welcome back to another episode of hot takes the motorcycle show for busy people who love motorcycles and today we've got an exciting topic for you and that is the crash that happened this weekend at Oregon in Moto GP so what happened well Alex Marquez was in the lead and bagnah had caught him very quickly he had closed a 1.5 second or almost 2 second gap down to almost nothing very very quickly he's right on the back of Alex Marquez and then Alex Marquez goes into a chicane and as he's going through the left turn he runs a little bit wide and then he goes into the right turn bagnah saw an opening and went for the overtake rode around the outside of him and then Cuts in and they came together and it was a very bad looking accident fortunately both of the Riders are okay it was very scary looking whenever a rider in this case bagah ends up underneath a bike it's not a good situation at all all he was very very fortunate to have not been injured in that accident so whose fault was it well it that's a very complex question and people are very quick to to place blame even Riders In Moto GP are split some of them say it's bai's fault some of them say it's Alex's fault and some of them say it's neither's fault so what's correct let's break it down bagnah he sees Alex Marquez run wide and he goes for that overtake you can't blame him most Riders would do that so when he goes into that turn he is forced into a tight line so the situation with the grip on the track is the fact that there is only grip in the racing line if you stray out of that racing line even a meter you have no grip and you're going to crash so if he had gone out wide like he really should have done he probably would not have made the corner so that's a tick in his box that he is not at fault so he also said that Alex opened the throttle while he was going through the turn and as soon I entered Corner then I I hear his his engine opening he was opening the throttle so he was uh trying to arrive to this contact so he had run wide he realized that he had lost time he knows that bagnah is right on him so any racer is going to open the throttle and try and hold their position that is what a racer is going to do when Alex went into the turn he could not see bagnia and bagah assumed that he knew that he was there and would avoid because racing rules say that the one is in front if you can show him your front tire then he should give way to you you then he has to avoid you they do not have mirrors on these bikes they cannot look behind them when they're in a turn and it's not possible for them to know what's going on behind so they are not responsible for what's going on behind however with overtakes you should have a certain level of care and you should allow someone to have space to avoid you most of these guys are breaking at near the limit of what the bikes are able to do and in this particular situation by the time they were to the point where they were coming together Alex was already committed he was already leaned over on that side of the bike so first of all he couldn't see Baga because bagia is on the other side of the bike remember they lean so far that their elbows are dragging they're way way way off the bike so anyone on that side of the bike they cannot see and then once you're on that edge of the tire you cannot slow down very much they can barely break at that point or else they're going to completely crash once you're on the edge of the tire there's only so much you can do and so he ran into bagnaia because essentially he didn't have any other choice at that point so whose fault was it well I would say it's 50/50 uh bagah should have been more careful when he was overtaking now we have to remember that Baga has the most to lose here he is the championship he was the championship leader going into this round and is not anymore he had a lot more to lose he had a lot more speed so he should have been more careful my one of my First Reactions when I saw the accident was he didn't have to do that he didn't have to take so much risk because he had so much speed he could have picked the point to overtake Alex now it's understandable that he saw his opportunity and he went for it it's unfortunate that he ended up in a position and he knew where Alex was he put Alex in that position and he assumed that Alex would roll off the throttle as he maybe should have right so that's why he's at 50% fault as well however by that point of the turn he couldn't see bagnah and so he didn't roll off he was going for it so it's an unfortunate accident and I would say that each writer carries carries some blame but in my opinion bagnaia carries a little bit more blame because he was the one going for the overtake and he has the most to lose and we saw him tangle with Mark margz and end up on the ground earlier in the year he's lost very important points he would have had a easy third place at Oregon and that's points he needed in his Chase with Martin if he had been a little bit more careful so what do you you think who's at fault Alex or bagnah let us know in the comments and join us again next time on hot takes the
