiving the team will have to pay the other conference 10 to1 million so uh anywhere from 27 to $30 million is what the Mountain West will receive from the Pack 12 for every team coming over so you got already four teams just kind of do the math on that you know1 110 plus million dollars essentially um the Pack 12 will be able to afford that and uh these teams it'll be worth it for them as well right longterm it'll be worth it it'll pay off now one of the interesting things to know is the pack does have to add teams let's talk a little bit about that because I think one of the things that people might not recognize is you know these six teams are good teams but these six teams aren't National Championship caliber teams at least not yet right they can build up to that point but they're they're not that yet right uh Boise State obviously has a rich history um you know multiple championships I know it was a different time but they still had multiple championships in the past uh Fresno State I would say is probably the team that I think has has a a chance to compete at some point down the line obviously not this year but you know one of the things with fral state that I don't think people realize is from a geography standpoint you know fral state is not that far away from the bay area right it's like four or five hours from the Bay Area um Sacramento is not that far from Fresno State and then Los Angeles isn't that far from from Fresno State obviously so fral State could get the you know potentially the best California players obviously most of those guys are going to end up going to to you know Stanford or or Cal or even uh USC maybe some schools will even go to uh UCLA or some guys go to UCLA and they do have to compete with that but there's a lot of people in California right there's a lot of players coming out and I think Fresno State every year always has solid players um you know there there there's guys that are transferring leaving Fresno State all the time then they end up going to you know an SEC school or uh a you know Big 10 or whatever it is and and you know a year two years and then maybe they make it into the NFL right so the Pack 12 to me Fresno State specifically I think should be one of the teams that should be able to make some noise obviously don't sleep on Boise State you know Oregon state has also produced some good players as as Washington state right Washington State I believe Abraham Lucas came from Washington State Oregon state has a really good guard and Joshua gray right now he's going to be an NFL caliber player as well so there's some good players that come from some of these schools so uh we'll see what ends up happening as we go forward but uh uh let's talk about teams that they could actually add because some people are talking that hey there's a lot of schools that you could potentially add uh some people are saying hey there's no reason why UNLV as well as Nevada should not be a part of this I wouldn't mind those two schools I think they're good schools UNLV I think would be you know a potential team you want to add especially because of the Las Vegas um you know the Las Vegas area as a whole is one of those are you want to try to capture but you might also want to add some Texas teams you know utap SMU might be teams to Target um I think the Texas Market is a big Market as well but you definitely got to Target the the southern market right if if you're the Pack 12 uh because you have you know you have Fresno you have San Diego you have Colorado and Idaho you have Oregon you have Washington right uh to me Texas is a market you want to try to get and I think a team like SMU uh even to l Lan could be an interesting option down down at least on the southern side uh there's some good schools out there that you can Target and that'll widen that market UNLV is obviously another team to kind of widen the market um Nevada could potentially be another team although you know I think UNLV Nevada they're they're good schools but you know it's they're a little bit different right I think UNLV is probably going to have more success down the line although Nevada could you know have some success as well but UNLV you know they they have a a great field there's a lot that happens in Las Vegas that I think could be attractive for a Pack 12 team or a Pack 12 Conference I should say but then there's some FCS options as well that you have to consider um and I know you might not be able to bring these guys in but like North Dakota state is a is a baller ass team right we saw them super close to Colorado which Colorado might be another team you might consider right Colorado might potentially move over although they might not actually move over but uh you know some FCS gools that are that are interesting you know North Dakota state has won a lot of championships as well at the FCS level um South Dakota State another team stud team producing NFL talent and those two teams know what they're doing Montana State's having a lot of success this year that's another team you might want to consider I think it would be smart for the Pack 12 to add at least two or three FCS teams that'll get you up to nine and then maybe you target you LV SMU tan utap maybe you target those teams and you get up to that 12 I think it's important for the Pack 12 not to only hit that eight team minimum threshold I think it's important to get back to 12 teams right you want to within the conference have two separate conferences right or at least be able to split the teams in in just a way where it might be easier in terms of travel to be able to play one another um you know I don't know I I think it's interesting and and then uh the packt has this work cut out for them um but I think this is the best way forward for the Pack 12 and I'm actually glad the Pack 12 is not dissolving I'm glad that they're able to put it together um they're able to take the sponsorships and the brand and you know understand the market of what they're kind of bringing in from a TV deal and they're able to take that and they're able to take that to the uh you know to the to the market essentially right and ATT trct the highest bidder essentially so I'm excited interesting news coming out here let me know what you guys think in the comments below thumbs up subscribe and I will see you guys next time with another video
