Country Stars’ Tearful Toby Keith Tribute Concert

[Music] last night dozens of country music stars were on hand at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to pay tribute to a country music icon Toby Keith he passed away back on February 5th surrounded by family after a courageous battle with stomach cancer a statement released said Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th surrounded by his family he fought his fight with Grace and courage Toby Keith was immensely proud of his Oak Oklahoma Roots growing up in Oklahoma City working in the oil fields After High School it was in 1993 that Toby would have his breakout hit with what is now an iconic song should have been a cowboy he would go on to record countless hit songs including 2002's Courtesy of the Red White and Blue which was inspired by the 911 Terror attacks the tribute concert called Toby Keith American Icon featured a number of Unforgettable moments it featured A-list stars like Eric Church jelly roll Luke Bryan Laney Wilson and Carrie Underwood just a name a few the special tribute show was taped by NBC and is scheduled to air on August 28th Laney Wilson made quite the entrance during the tribute show last night entering on Horseback for a rendition of Beer for My Horses alongside Jamie [Applause] Johnson and in this emotion moment during the tribute show Toby's daughter Crystal who herself is also a musician performed a powerful rendition of don't let the old man [Music] in CL and Trace Atkins took the stage to sing American Soldier and gave an emotional speech about his friend Toby and his love for America I've known Toby for a long time and we toured together several times over the years did a lot of shows together so um I just I just remember that every show he did he always the last thing he said before he walked off the stage was never apologize for being patrio he said it every night and I knew when he was saying it that it was a challenge to the rest of us but also it was a look inside who Toby Keith was because by God he believed that and and he uh the the love and respect that he had for the men and women that sered this country it was marrow deep it was it was profound it was genuine it was real and I always respected him so much for that wasn't a [Music] show I could talk all night about Toby but I'm just going to say that uh I was proud to have known him and called him a [Music] friend thanks dog Miss I don't do it for the money there's bills that I can't I don't do it for the glory I just do of course there were plenty of upbeat moments during the evening as well with Florida Georgia Lions Tyler Hubbert leading a rendition of Red Solo Cup he got a little mixed up on the second verse but you could tell he was having fun but he wanted to restart it to make sure that it was good enough for [Music] Toby can we redo that second verse we can't Toby like this yeah I really in video of Toby Keith's final recording session was revealed during the event Hardy revealed that Keith had been taped during a recording session for hick tape they synced up that tape with Keith vocals and a live house band played ships that don't come in for the fans and [Music] attendance in Stars Pack the stage as Parker McCollum and Friends sang Curtis of the Red White and Blue in memory of Toby [Music] Keith it's great to see so many people coming together to honor a country music icon for those who couldn't attend this will air on NBC on August 28th rest in peace Toby Keith and that's your latest update from country cast if you're new here be sure to subscribe with notifications on for the latest news and updates
